============================= TERMS ============================= (18:36:56 ) TyRen |-PRIVATEER-| Probational of Sulport, IC [-Arena-] Is watching a clash of steel or dancing with death upon the golden sands where heroes fall and Legends are born. says to HERZOG of SULPORT: alright, 8 min , mock killing blows, lexii to scribe, whoever here who wants to judge? ============================= STANCE ============================= (18:40:39 ) TyRen |-PRIVATEER-| Probational of Sulport, IC [-Arena-] Is watching a clash of steel or dancing with death upon the golden sands where heroes fall and Legends are born. says to HERZOG of SULPORT: I was 6'2" 210lbs. I carried a 32" spatha in right hand, it at high hip level, its blade extending forth. This sword was similar to the gladius but offered extended range. In my left hand, held by punch grip was a 36" round shield, made of concentric overlapping layers of hardened leather riveted together and bound with hoops of brass. Normally the Gorean shield is painted boldly and has infixed in it some device for identifying the bearer's city but mine was painted with the insignia of The House of TyRen, Privateer. Upon my head was a Common Warrior Helmet: It is a full length helmet, covering the face, ears, and upper neck. Curved, and made from bronze, with a "Y" shaped opening in front for the eyes, and nose it had a a crest plate on top showed a black bristled tail br> I stood in sideways stance before you at a 15' range, with a left shoulder lead, my shield covered me from thigh to chin. The last time I faced you you had that nasty axe. I didnt like axes. They were scary. (18:53:40 ) HERZOG of SULPORT [-Arena-] Is watching a clash of steel or dancing with death upon the golden sands where heroes fall and Legends are born. says to TyRen|-PRIVATEER-|Probat: -I was six feet tall and two hundred pounds and on my head I wore a conical helm of the northern style. It had a nose guard and a curtain of linked mail that draped from its rim. The mantle of chain started at one temple, encircled the rear of my head and ended at the opposite temple. It hung to the level of my shoulders on each side and three inches below the nape of my neck at the back. In my left hand I also carried a center-gripped shield. Mine was made of wood, three feet in diameter and had an iron band around the rim and an iron center boss. The boss was nine inches wide and dome shaped, extending six inches from the shield's face. In my right hand I carried an axe, its haft thirty inches long. Its steel head was ten inches from the square hammer back to the curved cutting edge. The edge itself was eight inches from top to bottom. I faced you with my left side leading and my right foot trailing two feet behind the left. My shield covered my torso from just beneath my chin to just above my knee. I cocked my axe over my right shoulder where it angled back and slightly to my left. I was fifteen feet away and watched you from above the shield's rim to await your attack.- ============================= Round 1 ============================= (18:56:42 ) TyRen |-PRIVATEER-| Probational of Sulport, IC [-Arena-] Is watching a clash of steel or dancing with death upon the golden sands where heroes fall and Legends are born. says to HERZOG of SULPORT: I stepped forward to close the distance to three feet with my shield pressed forward in front of me in common defensive position from lower thigh to chin.with a squared stance to you Springing from my right foot, I stepped forward with a left foot lead at a distance of 3 feet as my left held shield was moved in a high open door fashion between us, the inner rim in forward fashion and moving to my left and the outer rim in inward fashion to me , in order to try to slow or prevent your axes movement that was high. Simultaneously, as my shield swept before me, the right held spatha was brought high and then swung down hard in right to left motion, aimed toward the left side of your neck where it met your shoulder. (19:02:13 ) HERZOG of SULPORT [-Arena-] Is watching a clash of steel or dancing with death upon the golden sands where heroes fall and Legends are born. says to TyRen|-PRIVATEER-|Probat: -As you stepped forward to close the distance to three feet I stepped back on my left leg to present my right side to you as I lifted my shield, tipping its upper rim back and over my shoulder, and turning the face at an angle to my left so as your sword descended it would meet the face. My upper body was leaned to my right as I did this to enable me to see around the inside rim of my shield. I then swung my axe in a diagonal chop, downwards and to my left, aiming this blow beneath your shield's lower rim and to the right of its outer rim, and for the outside of your left knee. My own shield remained high and I attempted to keep it in constant contact with the blade of your sword as I swung my axe.