The planet Nautila sat alone in its system, a solitary blue sapphire slowly circling a star. There were no signs of advanced technology, which was not surprising as less than 5% of the planet was land. The only signs of civilization were some small human settlements on the small island chains across the planet. These were little more than small fishing villages with only the most primitive of tools. Ishtali sat on the Pel'tak of the Daphne, the newest Dryalus Ha'tak of the Druid fleet. A subspace message had been received from this planet, but there was no sign of anything that could have possibly sent it. "Scan the planet again, quickly," Ishtali commanded, not wanting to stay if this was a trap. The Goa'uld scanned the planet again, "The scans are negative. Nothing here could have sent the signal." Ishtali sighed, "Very well, prepare for hyperspace. We're leaving." The Goa'uld nodded, returning to his console. However, he turned around immediately. "My Lady, we are receiving another signal. Its from the planet." "What?" Ishtali exclaimed, "Can you find the source?" "I cannot find its origin more specifically than somewhere on the planet," was the reply.
Ishtali read the message. "Very well, land the ship." "My Lady, these coordinates are in the middle of the ocean, there is no landing zone there." Ishtali looked at the console, and there was nothing but open ocean. As she looked at the screen, a small dot appeared in the middle of the ocean. "It appears that they have made a landing zone. I do not trust this Goa'uld, but we need allies." The Daphne entered the planet's atmosphere, and descended towards the landing zone. The ship flew over the blue oceans towards a solitary grey metal landing pad, just barely big enough for the ship to land on. As soon as the Ha'tak landed, shield formed a dome over the platform, and it began to descend into the sea. The Daphne slowly descended towards the ocean's bottom, towards a colossal palace built into the side of a coral reef. When the platform stopped its descent, a covered glass walkway was extended through the shield. Ishtali left the Daphne with two other Druids, and walked towards the walkway. They were met as soon as they reached the entrance by three Goa'uld clad in dark blue robes, silver pauldrons covering their shoulders, and silver helmets decorated with sea serpents on their heads. The Goa'uld bowed slightly, the middle one saying, "Welcome to Triton, the capital city of Nautila." Ishtali returned their bow, "I am Lady Ishtali, Councilor of the Druid Empire. We were quite surprised to receive Lord Pontus' message, and we are eager to meet with him." "Of course, if you would follow us this way, he awaits you in his throne room," was the reply. They turned, and walked down the walkway towards the palace. As they walked, Ishtali marveled at the clear blue water around her that teemed with life. She stopped briefly when she caught a glimpse of a dark shape out of the corner of her eye. She turned, and stood slightly surprised and puzzled. A symbiote floated just a few feet away from her face, staring at her. It was quickly joined by many more, emerging from within the reef. "You will find Lord Pontus has adopted many things that are... non-traditional for most Goa'uld. But then, I hear that the Druids have also done this." Ishtali nodded, and continued to follow them towards the palace, which she quickly realized was more than just a palace once she drew near to it. It went much deeper than she had originally realized, its total size was that of a large city. They walked into the city through a massive gate built of coral. Once entering, they were met with massive open city square whose roof was made of glass, allowing the filtered light of the sun to enter. They were led through the courtyard towards the palace and into the throne room. The throne room was both simple and elegant at the same time. It was a clear dome, with a raised dais in the middle upon which sat a coral throne. Pontus sat on his throne, and stood as Ishtali entered. "Welcome to Triton, Lady Ishtali," he said, walking towards them, "I am Lord Pontus, ruler of Nautila." He extended his hand towards Ishtali, who took it hesitantly. "I see you are hesitant of my host. Perhaps you have never before met an Ohne," Pontus said. "You are correct, my Lord. I have heard of the Ohne, but never before have I met one," Ishtali replied. "Well, you may if you stay long enough. This planet has many villages filled with Ohne, as well as human villages. I took some of from Belus many hundred of years ago when he attacked their planet, and have since had them reproduce into a sufficient sized population." Pontus ascended back to his throne and sat down. "Now, as to the business at hand. I have not sent my forces into the galaxy in a long time, but I have always listened to what is happening outside of my domain. And I must say that the Druids have intrigued me. I had heard of them before, but now that you have returned, I find many similarities between our two empires. When I took to the oceans, we lost the need for Jaffa as our Symbiotes would mature in the oceans, and we had enough primitive humans and Ohne to use for hosts. We have been living as a society of exclusively Goa'uld for many years now, and I thought we were alone in this. However now I find that the Druids have returned." "Lord Pontus, if you are seeking a place within the Druid Empire, you are more than welcome to join with us." Ishtali said. Pontus laughed slightly, "No, my Lady, I do not seek to become some under Lord of the great Selvans. The Druids are not an empire, they are an ideology, one that the Triton Empire also holds to. We seek an entrance into the Druids as our own empire. Just as the System Lords are separate empires with the same ideology, so too I seek to be a Druid among many Druid Lords." Ishtali had been escorted from the throne room to a private room, where she had sent a message to Selvans containing Pontus' offer. Ishtali read the response from Selvans, stood up, and walked to the door. She was met by two Ohne Goa'uld, who escorted her back to Pontus. Ishtali approached Pontus and knelt in front of him. "I have just received word from Lord Selvans. He has considered your proposal, and has decided to accept it. The Forest Empire and the Nautilus Empire shall unite under the banner of the Druids. Lord Selvans has extended an invitation for you to come to Genesaria, to meet with him and discuss the implications of this new alliance." Pontus nodded. "I am honored, and will prepare to leave immediately." Ishtali was soon on the Daphne, preparing to jump into hyperspace. Soon, Pontus' Ha'tak broke the planet's atmosphere and formed up with the Daphne. "Transmit them the hyperspace coordinates," Ishtali commanded. Once it was done, the ships entered hyperspace together, bound for Genesaria. |
