A Long Overdue Reunion (Lash only)

The Mall as a whole was bustling as usual, full with people almost everywhere one went. Almost everywhere, because one place in particular was pretty much empty, and that was the Event Stage. It was only natural; after all, there were no important events going on at the time.

But soon, the place was going to be the stage of something very important. Maybe not so important in the grand scheme of things, and to some, it wouldn't be important at all. It would, however, be important to a certain pair of individuals who, not coincidentally, happened to be the only ones in the Event Stage.

The first of them was a young man with shoulder-length black hair, wearing a black t-shirt, black khakki pants and a pair of black shoes, as well as a black Hunter VG. The second of them was a Wizard with the same short height, low weight, pale skin and appearance as the young man's. Even the clothes they wore were the same. The only thing that set them apart was the expression upon each other's face, the man's being sullen while the Wizard wore a mask of neutrality.

It had been a long time since the man, Juan, had stepped foot outside of his house, and much longer since he last entered a mall. Yet today he had done both, all thanks to the persistance of his Wizard partner, Ulukay.

"So what are we doing here?" The human asked, his head turned down to the ground while he looked to the Wizard with the corner of his left eye. Ulukay merely shrugged and crossed his arms, eyes staring forwards as he replied.

"We are here to meet someone."

"You said that already. But who are we meeting?"

"Wait and see."

Juan sighed and shook his head in frustration. "I don't get why you're being so cryptic. Why can't you be straightforward and tell me who we're supposed to meet?"

Why? That was a good question. After all, the reason why Ulukay had his partner go there was to meet with Mac, the first Brother he ever had. Mac had called out to them in the Message Boards, and exchanged a couple of e-mails with the Wizard, though Juan was unaware of that. And while the meeting was scheduled to be at that Stage and at that time, there was always the possibility of Mac not showing up. Thus, Ulukay refrained from telling Juan anything about it so as to not get his hopes up for nothing.

The lack of response from the Wizard elicited another sigh from the human, who simply kept his gaze directed at the ground. It was the first day he left his house since about a month or so ago and there he was, waiting for a a complete stranger for all he knew. There was nothing he could do, though, so he just did as Ulukay told.

Tell me James, have these past few years been just a dream, or has it really been two years since we've last seen action?
Mac. It has been two years. Two years since we made our first BrotherBand, and two years since that concert.
That was a rhetorical question.

Mac was now a little taller and a little bulkier than his last appearance, but it was due to muscle development, not sheer lazyness. Compared to pictures of his younger self, he now had slightly less sparkly eyes, less baby-fat on his face, and generally more mature features than those he had sported during his stint.

We should wave change - after all, he met us when we were wavechanged.
We were also fighting for our lives against a psycopathic teenager. Are you suggesting we should invite trouble along too?

Mac was wearing his normal, every day clothes that had served him well, allowing him to blend into a crowd and yet be prepared for action at the same time: his black sneakers, grey jogging pants and a light blue t-shirt. He was either color-blind or severly deficient in the art of color-coordination, but it was tough to say which was the case. Running a hand through his crew-cut bright blond hair that bordered on flaxen, he muttered a few words to himself as he maneveured his way to the Event Arena. For a guy that was normally anti-social, he was acting quite genial and friendly today.

I see I'm rubbing off on you.

Flanking behind Mac was a scrawny teenager in a slick black jumpsuit and white gloves. His smile was a little fake-looking, due to the fact that he wasn't quite human, but rather, an ensemble of castaway data that was only recently - that is to say, in the past five years - compiled. He still didn't have the trick of normal expressions and tended to overdo things.

This mind to mind conversation can be quite... disorienting. It still beats real interaction.

Almost there. I think I feel something up ahead.

Coming to a halt at the ramp which lead to the event stage, Mac scanned the area with his gray colored eyes, searching for a youthful and strong wave warrior. Disappointed, he proceeded down the ramp and did a double take.

Holy weaker cows, batman! He's changed more than I have.

"Drake Ulukay and Ulukay, I presume?"

Behind him, he could feel James moving, trying to get in front. He brought his foot down to where he thought the Wizard's toes would be and was rewarded with a kick to the back of his shins.

