The little slivers of light shone through the small, dusty window, lighting up the once-pitch black cellar. I hid in the corner, enclosed in my blanket of darkness, toes straining to not touch the sun's pale gleam. The last thing I needed right now was my body exploding into a million pieces. I inhaled deeply, trying to force the stress and shock of today away, saving it to deal with tomorrow, when hopefully things would better. However that minuscule part of me begged to differ, and reminded me that this couldn't possibly be resolved. The cellar was the last place I would've come to escape the world and keep to myself, typically I would've run to my crevice behind the shed, where the fences met. Now, everything was different. Now, I'm a monster. A blood-sucking monster. I found a rag about 3 feet away. I stretched out my arm like never before to get it, and I threw it at the window. I was surprised by my accurate aim. The rag covered the light, and the room became completely dark. Perfect. Relief washed over me as I stood up and brushed myself off. I then roamed the cellar, examining my new surroundings. As my eyes grew more focused and adjusted to the light, I began to see just what was in my 93 year old cellar. Around the dusty, grey room you could make out the usual old things anyone would find in their cellar; boxes, old jars and cobwebs, lots and lots of cobwebs, and then, something rather peculiar. A short rusted old door that I could probably crawl through. I knew it was all too cliche, but curiosity won. My eyes darted around for keys, excited now, and I soon found them. As I fumbled inserting the key, I heard the distant argues and yells of my parents, which were most likely about me and my “transformation”. Just then the disgusting images of earlier this morning came back, and I scrunched up my face, pushing the painful memories from my mind. I slowly opened the door, bracing myself for whatever awaits. All that could be heard was my loud, uneven breathing and the creaks and moans of the opening door... I crawled in, and I was horrified by what I saw. My expression couldn't have shown half the fear I was feeling inside. The peculiar little door had led to a large hall...filled with hundreds of pale, slick haired, red-eyed vampires. I forced myself to hold in the ear-piercing screams I could've released, as I tip-toed farther into the clutches of the demons. They all seemed to be gathered in the middle, simply mingling. Beside them, about 10 long buffet tables were placed, however there was no food, just hundreds of glasses filled with a scarlet red liquid... I let out a whimper, and greatly regretted it later. A whole group of male vampires slowly turned to face me. As soon as they saw me, their yellow faces lit up with grins... “We've been awaiting you, Miss Froste”, they whispered, simultaneously. I could've done a million things right then and there, but I was far too terrified to even think properly. I sat, frozen as marble, eyes wider than ever, flat against the wall. However, that same minuscule part of me told me not to be scared. Why should I be scared...of my own kind? Many wet tears rolled down MY pale cheeks as I slumped to the ground, burying myself in my arms. I had to face it, I was one of them now. Despite my horrible mood and barely audible sobs, I could've sworn I heard the group of vampires softly chuckling like devils in the distance. |