- ============================= Round 2 ============================= (19:07:34 ) TyRen |-PRIVATEER-| Probational of Sulport, IC [-Arena-] Is watching a clash of steel or dancing with death upon the golden sands where heroes fall and Legends are born. says to HERZOG of SULPORT: As you made such a long diagonal chop, I followed the movement of your axe with my left held shield, while pivoting on my right foot to swing left leg behind me, feeling your axe hit my shield squarely on lower outter face, possibly wedging that axe right into the leather shield I stepped in hard and fast with a left foot lead to a 2 foot distance, pushing forward with my shield in an attempt to push your axen back against you. As I stepped in, I swung the spatha up around in a clockwise (my pov) motion, to bring it around, over your shoulder and high sheild and then back down to my right looking to cleave the blade into your left hip (19:13:49 ) HERZOG of SULPORT [-Arena-] Is watching a clash of steel or dancing with death upon the golden sands where heroes fall and Legends are born. says to TyRen|-PRIVATEER-|Probat: -As you stepped in to close the distance to two feet, I was retreating to open it to four. As I retreated, I was lowering my shield, the face still angled to the left about forty five degrees and as your sword windmilled out to my left and then back in to my right, I used that time to attempt to intercept its blade with the face of my shield and parry it out to my left. My retreat should also have cleared my axe from your shield pin to cock it once more over my right shoulder. Now, four feet from you and your shield hopefully low and your spatha off to my left, I stepped in on my left foot once more to give a left side lead, closing the distance to three feet and simultaneously swung my axe in a descending arc from left to right, aiming it above the rim of your shield and attempting to cleave it into your right shoulder at the juncture of your throat- ============================= Round 3 ============================= (19:19:53 ) TyRen |-PRIVATEER-| Probational of Sulport, IC [-Arena-] Is watching a clash of steel or dancing with death upon the golden sands where heroes fall and Legends are born. says to HERZOG of SULPORT: Seeing you retreat and raise that axe high as you did, I crouched while raising my shield, letting its upper egdge umbrella a bit back over my ducking head as I crouched, feeling again the axe slam into the upper facing of the shield Since You so close that it seemed like you were trying to kiss me, I rose as I stepped into you landing my right foot on top of Your left foot to pin it to the ground as my left held shield pushed about 2 feet in front of me downward a bit from its higher position between your weapon and myself as my spatha snapped towards you from its pushed right position in a hard thrust at your left upper shoulder, knowing the light saber at this range was fast and it would be difficult for you to move your shield fast enough to block it. (19:26:00 ) HERZOG of SULPORT [-Arena-] Is watching a clash of steel or dancing with death upon the golden sands where heroes fall and Legends are born. says to TyRen|-PRIVATEER-|Probat: -My shield was still opened out to my left following my previous parry and between your sword and my body. As your spatha thrust upwards for my shoulder, my shield moved with it, the face still angled out to my left at forty five degrees and my left upper body behind its wooden face. I allowed my axe to continue downwards to my right on the natural path of its previous chop Now, with your shield extended forwards and the distance at three feet I merely altered the trajectory of the axe as soon as it cleared your shield and swung it back in to my left, aiming this blow for your forward right leg, the foot of which rested atop my own left, beneath the bottom edge of your extended shield, intending to lop off your leg with this final blow. My swing was angled downwards and the cutting edge of my axe would hopefully target the backside of your forward right knee.- ============================= Final Defense ============================= (19:30:13 ) TyRen |-PRIVATEER-| Probational of Sulport, IC [-Arena-] Is watching a clash of steel or dancing with death upon the golden sands where heroes fall and Legends are born. says to HERZOG of SULPORT: I shoved my shield back to me and downwards to follow your axe coming from high to low towards my right leg, as I pivoted on left foot, removing my right foot from over yours to swing it behind me, the movement assisting my shield to follow the trajectory of your axe blow, feeling it again crash into my lower facing of shield. (Fight concluded) Good fight Herzog! |