Apparently, whoever they were supposed to meet had just arrived, as Juan heard a male voice call out to them. What he found strange, however, was that the person referred to him by his Wave Conversion's name. It was pretty strange to say the least.

"The name's Juan..." The young man begun to say, but as he raised his head to look at whoever had arrived, his words drifted off. Juan narrowed his eyes at the teenage boy in front of him. Did he know this person? They surely knew him and his Wizard, that's for sure. But there was something very familiar to the boy, as if it were somebody he could not afford to forget.

Crew-cut blond hair, height about 10cm above his own, familiar face and eyes - though for some reason, he remembered those eyes being blue instead of grey - and somebody who knew him only by his Wave Conversion. Or at least, someone who insisted to refer to him by that.

Then it hit him. His mind finally made the connection. Juan's black eyes widened and his mouth fell, his face the definition of pure disbelief. He took a single step back, trying to gather his wits to from a coherent sentence, but finding himself unable to do so. The black-haired youth slowly turned his head towards Ulukay, who simply stared back at him and nodded, answering a question that didn't need to be asked.

Juan turned his head back to the pair before him. Finally he said something, his mouth muttering out a single word, just loud enough to be audible.

"Mac?"

"The name's Juan..."
That's what I was going to tell you.

Mac scanned over Juan's body, somewhat in disbelief that the mighty wave warrior was a scrawny young man; after all, when Mac was wave-changed, the only thing that changed was his clothing and eye color. James managed to squeeze past Mac, nudging him as he ambled past.

"Mac?"

Mac's face took on a boyish grin at the recognition, his eyes dancing. "In the flesh. I hope I haven't changed too much in my abscence." Taking a step forward, he continued "It's a long story, and one that I wouldn't burden my Brother with so soon."

James glanced at Ulukay, his eyes winking - something that did not come natural, but a technique he had developed after hanging around with Mac for some time.

Juan couldn't believe it. Even after the confirmation, he simply couldn't believe it. One of his three Brothers, and his very first one too, who hadn't contacted him in two years, was standing mere inches away from him.

It had been a few months since his visit to the Satellite Admins, where Juan let out his depressions and worries, mostly caused because the loss of contact with his friends and Brothers. The words of wisdom they had left him with were very good and inspiring, but those words alone weren't enough to completely release the black-haired man from his state of worry.

But this? His first Brother right in front of him? The very sight was enough to bring relief to Juan's troubled heart.

Mac stepped closer to him, and the blond boy had barely finished speaking before Juan thrust himself forward, arms spread wide, and embraced his Brother in a hug. It wasn't a very tight hug, considering the young man's lack of strength, but he wasn't intending to let go any time soon. No words left his mouth as he simply closed his eyes, appreaciating the moment.

To Ulukay, it was a very pretty sight. The warm touch that came from human contact was indeed a wonderful feeling, one he didn't experience much with Juan, but which he did with one of his former partners. The image of a pair of blue eyes staring at him from behind circle-shaped glasses came to his mind, and he immediately averted his sight from the hugging Brothers, turning his head in the direction of a random convenience store.

The Wizard didn't even register James' blink, too absorbed in his own thoughts. Thoughts of regret. Thoughts of guilt. His mask, however, was strong, and showed nothing that could indicate that, instead displaying the usual neutral expression Ulukay liked to wear so much.

Oof!

Mac usually wasn't good with social interaction, and today was no exception. Not knowing what to say or do as Juan smothered him in an embrace, he remained silent. It seemed that today he was playing the big brother or a mentor figure, a rock of stability in a time of weakness. Mac was okay with that; he only wished he knew what to say.

He returned the embrace with outstretched arms of his own, reaching behind to comfort his Brother.

James could only but gape at the warmth and stability that Mac was exuding; of all his years with the lad, he had never known him to be the out-going, kindly type. Mac had apparently changed more than he had thought.

How long had it been since Juan had last hugged someone? He couldn't remember. Ulukay wasn't exactly fond of human contact, or at least that's what the Wizard insisted on saying. Regardless, the contact and the warmth form his Brother were very comforting and relaxing.

Then Juan opened his eyes and realized what he had just done. With a low yelp, he quickly broke off the embrace and backed away a bit from Mac.

