Good comp is Billy Butler
~.840 career OPS going into age 27 season last year
$8,500,000 (2016)(2017x)
4-yrs w/option = 5 years

Brandon Moss broke out for 30 homeruns last year. But outside of a decent campaign in 2012, there isn't much of a track record here. He will be 31 in September and about 3 years older than Butler.

Old Contract:
Brandon Moss $300,000 (2013)

Red Sox offer 3 years w/ TO:
Brandon Moss $6,000,000 (2016)(2017x)

Brandon Moss is only just recently turned 30.
He'll be 30, 31, 32 and 33 for the length of this contract.
That's still in the back end of his prime.

His last two seasons were 954 OPS...and 859 OPS.

$6 million is significantly short.
Needs to be 25/30% higher IMO.

Denied 2-1

If you stretch out his past 2 years numbers over a whole season, then you are looking at a potential 30 HR guy with a strong high .8s OPS. Age is a bit of a concern but if you are going to cut out a year and give 3 yrs plus 4th option then you need to pay more for that.

Moss is worth $8m for a 3yr contract with an option for basically the same reasons Mariners and Angels stated.
