Why dead?; This place is a ghost town.

'Ello. New 'ere, but I've been a big fan Zoofights for awhile and I was pretty damned bummed when I found out they were dead and buried. Things happen though and life goes on. Is there any chance anything similar to that will be coming back to this site? Should I have bothered making a profile? I hope so. I feel like the spirit of Zoofights deserves to live on in some form or another. Holler back.

Simply put, Zoofights was pretty insular in the first place, and the hosts have real life concerns to manage so they eventually drifted off. There are like eight people who were the "core" roleplayers, so it's no wonder this is a ghost town. We have major plans for the summer but right now things are quiet. This forum is mostly dedicated to the silly spectator roleplay that blew up into its own weird world and characters and stuff like that.

I'm going to move this topic to a more appropriate board by the way. No hard feelings, it's just in the wrong place.

Evenin' stranger. If you were around for the Zoofights Forums, which were used during Zoofights 6 (the last one, in 2011), you may have noticed a bunch of people going nuts in the "The Bar" subforum, doing things that were only connected to actual ZF by the fact that they occurred in the same universe. That was us.

ZF was dead but we weren't finished, so we spent another year on the dead forum before deciding to pack up and start anew here, since we had no staff and the registration was blocked due to tapogres (spambots).

We've got plans to have Fite Yer Mates here, which is similar in format to Zoofights but it's about people's RP characters and it's not necessarily a tournament. Voting and fights work much the same though.

Welcome, stranger! Yes, as was said, ZF is quite dead. The name is still used because we never had anything better to call it. At the moment it's more of a ghost town than it should be, as our roleplaying is a seasonal deal. Currently we, the "core roleplayers", communicate through a live chat service known as Chatzy, so the forums are even deader than should be normal.

As far as I know, there are currently no plans to continue ZooFights in any shape or form. The original hosts are busy with life, and I think we'd all feel wrong continuing it without the blessing of Major Failure.

Anyone is welcome to join in! The tabletop campaigns already up on the forums are also open to anyone (provided there's spots). For ZFRP we use 1-21 RNG rolls to determine general skill when attacking/defending/performing some sort of task, but that's the only gamelike part of it - ZFRP is more about writing.

We're planning to kick things off in early May. There's a thread in the Zoofights subforum about what the theme will be. There will be some legacy characters you won't know the backstory of but there's also going to be a lot of character turnover so it won't be too bad.

Thank you. I'm not familiar with RNG but I have played other tabletop rpg's. What are the guidelines for character creation? Sorry. 20,000 questions, I know.

RNG just means random number generator. We usually use Random.org. Make it a 1-21. The higher your roll, the better the result, with a 21 being a perfect execution that generally lets people fly off the handle with insane accomplishments.

Your character can be absolutely anything, and you can use pre-existing characters from other media if you are so inclined. A lot of our most memorable characters were generic classes in video games and the like before they were reimagined and given personality and backstory in ZFRP, like a Terran firebat from Starcraft, a Chaos Marine from Warhammer, or a white mage from Final Fantasy. Multiple characters is A-OK, particularly since there aren't too many of us.

It's generally recommended you pick something that fits in well with the theme. This year's RP theme is a clash of space sci-fi meeting swords-and-sorcery medieval times, so things like aliens, space marines, robots, fantasy races, dragons, and knights would all fit in, depending on which "side" they're native to.

I'll see about making a post in the appropriate subforum with a slightly more in-depth guideline list.

So, if I wanted to be a humanoid fly witch doctor would that be allowed?

Not only is that allowed, but someone else used that very same picture to make a bit villain last year.

You're in good company.

We're likely to start things up the first week of May. RP is generally more slow-paced as we get into it, then it speeds up somewhat after a while.

Generally most of the action goes down in the afternoon and evening (going by US time) but it depends on who's available and for how long.