"Ah, sorry! I didn't mean to just do something like that out of nowhere!" The black-haired youth blurted out, his face flushed with embarassment. Like his partner, Juan quickly averted his gaze from Mac so that his Brother wouldn't see the expression on his face and scratched the back of his head nervously. "I hope that wasn't too uncomfortable... Sorry again."

He shook his head from side to side vigorusly, then moved his right hand over his face in a wiping motion, as if the embarassment was just some liquid that he could remove with a towel of some sort. It worked well enough though, since when Juan turned back to Mac, the embarassment was no longer on his face. Instead, his eyes were looking left and right, and his voice faltered a bit as he spoke.

"S-so. How've you been? A-and what do you wanna do? D-Do you wanna talk or-"

"One question at a time, Juan." Ulukay interrupted, snapping out of his daze for but a moment to help his flustered partner. The young man sighed and shook his head again, making the same wiping motion over his face.

"Right, right. Sorry."

Mac had never handled a situation like this ever before in his life; he certainly didn't know what to say when his Brother, Juan, backed away looking reddened. He didn't have to say anything, though, because Juan was speaking fast enough to be a telemarketer... or maybe a politician.

Juan turned away, stammering apologies that even a politician couldn't manage to say at that speed. He turned back, although he averted his eyes.

"It's a learning experience for Mac."

Mac shifted his focus from Juan to Ulukay and back, trying to think of a line. Off the cuff, he spouted "Two years is a long time - I'm doing okay, no thanks to the crazy teen we fought up in space. I'm not good with making plans, so what happens next is up to you."

James could only hope that Mac's ineptness wouldn't put even more pressure on his poor Brother.

"It's nice to hear you're doing well." Juan said, flashing a weak smile to his Brother. "As for me, I'm sure Ulukay's told you I haven't been at my best. And well, I guess my mess of an attitude right now tells that too. But, seeing you makes things better. Much better."

The smile etched upon the young man's face grew wide at that point, and he looked straight into Mac's eyes as he said those words. Ulukay had turned towards his partner at the moment, and was pleased to see a genuine expression of happiness upon his face. Not that the Wizard's face showed such a thing.

Having caught the tail end of what Mac had said, Ulukay decided to speak up. "If I may interrupt you two again? Mac, you mentioned something about wanting to spar in the e-mails. Perhaps now that you have gotten reacquainted to each other, you could do that."

The proposal made Juan hesitate for a moment. He had avoided fights for quite some time, both casual ones and serious one. The former usually ended with him making friends that he had yet to see again, whereas the latter tended to end badly for him. Yet the man knew fighting was unavoidable, as long as he held the power of the Admins. It would be much better for him to have a practice spar with his Brother to sharpen up his skills than to be forced into a serious battle situation, where failure was unaffordable, but the chances of him failing were high.

Besides, it was request from his Brother - his very first Brother, who admitedly he didn't know all too well. This would be a perfect chance to know Mac better. And the boy's very presence told Juan there was a very real possibility of him meeting his other Brothers and friends someday, when he least expected.

"If you really want a battle, Mac," The black-haired man's smile turned to a confident grin, as Juan flashed the blond boy a thumbs-up. "then I'll be happy to provide."

"If you feel you're up to it, I'm ready, Drake Ulukay."

Mac's skin turned a translucent blue as he began the wave change process. From head down, his features changed ever so slightly, the skin returning to its natural tone as the wave went towards his feet. His eyes went from steel gray to an azure blue, his face became older looking, the little bit of "baby fat" he still had around his gut disappeared. Muscles became more pronounced, and his clothing suddenly was replaced by a black jumpsuit. His hands now sported white gloves with navi marks. The wave halted at the feet and dissipiated.

"Correction: now I'm ready."

Juan and Ulukay stared into each other's eyes and nodded, before the Wizard became a small orb of darkness and entered the young man's body. Juan had closed his eyes during the process, his muscles doubling in size and his hair becoming a light purple and increasing in length before stopping just past his back. And even while his whole being was undergoing the transformation, there was another thing overflowing him; a feeling so alien, yet so familiar at the same time.

'This feeling, this rush... is this the lust for battle?'

