~:}Roleplaying HandBook{:~ Before we start, some of you may be asking, "What is a RolePlay?" Roleplaying is when either two people, or a group of people get together and make a story. You are playing a Role in something, hence the term Roleplaying. I've always said this, but Roleplaying is like writing a book that everyone can join. But woah! Slow down there people. Just because you it is like a book, doesn't mean it has the exact same rules as one. Well... it sort of does, but Roleplaying also has its own rules. As a veteran RPer I'd like to explain the Do's and Don'ts of Roleplaying. I will also talk about a few tips, important facts and whatever else I can think of. ----------------------------------------------------- {Do's and Don'ts} Rule 1: Do not GodMod! There is a reason why it sounds like God Mode. GodMod is basically a person being invisible, super powerful, killing everyone, doing everything, is a god and so much. People enjoy Fair Characters, so please keep it that way. For each of these rules I will give examples of Do's and Don'ts... Enjoy. Don't: Shadow walks up to the final boss, pulls out his sword and slashes once. A massive slash comes out that cuts the entire tower and the boss himself in half. Do: Shadow walks into the final boss room, pulls out his sword and prepares to fight. ----------------------------------------------------- Rule 2: Auto-hitting. More than anything I hate Autohitting. When writing a book this is ok, because you are the only person writing it, but when you are with others Autohitting is a big NO.... Though Autohitting is ok against your own characters. Auto-hitting is when you make the attack connect yourself without allowing the person to dodge or say how much damage was done. Out of anything I hate this the second most. GodMod is the first because it includes this! Now, if I send out a weak enemy that can be killed in one hit (I will usually say) I will allow autohitting. But important people? No..... Don't: Shadow rushes towards his opponent with his sword dragging behind him. Once close Shadow slashes horizontally, slashing his opponent in half. Do: Shadow rushes towards his opponent with his sword dragging behind him. He slashes horizontally, trying to slash his opponent in half. Tip: Wait wait, but they are the same right? No. "Don't" completed the action before giving the other player a chance to attack. "Do" gives the player a chance to dodge or block. Here is a tip; whenever you do an action use words like "Try", "At" or "Towards" Any of those words will work and others that you can think of. Just don't actually complete it unless the person gives you permission. ----------------------------------------------------- Rule 3:Grazing! Do not Graze. What is grazing? If you've played any type of Danmaku game then you may know what Grazing is. If not, then Grazing is when an attack barely hits you, giving you minimal damage, however, it is only called grazing when you do this to just about everything. It is ok to graze some attacks, especially life threatening ones, but don't graze everything! Along with Grazing is infinite dodging, which is when you dodge literally everything. Tip: As I said, I don't mind grazing attacks that could seriously kill you or make you lose a limb. Having super high endurance is ok in this situation, by that I mean getting hit and somehow being still alive. Just... be knocked out or something? Not all Rpers accept this though so.... ----------------------------------------------------- Rule 4: Do not kill of other player's characters without permission. Important plot characters or just characters that belong to other players. Ask them before you do it. Read the Atmosphere as they say. ----------------------------------------------------- Rule 5:Power modding, a small version of God modding, but not nearly as bad. I don't mind this as much, but be careful of it with others. Power modding is when your character just becomes powerful for no reason or does a powerful attack out of no where. Don't: Shadow forms a sphere in front of him that immediately fires out a massive beam of Darkness. Do: Shadow forms a sphere in front of him that slowly begins to glow black, charging up something. [Next turn or a few turns later] Shadow fires out a massive beam of Darkness. Tip: Charging will allow larger attacks. However, if the charging is interrupted the person "may" have to start over. It all depends on the person's character. Basically, you must always give your opponent a chance to strike back or stop what you are doing. ----------------------------------------------------- Rule 6:One Man Army or (personal) Main characters. One man army is when a person can basically defeat anything by themselves. Bosses, Mini bosses, etc. Unless the plot calls for it, don't think you can win! Of course, you can try for added effect and maybe if the plot calls for it the person can win, but make it at least look like the character had a really tough time. [Personal] Main characters are almost the same. I don't like main characters because usually things revolve around them and it doesn't give others a chance to shine. Some RPs I am ok with it, some I am not. However, I do like picking on people to be the current plot point. ----------------------------------------------------- Rule 7: Be Fair! There are some powers that just aren't fair, however they can be done fair. There are also people who like to do completely random things that really serve no purpose for the plot except to troll. *Breathes* Do not be super random! Cows falling out the sky, sitting on a cloud and farting, summoning a nuk- GAH! Sorry... someone in another RP did that and it is forever stuck in my mind. Just... be fair with your powers and be fair to the RP. Randomess is ok, but as I stated before read the Atmosphere. And if you don't know what that means, it means to try and pay attention to the current mood. Tips: Things like Time stop powers can be a little unfair. Be careful with them and such. Don't go stopping time then stabbing someone making it unavoidable.... ----------------------------------------------------- Rule 8:Which brings me to my last rule. Unavoidable! For the love of Yakon(god) do not do attacks that are unavoidable, undodgeable or unblockables! Now, this is ok if you have been charging for a long time, no one stopped you, no one cared and such. This at least gives the other players a chance to stop you or something. Unblockables are ok, but make sure you say that it is or make the attack reasonable to dodge. Don't make all your attacks unblockable as well. Don't: Shadow sends out a large light spear that pierces through the opponent's shield. Do: Shadow sends out a large light spear that, if blocked, will pierce through the opponent's Shield. The spear may be long, but it was slightly slower than all the other spears he had thrown. Tip: See the "Do"? Give small details like that to make it seem more real. If you simply say it is unblockable how is the actual character supposed to know? Keep that in mind that the character isn't you. The Character shouldn't have the same knowledge as you unless they figure it out themselves. <--Secret rule, but is oh so important. ----------------------------------------------------- Nyeko (Neko) Rule Alt: Godmodding: Spoiler: click to toggle I know I probably forgot a few things, but for now this will do. Oh and I created this because I plan on doing this -----> Dimensional CrossRoad If this is in the wrong section then sorry! Please move~ Edited by Shadow Ryusaki, Dec 24 2012, 05:57 PM.
