1. Read the rest of these rules 2. Treat the staff civilly: Remember that staff members are human beings and actually have feelings in some cases. While it may be tempting to use heated language when filing a complaint such behavior will most likely help you in no particular way. The prefered method for communicating complaints or complex questions to any staff member is PM, the C-box is not a place for such concerns. 3. Treat other members civilly: Without other members on this site you, the person reading this, would never actually be able to have any fun. Please remember that others have feelings and would prefer to not be treated with any rancor. Also remember that other players may be unfamiliar with the style or rules of the site. Feel free to correct any light infractions but do not aggressively take control of how they handle themselves. 4. Follow all rules of Zetaboards: This primarily means no graphic images and no explicit content IC. This however does not stop IC events leading up to a fade to black. Feel free to take all ERP desires to PM or other non-public forms of messaging. 5. Discussions restricted on this site: Certain caustic or otherwise troublesome issues are not allowed to be discussed either in the C-box or in any public area of the site. In addition please refrain from any type of protracted debate style argument or heated discussion on any topic. -Politics -Religion -Advertisement (If you actually want to advertise something please talk to a staff member we are glad to make any beneficial associations) -(to be added to as the need arises) Note that these topics are restricted only when they concern things that are not IC or things that do not concern the RP's setting. 6. How to lodge a complaint: In general if you have a complaint about behavior or about a facet of the site you would want to have changed please think it over and try to form the most convincing argument possible. A rant put up simply “to vent” will most likely not even result in anything. If you actually want to see a change please be somewhat articulate and present arguments and evidence that would be convincing to someone utterly unfamiliar with the problem you face. 7. Finish what you start: One of the worst feelings is having a thread you’ve worked on die because of that one person who just decided that they would stop posting without telling anyone. Finish what you start, or if you generally don’t want to finish it, either find a way IC or OOC out of it so no one expects you to post in said thread anymore. 8. Post size: We do expect a basic amount of effort to be put into each post. While we do recognize length isn't always an indicator of quality we ask that you put down at least 200 words 9. On the number of profiles and characters: Each member is allowed only one profile, breaking this rule will result in severe punishment and possibly banning. Each member is allowed only three regiments and three characters. 10.Be patient: Remember that this is an online community and many members may live in vastly different time zones. Please wait for two or three days before you contact anyone to tell them to do something. Also remember to check the inactive board as you may find an answer to your question there. 11. Please?: Just try to be a decent human being, if you ever have to ask yourself whether you should be doing something on this site and you get a bad feeling you probably shouldn’t do it. How to Join Before you can post IC (In Character) you do need to get approved first. To do that follow these steps. 0. Register for an account 1. Read the rules (done) 1a. Post in the welcome forum: Go onto the welcome forum and announce your presence. This isn’t mandatory but will let people know that you are here. 2. Fill out a profile using the code in the profile sheet thread in the join subforum Notes: - The setting is at medieval Europe technology levels, think early 1600s if you really need a precise date. Also, crossbows do not exist. -In actuality a regiment will do more on a battlefield than a single man. Feel free to apply with a single mercenary but understand you won’t do a ton until you find a regiment to join. The staff has no problem with one regiment having multiple PCs in it. -The setting functions on a light magic basis. For a reference consider Greek legends, yes there were mythical creatures and such and you are free to have a regiment of pegasus calvary but no wizards or spells or enchanted weapons and such. -Otherwise feel free to have any concept within reason as long as it stays in accordance with the things mentioned above. 3. Approval: Wait for a staff member to approve your profile or tell you to make the needed changes. After this you should be approved or ready to go. 4. Your signature: go into your profile options and set up your signature, making sure to have links to all characters and regiments under your control. Events: You may notice that at the top of the site there will be a subforum listed events. This is the area where site wide events will take place. Feel free to join these as they are a great way to get to know other players and establish IC connections. Open or Closed?: These terms are simply applied to threads to let people know whether they can join or not. In general an open thread is open to any participation as long as you post within the first few posts. Closed means that only certain people are allowed to join, this will either be indicated in the thread itself or the people invited will be pm’ed, if you’re not invited in don’t join. Combat: As this is a RP about mercenaries and war it is expected that you will participate in a few fights. Pangolins are scaly and well armored. As such it is important to be willing to create a believable combat, i.e be willing to lose as well as win. In a combat you direct your unit and if applicable describe your characters actions. In a fight it is advisable to describe any conditions you may believe will affect your unit (i.e Downhill charge, fighting in the mud) and also describe any maneuvers or tactics you wish to deliver.
As this RP is heroic in nature heroes will commonly clash and duel in the middle of battle, surrounded by a swirling melee as they do harm to each other. Men often look to their commanders in these moments and will gain or lose morale depending on which commander wins or loses.
You may notice that in some events or smaller battles people include maps. These typically demonstrate the tactics and movement of each player and make it clear where players are. They are in no way mandatory. Edited by Ares, Aug 20 2013, 12:08 AM.