A faint purple aura appeared around his form, and the Wave Warrior opened his eyes at last, revealing them to now be red. He rose his right arm to his side, and in a second a black, thick sword appeared in his hand. He brought the blade up to his face and stared at it for a while. Holding his loyal blade like that, and feeling its weight, it was like everything was coming back to Juan - all those fights, all those experiences, all those fun times, and all those traumas. He had seen it all, and that very blade, the Martyr Blade, had been his companion through all those moments. Just the feeling of the weapon in his hands was enough for him to remember how to wield it properly, even though it had been months since his last battle.

"Enetering a battle after so much time away from the battlefield... it is an interesting feeling for sure." Ulukay said, mentally communicating with his partner through the link they shared.

"Yeah. I'm a bit rusty, so this should be a good experience for me to get back on the game. And I guess it will be good for Mac, too. Anyway, let's just have fun."

Juan - or rather, Drake Ulukay - lowered the blade and turned his attention away from it and onto his Brother, his red eyes shining for a moment as they fell upon Mac's form. A transparent, blue barrier appeared around the purple-haired Wave Warrior, while he lifted his free left hand and made a gesture to Mac, daring for him to come.

"First move's yours, Mac."

Sheee-oooooot! The BB card favorites - he's got the Chaos Equals, too!

"Roger."

Mac raised a gloved hand, pointing his finger out as his opponent, waving it as if to say: "Nu-uh". But there was more to the motion than met the eye; Mac wasn't idly taunting, but actively attack at a rather close enough range. With a near silent hiss, a small, round paintball-like orb blasted from the tip, ripping through the air towards his opponent.

Sticking close to your opponent is a bad idea when you lack weapons, and Mac understood this concept well enough. Rolling backwards to avoid a possible return attack, and also to put distance between him and Drake, he landed adeptly and upright, this time with a knife in hand.

Drake's eyes widened when he saw the orb coming his way. Unsure of what to do, he rose his left hand in front of him instinctively. The orb crashed against his barrier, which fizzled for a moment before it faded from existence.

"That attack was painfully straightforward, Juan. It was so easy to avoid, yet you did nothing. That was a very amateurish mistake."

"Yeah, I know. Like I said, I'm a bit rusty. It's going to take a while before I get used to this fighting thing again. Either way, I'm pumped for this, and I'm not letting this excitement go to waste."

"Hm. Do you want me to send you cards now?"

"Not yet. Let's see what our Brother is capable of first."

Lowering his hand, Drake flashed his Brother a smile, sliding his right foot back and bending his body forward.

"My turn."

No sooner had he said that, he started running, his Martyr Blade to his side and low, coming close to touching the ground. Once the Wave Warrior had closed the distance between himself and his sparring partner, he brought the blade up in a horizontal slash from right to left aimed at Mac's head. After that slash was finished, he swung the sword horizontally again, this time from left to right aimed at his Brother's chest.

The bullet had done it's job, having removed the barrier, it disappeared. While his opponent was responding, Mac was lining up his next set of moves. Follow up with the dirk or should I go with a card? His answer wasn't long in coming; Drake was on his way with a crazily fat black blade, overkill in Mac's opinion. A simple sword would have sufficed and been much more elegant.

The sword came up and Mac ducked down to avoid losing his head to a golfing chop, but he didn't have a response to the slice aimed at his torso. He didn't need one; a firm believer in quid pro quo, he had his oversized knife in hand when the chop was coming. With a flick of the wrist, aiming the blade for his opponent's midsection, he released the blade, letting it fly through the air toward his Brother. As he did so, that black blade connected, tearing a slight gash in his jumpsuit and leaving a trail of blood - or what looked like blood - in it's wake. It wasn't a pleasant sensation, and Mac wasn't keen on repeating it.

Drake wasn't expecting the knife. He never even knew his Brother used a knife. It was always good to find out new things about Mac, that was for sure. What was not good was the feeling of the dirk embedding itself into his flash. The purple-haired youth winced, his eyes twitching and his body recoiling a bit.

"Ouch... since when does he use this thing?"

"It has been two years, Juan, of course he will have some trick up his sleeve. But you should have seen that coming pretty easily too. He had that knife in his hand even before you rushed towards him. I am assuming you were not paying attention."

"I told you I'm rusty."