8 MINUTES – MOCK BLOWS – 3 ROUNDS – VOLSTAGG TO JUDGE ============================= STANCE ============================= (18:40:39 ) TyRen |-PRIVATEER-| Probational of Sulport, IC [-Arena-] Is watching a clash of steel or dancing with death upon the golden sands where heroes fall and Legends are born. says to HERZOG of SULPORT: I was 6'2" 210lbs. They were scary. 6ft2, 210lbs – 32inch Spatha in right hand, hip level – 36inch leather round shield in left hand, standard position(No Boss) – Common Y Helm – 15ft distance – Full Left Lead – (I Would be scared of axes too if I had a leather shield!) (18:53:40 ) HERZOG of SULPORT [-Arena-] Is watching a clash of steel or dancing with death upon the golden sands where heroes fall and Legends are born. says to TyRen|-PRIVATEER-|Probat: -I was six feet tall and two hundred pounds and on my head I wore a conical helm of the northern style. Simultaneously, as my shield swept before me, the right held spatha was brought high and then swung down hard in right to left motion, aimed toward the left side of your neck where it met your shoulder. I had to read over this because you state here that you cut the distance down to 3ft, but then in your reaction, you spring forward to close it to 3ft. Mock Blows were chosen so I won’t do points, If I were, I would deduct a point here for clarity issues. – You also reposition yourself into a squared stance… Okay so when you are stepping in with your attacks, it makes it all the more important that you were clear on your distances and that “glitch” of the 3ft mystery is going to affect you here. – Since you are hoping to step forward ONTO the 3ft mark, I’m going to say that you start from the 4.5ft area. – You are moving your shield in a “high open door fashion” , with the inner rim swinging out to point at Herzog, I can see this clear enough but the “ outer rim inward fashion to me” Is something I am not really clear one – What would happen is that the outer rim would draw back, your arm is extending to open that door – your fist would be the pivot and at the same time that the inner rim swung around to point at your opponent, the outer rim draws back towards your left elbow or somewhere close to that mark. – Over all it works, the attack is clean and wanted to give you a clearer idea of how I see your shield in case it comes into play due to the fact that you just left your Right side open to an attack - You should also note that your sword is 3ft, your arm around 2ft and combine that with you the fact that your lead side is 3ft from him, but your rear side(Sword arm side) will be about 1-2ft behind your left side so your reach is going to be at full capacity here. My own shield remained high and I attempted to keep it in constant contact with the blade of your sword as I swung my axe.- As he is stepping forward and swinging with that shield, you are stepping back to mirror his actions, and you are indeed lifting your shield to ramp it defensively. It would have been smoother to make the most of your boss by punching the shield out at his sword whilst you retreat, rather than drawing your shield Away too. I get you are trying to do both but the way you have written it makes it sound like you are moving back in that step FIRST, then lifting your shield as your right side was presented to him. – I will say, that if his attack had been done a bit better, this may have gone entirely different at this moment – However, his sword started at hip level and he had to raise it up, then change direction to come back down at you, so it buys you enough time for this defence to work and combining that with his reach, I see the tip of his sword slicing through the air rather than becoming trapped on your shield. Due to this opening up his shield he did and your poised position – It would have been perfect for that move I showed you against Cernus in the 1st round of my spar. – But Alas – this is not going to work, the distance between your lead left foot, and his was 3ft – then you drew your left side back behind your right side which was initially 2ft behind your left so now the distance between his lead left foot, and your now lead right foot if 5ft – It’s a nice little retreating attack but you Sir, are drunk! And this distance makes your axe struggle to reach, unless he steps forward, I think this would fall short of its target. ============================= Round 2 ============================= (19:07:34 ) TyRen |-PRIVATEER-| Probational of Sulport, IC [-Arena-] Is watching a clash of steel or dancing with death upon the golden sands where heroes fall and Legends are born. says to HERZOG of SULPORT: As you made such a long diagonal chop, I followed the movement of your axe with my left held shield, while pivoting on my right foot to swing left leg behind me, feeling your axe hit my shield squarely on lower outter face, possibly wedging that axe right into the leather shield I stepped in hard and fast with a left foot lead to a 2 foot distance, pushing forward with my shield in an attempt to push your axen back against you. As I stepped in, I swung the spatha up around in a clockwise (my pov) motion, to bring it around, over your shoulder and high sheild and then back down to my right looking to cleave the blade into your left hip Opening the distance from 5ft to 7ft now. His axe is clear and your shield is safe. If I took the step in at face value – you would now be doing the splits. Instead I will have you moving both feet to cut this large