This discussion is meant to cover the basics. While I have limited knowledge, I will be sure to edit this post in the future as new information is available to me. What Are Chakras and How Do They Work?: The physical nerves in our bodies utilize energy to function and the energy created by functioning nerves cast off excess energy which can be viewed as our "aura." Nerve bundles create concentrated energy and are recognized as chakras. Most are familiar with the 7 major chakras created by the 7 major nerve centers in the body. But there are also numerous minor chakras that most are unaware of. Aura Function: Normal aura function is an output of energy that can be used to determine a number of things about us, the most basic of which is our current mood. Colors in an aura represent specific types of energy we are currently puting out. Emotional energy is powerful and can dictate the colors in our aura. Your aura can also indicate physical problems, though. While emotional output tends to be dominant, serious physical problems can disrupt energy output and appear as grey spots or (more rarely) even black spots. The physical and energy bodies are closely linked in this way and physical or emotional problems can often lead to energy problems in other ways. Alternately, blocked or weak chakras can lead to physical problems or aggravate existing ones. Blocked or Malfunctioning Chakras: Blocked or weak chakras can cause a cascade effect that weakens the functioning of other chakras. Speaking strictly of the major chakras, when a lower chakra is either blocked or weak for whatever reason it can not only cause physical symptoms in the connected parts of the body but can also weaken the functioning of upper chakras. So if you're working on third eye function (upper chakra) but one of your lower chakras is blocked or weakened, you need to address the lower chakra first. How Can I Tell Which Chakra Needs Work?: One exercise for feeling out the function of your chakras to determine where the problem is involves meditating and focusing visually on each chakra one at a time. You attempt to view the chakra in your mind's eye to determine if it is functioning properly, starting with the root chakra. If you're unfamiliar with the chakra system or have trouble sensing this yourself, you can either seek the help of a professional or opt to work on clearing, activating and strengthening all of them. Either way, you can't go wrong. Working on all the chakras is always a healthy option and having a professional work on them is good too. But you will still want to work on learning to sense where a problem is in your own energy system. So practice is recommended. Clearing Blockages: As with everything energy-related, visualization is key. So if you're not confident with your ability to visualize, I highly recommend browsing the exercises provided in the meditation section. Some of them are very good for strengthening visualization abilities. Clearing blocked chakras when you can't "see" which one is blocked is a bit of a guessing game. But when performed regularly, this technique should be effective enough. As with most chakra work, you want to start with the root chakra. Don't be ashamed to reference a chart before beginning any work on yourself. For this exercise, energy color is only important for directing your attention to each chakra. Energy FLOW is what is most important. You can lie down if you like or sit up...whatever position you're most comfortable with is fine for this exercise as long as your back is straight. This will align your chakras physically. What you want to do is visualize each chakra starting with your root chakra working your way up and focus on breaking up any dark energy that might be blocking them. It's helpful to know the associated color for each chakra, but with practice you will become more familiar with both color and location for each. Starting with the root chakra (red one located at the base of the spine), focus on each of the seven major chakras visualizing any dark energy buildup blocking energy flow. Visualize this energy as a sort of dark plaque...imagining this dark plaque breaking up and falling away...visualize energy flowing through the chakra freely. Do this for each chakra from the root to the crown, visualizing the dark plaque breaking up and away until you can visualize energy flowing freely from root to crown. Balancing and Healing Chakras: Once you've removed blockages, it's important to balance and heal the chakras to help restore natural function. One simple way to do this is to visualize white light or positive energy from the universe flowing down through the crown chakra to the root. Removing blockages is important but may also leave a void that needs to be filled. Filling this void with positive energy helps to strengthen function and avoid leaving a weakness that can become filled again by negativity. Visualize this energy flowing down through the chakras and filling you up from your root to crown as a glass being filled with water. Activating the Chakras: Activating the chakras is an exercise all it's own that is important to healthy function. Even after removing blockages and healing the chakras, there may still be some that aren't as active as they could be. For this exercise, you will need to be familiar with energy colors associated with each chakra. Beginning again with the root chakra, you will focus on each individually. As you focus on each chakra, visualize the chakra glowing with energy of the appropriate color and opening as a flower (like a lotus) and then the petals turning in opposite directions (like gears spinning) until you can visualize it glowing brightly and spinning freely. If you have trouble with the visualization, feel free to modify it to whatever feels most natural to you. Do this with each chakra in this order: Root - red - base of spine Sacral - orange - just below naval Solar Plexus - yellow - base of diaphram Heart - green - center of chest Throat - blue - throat Third eye - purple - between brows Crown - white - top of head Practice Makes Perfect: With practice you will not only improve in your ability to visualize properly, will also perfect the function of your chakras. By developing healthy function in all of your chakras, you will improve the function of the upper chakras and thereby improve your ability to develop your other senses...which means seeing and hearing your spirits better. Each chakra's function depends on healthy function of the chakras below it. So making chakra function a regular part of routine will go a long way to opening your third eye. |