"And you are using that as an excuse to fight poorly?"

"No, but it's only natural that I'm going to fight poorly when I'm out of shape."

"But the mistakes you are making are pretty fatal, even for someone rusty."

"Give me a break, Ulukay. I'm trying to have fun here."

"You yourself said this was going to be an opportunity to re-learn how to fight. You are not going to learn anything if you just ignore any mistake you do. So I will continue to annoy you until you actually learn."

"Why are you being so serious?"

"All fights are serious, no matter what their purpose is. If you are not going to be serious, then why fight at all? You are only insulting me, you, and Mac."

Juan's mind was silent for a moment, as he let Ulukay's words sink in. His Wizard was right in every way, and he could not believe he didn't see it before. Had it really been so long since his last fight that he forgot the true spirit of fighting? Or maybe it was because his last battles weren't very fun for him, and his nearly desperate attempt to have fun with his Brother blinded him? His current attitude was an insult to Ulukay because he was shrugging off someone who was actually trying to help; it was an insult to himself, because he knew he was better than that; and most of all, it was an insult to Mac, because nobody likes fighting someone who isn't at their best.

To give it one's all, no matter what - that was the true spirit of fighting. Even in his previous fights, when he would sometimes neglect to use his most powerful cards, even when he was training Haseo, even when he met May, he never took a battle lightly, and always gave it his best. Why should he do anything but that now? The lust for battle, it was being pumped into his veins with every second. And to satisfy that, he needed to give his Brother a real fight.

"You're right, Ulukay. Sorry."

"No need for apologies. Just take this seriously, pay attention, and heed my advice."

"Roger!"

The mental argument between human and Wizard, as well as the brief time Juan had spent reflecting gave Mac an ample window of opportunity to either strike or back away. Either way, trying to follow up would be a very bad idea, so Drake jumped backwards to put some distance between them. As he landed and his feet skid to a halt, the Wave Warrior looked at the gap between them, which was about a meter long, before bringing his Martyr Blade up. His aura flared up, as dark energy was being pumped into the weapon.

And if Mac looked at Drake's face, he would no longer find a smile, but a sharp stare directed into his eyes instead.

Ever since that fateful day in Deep Space, Mac had begun a process of continual change, ever morphing his attacks just like water can go from calm to wavy in an instant. As so in the past, so in the now; Mac gave a friendly wave, a wide grin on his face, with his left hand - except that if somebody had looked close enough, they would have seen that he no longer had a glove, but a gauntlet. This occurred while his opponent delayed, allowing him a chance to open up with the initiative. Bubbles were released, one drifting towards the left of Drake, one to the right, and one right at him.

Of course, it's a good idea to follow up one attack with another, and that's just what Mac did. His gaunlet was gone, replace by a rather buster-like pipe where his left hand had been, which he quickly aimed at his Brother and fired. Bubbling and then electrifying was a classic technique, one that anybody could perform these days.

Now you see it, now you don't. The gun was gone and his hand was back, this time with a sword in hand. He stepped forward, slashing towards his hopefully paralyzed opponent with the blade with a murderous look in his eyes and an unreadable expression on his face.

Apparently Mac had changed more in two years than he had thought.

OOC: I guess you missed the note I left you at the C-Box, but your health should be at 95%. You only took one hit from the Martyr Slash, which deals only Moderate damage. And keep in mind for the future that status effects can't stack upon each other.

On another note, time warps ahoy. Can't say I didn't expect this to happen, but I'll make it work.
Like a true ninja and a smart fighter, Mac took advantage of the opening provided by Juan's distraction - who wouldn't, after all - and released a bubble his way. The dark Wave Warrior was encased by the bubble, though he barely noticed it, as he was still absorbed in his thoughts at that moment.

The electrified shot pierced through the bubble and struck Drake, sending a shock to his systems, literally. The shot's paralyzing properties were lost, however, due to the work of the mysterious powers that governed the universe. And by that time, Juan had snapped from his daze already, and he kept true to his jump backwards, just in time to get out of the way of the Tidal Edge's slash.

His actions remained the same as they would have been had he not been assaulted; skid to a halt, briefly look at the meter-long gap between them, then charge energy into his blade. It didn't take long for the weapon to finish charging, and when it did, Drake grabbed the hilt with both hands before swinging the Martyr Blade in front of him, sending out a black, three-meter wide sonicboom zooming his Brother's way.

