Chapter 1:
I tuned out the noise of the small coffee shop and put my earphones in, settling for a relaxing jazz piece. Slowly shutting my eyelids, I eliminated every thought in my mind and focused on the music while I sipped my extra creamy latte. It wasn't everyday I treated myself to this kind of thing. Today was a particularily depressing and gloomy day; it was the start to 2 months of loneliness.
As hard as I tried, I just couldn't fight the hurt crawling up my throat. Both my parents gone to the other side of the world, for two whole months, and they were leaving me behind! You could say it made sense, considering they were professional athletes, but they had never both left for this long before, without me. Stupid tournaments.
After slurping up the remains of my latte, I gently packed away my earphones and Ipod into my old tattered shoulder bag. My mother has offered at least a hundred times to buy me a new one; with all the money both my parents haul in, we have enough to get me the most expensive things out there. However, I prefer this bag. I know I'm rich, but it just doesn't feel right when people talk to me just because of my Jimmy Choo flip-flops or whatever.
I slipped into my deep purple jacket, and plopped the matching beanie hat onto my head. I love beanies, there must be at least 20 sitting in my closet. I opened the door to exit, but stumbled into a boy who seemed to be focused on something else while he was walking, just like me.
"Sorry...", I mumbled.
"It's fine. I'm new around here, do you think you could help me out?", he asked, with hints of desperation and plead in his voice.
"Um... sure.", I replied. I couldn't decide whether it was because I had nothing better to do, or because of his attractiveness. Following him back into the shop, I realized this might be a good decision. Make friends. Forget that mom and dad ever left.
We sat down at a table, and after ordering, he turned to me with an innocent smile.
"So, let's start with names. I'm Justin. Justin Brickette", he started.
"I'm Audrey... Audrey Warrington", I replied. He then blabbered on and on about things that just didn't seem important to me, so I just nodded and smiled at the right times. He seemed like a nice guy, but I was just too worn and stressed to care about the words coming out of his mouth. So instead, I decided to look at him a bit more and examine his sharp features.
His hair was completely black, with layers falling about half an inch beneath his ear, bangs only just letting his sweet, light-grey, almond-shaped eyes peep through. His petite nose and lips led down to a pointed face, and I had to admit, he was very good-looking. The clothes he were wearing suited him, alot. He wore a well fitting, light grey sweater under a black jacket with skinny jeans, and black converse on his feet.
Justin had finished his coffee now, and it was getting a bit awkward. I kept quiet and stared at the ground like the introverted girl I am, while he tried to strike up some conversation. I knew this was going no where, so I made an excuse to leave.
"Audrey wait! Can I have your number? Um.. you know... incase I get lost or something...", he said sheepishly, and I swear I saw pink appear on his cheeks...
"Uh sure...", I muttered. I gave him my number as quick as possible, because I could feel my own cheeks growing redder and redder...
The streets of downtown Rochester, New York were almost always busy, but luckily I lived walking-distance to everything. I knew these streets like the back of my hand, and in a short 5 minutes, I was home. Getting my keys from my bag, a wave of depression washed over me as I remembered that I was the only one here now. Well, not the only one. There was Ita, our weird old cleaning lady. I trudge inside with a heavy chest, sighing as I entered.
"Food's on the table", Ita said.
"Okay, thanks", I muttered. I wasn't hungry, so I rushed upstairs to my room to aviod any further communication with her. Our house is exceptionally large, so it took longer than I wanted to go just from the front foyer to my bedroom upstairs. When I got to my door, something stopped me dead, and my heart froze momentarily. I heard voices coming from downstairs. Not one, but 3 or 4, some of them male. Who was in my house?! Where was Ita!? I was too terrified to go and see, so I sprinted to my bed, and hid under the covers, praying it was all a dream, a horrible nightmare. The voices grew louder, now laughing evilly, sending chills up my spine.
That's it, I thought. Clear your mind Audrey, everything but sleep is now unimportant. I forced my now wet eyelids shut, longing for my mothers arms around me, and my fathers reassuring voice. My eyes were closed, but my ears were (unfortunately) alert. I heard the breaking of glass, and more rowdy laughter, but now everything else was quiet, so I could clearly hear what they were saying.
"Yo Lawrence, are we gunna take her or not huh?", a female voice spoke, in a thick south jersey accent. I could tell she was drunk.
"Be patient Razz, probably not till tomorrow night! Now let's get outta this prissy palace!", Lawrence barked. I heard snickers from the others. He also had a south jersey accent, they probably all did. I held my breath until I was sure they had left. I knew they were talking about me. I had no idea where Ita could be, but there were dangerous, drunk people in my house, and I needed a plan, because they're coming back.

