Share your local or international old sayings here. If they are not self explanatory how did they come into being?

In the past people believed that bees flew in a straight line to their hive. So if you made a bee line for something you went straight for it.

I just looked it up, but can't find where it originated from. Just the meaning "short of stature". I wonder which clever person first thought it up.