No sooner had he launched the sonicboom, the blade vanished from his hands. His aura flared up and became red for a moment, as the purple-haired youth pumped his own blood into his next attacks. He thrust his left palm forwards, firing off a small black projectile at Mac, before he raised his other hand and shot out another similar projectile towards his Brother.

Even as he performed his counter-attack, though, Drake felt the knife sticking out of his chest. When he was done attacking, he removed the dirk from his body and looked at it for a brief moment, before he let it fall to the floor, just by his feet. He raised his left foot forward and quickly brought it back, hitting the weapon with the back of his feet and sending it sliding back until it came to a halt about a meter and a half away. Most weapons could be dismissed and summoned back at will. The fact that the knife was still in his body even after all those hits he took told Drake that his Brother's dirk wasn't so easily retrievable.

Mac had burned through a huge part of his arsenal already, and with Drake standing in the way of his knife, the blond boy was in a disadvantage in Juan's point of view. Which meant now was the perfect moment for-

The black wave approached him at mach speed; it also disintegrated on colliding with a faint blue, circular haze that surrounded Mac, leaving nothing behind to say that the wave had ever existed. The blade was gone from his opponent's hands, and his opponent's palms were forwards.

Not a good sign for Mac - when Mac had thrust his palm out, that meant somebody was in for a soaking. Now that his Brother had stuck his hand out, he could only assume it meant the same. At least his barrier still held; Mac advanced as the attack merely pinged off, his shield going offline. The second attack caught him in the right arm, clipping him, leaving a bruise behind.

"Hope you're not fond of fainting."

Counter-attacking time; his opponent was open, it was time to strike. Raising his right hand as if to say "Halt", Mac allowed a tiny, round orb to blast from his finger towards his brother. Following the attack up, he attempted to slash at his Brother's torso, from left to right in an arc that would leave his left forearm over top of his right bicep.

OOC: Remember to adjust your health when you get hit. You should be at 90% since you took the last attack.
Drake may have been busy kicking Mac's weapon back, but he hadn't taken his eyes off his Brother. So when he saw the hand being raised at him again, he ducked, letting the orb go over his head and hit the ground behind him. Expecting a follow up from the aquatic blade in Mac's left arm, the dark Wave Warrior rolled to his Brother's right, just as a slash from the Tidal Edge sliced through his previous location.

He rose up to his feet, his Martyr Blade reappearing as he grasped it with both hands, and his aura flaring up as dark energy was being pumped into the weapon again. Once it was charged, Drake swung his signature weapon into the air once more, and once more the wide sonicboom went zooming towards Mac. But his purple aura never stopped shining, as more dark energy was pumped into the blade even after the sonicboom was released.

'He has easy access to the knife now that I'm no longer in his way,' Juan thought to himself. 'but if he goes there to retrieve it, he's going to be vulnerable and let up on his continued attack. He also burned through one of his defenses just now, and he should be down to that Tidal Edge and two other cards only. That sword must be one of his most powerful weapons right now, since it's the only card he is using constantly. But I should have plenty of ways to defend against that.'

"Don't fall asleep like you did in space."

Mac's eyes narrowed when he saw Drake's blade make a second appearance. The first time, it had been merely annoying. Now, it was starting to get... dreadfully monotonous. Adjusting his position, he relaxed his sword arm, letting it hang to his side, leaving the blade to be propped up against the ground. Slash or boom, Mac quickly equipped a small, three-foot diameter buckler that was a reflective bright yellow in color. Step forward, his opponent swung the blade, letting rip that blasted wave again.

"You really like that, don't you?"

Mac twisted his body into a fencing position, extending his arm to protect himself from the boom. The buckler caught the wave, letting it dissipiate in a small fog, now harmless. The shield now had no function; Mac stepped forward, switching to a normal standing stance, gripping the TidalEdge with two hands and swung in a horizontal slice aimed this time at the abdomen, whistling from left to right with murderous intent. Completing the swing, he released the blade with his left, allowing him to again blast his aqueous attack from his finger towards his opponent's torso.