**I know this was an incredibly boring chapter, but I had to get that explainy stuff in, it's really important for the next few chapters**

Chapter 2:
I groggily and slowly opened my eyes, adjusting them to the bright light from the sun, which was shining through my large windows. Being somewhat awake now, I received terrifying flashbacks from the previous night, and shot up into a sitting position with my eyes wide, breathing heavily. After a few moments of silent, emotional panic, I composed myself and began to pace my room.
There was no way I was going to let those drunk junkies take me, so I needed to get the hell out of here, fast. I ripped open the doors to my closet and took out my huge travel suitcase from the back, and lay it open on the ground. I then sprinted to my mother's neat-as-a-pin room, and grabbed as much gold and diamond jewelry I could get my shaking hands on. I was going to need money, and these would sell for tens of thousands of dollars. I silently apologized to my mother, and gave a little choke. No, I thought, there's no time for this.
I bolted back to my room, and after putting the jewelry safely in a hidden compartment of the suitcase, I began to fold clothes and pack them at what felt like the speed of light. What else did I need... My mind raced and my head throbbed as I struggled to regain focus and control. Speeding downstairs for a quick glass of water, I slapped my palm on my forehead, feeling idiotic. I had almost forgotten to pack food.
Hastily grabbing all the food I could fit, I flew back up the stairs and placed it all in the suitcase. Every five seconds I nervously glanced over at the door, getting the feeling that they were already here, watching me. I felt like I was standing at the very edge of a cliff, so close to falling, but far enough to save myself. I took a peep at the time, it was already half past four. I assumed I didn't need anything else crucial or essential, hence taking the little time I had left to freshen up in the bathroom.
“Oh my god…”, I whispered, my voice hoarse and cracking, as I viewed my reflection in the various mirrors in my bathroom. My typically pin-straight, dark brown, shoulder length hair was now tangled and frizzed, sticking up in places. My large chocolate brown eyes were puffy and pink, but still wide and fearful. My face just had an overall disgusting and dry appearance to it. I stripped off my clothing and strode into the shower. The hot, soothing water relaxed my tense muscles. I couldn’t help but let out an “Ahhhhh”. Coming out, I felt refreshed and significantly calmer.
I was making my way back to my suitcase when I stuttered over something. I glanced down, to find a paintbrush. I sighed as I put it on one of my easels. There were a lot of them in my room. Art was my favourite thing in the world, I wasn’t athletic at all, as my parents wanted me to be. I squinted to see the time from across the room, and concluded that I would have enough time to paint a quick sunset. I grabbed my brush, and let the strokes and swooshes of the paint against the canvas carry me away.
Suddenly, I heard a loud BANG, followed by an ear-piercing creak. It was the sound of people breaking in. I dropped my paintbrush and made a break for my suitcase, zipping it up and heaving it upright. Cursing under by breath for not leaving earlier, I went through options in my head. The door was gone, and I needed an escape route. At that precise moment, my eyes darted around the room, and froze on the window. It was huge, I could definitely fit. Tying my curtains together made a long rope thing, long enough to lower myself down. First, I threw my suitcase down.
I heard footsteps then, and they were extremely close. I dove under the bed, holding my breath for dear life. One of the kidnappers walked in, and soon left with a grunt as they thought I wasn’t here. Perfect. I crawled out, and continued escaping. Man, kidnappers really should have been a little conscious. I was eavesdropping on everything they were saying. ‘
“Lawrence, I checked every room, she’s not in any of them…”, a deep, gruff male voice spoke.
“Do I look like I care? We are not leaving until we’ve got that daughter of thieves tied up and in the back of our van!!!”, Lawrence growled. Daughter of thieves!? My parents weren’t thieves… What were they talking about?
“But Lawrence, sh-she’s gone! There’s food missing, an-and she must’ve left this morning!”, said Razz, in her south jersey accent. I was shocked to hear that the strong, care-free voice from last night was now anxious and panic-stricken.
“WELL THEN, YOU CAN TELL THAT TO THE BOSS, CAUSE I’M NOT GETTING MY ASS CHOPPED UP AGAIN BECAUSE OF YOU FOOLS!”, Lawrence roared. I heard a loud thud, and more footsteps, this time growing more distant. A million thoughts raced through my head with this new information. I was sure that this wasn’t your typical kidnapping, there was something much bigger at the bottom of this, and I wasn’t planning on finding out. Time to head out. I grabbed a photo of my parents and I off my side table, before grasping the curtain-rope, and gliding out my window.
