When we were children we used to wake up on Christmas Morning with a pillow case, stuffed with presents, at the bottom of our beds. Money was scarce and when I look back I wonder how they managed to do it. At the very bottom of the pillow case was nuts and tangerines. Above those was a childs annual book. Mine was usually Rupert the Bear and my brothers the Beano. Above that was a stuffed animal that my mother used to make. Next was a chocolate selection box, usually Nestles or Cadburys. Then came a colouring book, a puzzle book, a small box of water paints and an activity book. One year I had a whip and top, another a skipping rope. My brother always got cars and a mechano set. Simple toys that we treasured over the years and got so many hours of enjoyment from. Now its lap tops xboxes etc. I'm glad we used to get the things we did. Can your remember what you used to get as a small child? Edited by Petra, Dec 9 2012, 08:47 AM.

I remember the year I was ten. I got mitts, earmuffs, a box of three soaps and my first hardcover book called Beautiful Joe. It was the story of a beloved pet dog. That book started me on a lifelong love of reading. We always got candy and an orange. Christmas back then was a peaceful time without all the commercialization. |

I think we were so luck to have been born on that era. Poor maybe, but happy and contented. We all used to get a book, sweets, and a new outfit. |
