House Stark “When the cold winds rise and the shadow comes, who is left to hold the realm of men? The joys of life are born from our toil, and ever shall we battle on for the coming dawn. Winter is Coming – but we shall stand in its path.” The warm embrace of the basking sun takes its leave, as the northern winds sweep their claim over the snowy earth. The bloodstained earth is hidden beneath a blanket of crystal frost, and no lone wolf can withstand the cold's clasping maw. It grips the very soul, rending and tearing until nothing is left but bitter stone and hardy rock. Though men are born soft, the fierce hearts of the North are as strong as steel. White Harbor serves as the main hub of the North, although the Starks place their seat in the fortress of Winterfell. The land is vast, larger than all the other six Kingdoms grouped together – but it is sparse, and much of the territory is useless for agriculture. The few serfs who live on the land tend to gravitate around White Harbor, or Winterfell – both cities are constructed upon hot springs, which warm the surrounding terrain and make it suitable for farming. The War of Black and White is still in living memory; the vicious conflict between the grief-stricken Torrhen and the invading Harren the Black lasted for five years, and the taste of blood still lingers in the mouths of some. Though the Northerners secured a victory, they are in anguish over the loss of their Matriarch – Queen Loyma. Torrhen spent the three years following the war in reclusion, shattered and in mourning. Sans leadership, many of the Lords have taken to expanding their holdings at the expense of others; the rich often purchased the loyalty of the bannermen who served poorer masters. Maren Karstark, Lord of Karhold, is rumoured to be planning a capitulation. ![]() Northern fighters have always held their own, traditional style of warfare. Despite common myth likening them to the axe-wielding Ironborn, Stark bannermen often hold a simple longsword as their weapon of choice. The majority of Northerners possess a significant degree of endurance, and those who do not rarely live to see adulthood; they are renowned for the strength to sustain a brawl for far longer than the average southron. Although they may be lacking in technique or finesse, such is countered by a hefty weighting of savagery, strength and courage. One excellent example of such is the Battle of Moat Cailin, during the War of Black and White. With less than seven hundred soldiers, Lord Umber held back a retaliation from the Riverlanders that numbered at two thousand. In a pitched engagement, the North will almost always emerge the victor. However, their harsh climate makes for significantly poor cavalry – in some cases, Lords and Knights prefer to simply fight on foot rather than risk their life on an inadequate steed. The Starks fight best on their home turf. The bitter winds of the North will destroy any southron host, given time – only the hardiest of souls can brave the cruel air beyond the Riverlands. They also fight well on foreign soil, but their lack of ability to adapt to southern tactics (such as the Gardener Chevaliers) could lead to disaster. White Harbor possesses a minor selection of trading vessels, but they mostly serve as supply transports to Eastwatch – the North is the most active sponsor of the Night's Watch. Statistics: The Army of Winterfell: 6,000 Infantry 1,500 Bowmen 1,500 Light Cavalry Household Knights (Northern Lords usually have a count of roughly 6 Knights pledged to their service, depending on wealth.) The Army of White Harbor: 1,000 Infantry 500 Bowmen 500 Light Cavalry Total Combined Forces: 7,000 Infantry 2,000 Bowmen 2,000 Light Cavalry 11,000 Total Soldiers WEALTH: National: Very Low Serfs: Very Low Knights: Medium Lords: Medium King: High This thread will be updated with any grand announcements for your faction. It is also the thread in which to roleplay with other members of your faction.