distance back down. It’s going to buy him time though. I see what you are doing with the attack – And knowing that you thought your sword to be above his ramped shield, It’s quite a nice attack to be honest – However since it turns out that you both got a bit confused on the distance – we’ll see what happens. (19:13:49 ) HERZOG of SULPORT [-Arena-] Is watching a clash of steel or dancing with death upon the golden sands where heroes fall and Legends are born. says to TyRen|-PRIVATEER-|Probat: -As you stepped in to close the distance to two feet, I was retreating to open it to four. Now, four feet from you and your shield hopefully low and your spatha off to my left, I stepped in on my left foot once more to give a left side lead, closing the distance to three feet and simultaneously swung my axe in a descending arc from left to right, aiming it above the rim of your shield and attempting to cleave it into your right shoulder at the juncture of your throat- He starts to cut the distance down in his reaction; you mirror it – retreating whilst at the same time repositioning your shield to catch his strike on its face. – You also reposition your axe into that poised crank. Clean. Now this attack does remind me a bit of the one I did with Cernus – though not quite and the way it reads seems awkward. You make no mention of clearing it over your head before the left to right chop so even though I do see it working, It looks – like I say – Awkward because it is already at your right, poised for a right to left shot, so not sure how you are repositioning it enough to the left for that left to right chop instead if you aren’t raising it over the back of your head beforehand. ============================= Round 3 ============================= (19:19:53 ) TyRen |-PRIVATEER-| Probational of Sulport, IC [-Arena-] Is watching a clash of steel or dancing with death upon the golden sands where heroes fall and Legends are born. says to HERZOG of SULPORT: Seeing you retreat and raise that axe high as you did, I crouched while raising my shield, letting its upper egdge umbrella a bit back over my ducking head as I crouched, feeling again the axe slam into the upper facing of the shield Since You so close that it seemed like you were trying to kiss me, I rose as I stepped into you landing my right foot on top of Your left foot to pin it to the ground as my left held shield pushed about 2 feet in front of me downward a bit from its higher position between your weapon and myself as my spatha snapped towards you from its pushed right position in a hard thrust at your left upper shoulder, knowing the light saber at this range was fast and it would be difficult for you to move your shield fast enough to block it. Because I see his angle – getting from his right shoulder, around and over to Your right shoulder – as an awkward one, This works. Your leather shield takes a full haymaker overhead blow here dead on, no parry or anything. It would in my opinion split severely and be out of the fight now. A rising forward step, Okay. – Force posting of stepping on his foot is not happening. – Your shield took a mighty overhead blow and is fucked so that’s not happening either. - I had to read back again to see if I somehow missed the appearance of a saber. You had such a good attack opportunity here, but unfortunately in this wording, it just did not go as intended. You have a spatha, which would almost skittle along his shield face from that last attack, You don’t lean back, reposition, or move your sword in anyway. In fact you actually state “pushed right position.” Confirming that his defence worked in full and pushed your sword away. The problem is that without doing any of these lean/reposition/movements to clear your sword, you then step right in, close enough to try and step on his foot, Your arm and spatha long sword is going to be all sorts of trapped here, a very dangerous tangle to end up in, especially since you took a full on haymaker blow to your shield and it is now pretty destroyed. I would see this attack likely getting caught up on the face of his shield, perfect opportunity for him to perform a counter-attack here. My swing was angled downwards and the cutting edge of my axe would hopefully target the backside of your forward right knee.- No counter attack?!? missed opportunity there bud. - But: Like you clarify, your shield is still “opened out to your left” – Had he dropped to his knees, I may have seen his sword retreating with him enough to come clear of your shield face. But he didn’t, he crouched like he was squatting for a turd and then even closes the distance. He is not fighting with a short sword and he made no repositioning attempts so I agree that it would still be somewhat on the other side of your shield, allowing you to shadow its movement enough to block it. If he HAD lowered to one knee here, his sword would have cleared your open shield and I would have seen his sword cutting behind your open shield and stabbing you before you could close that door/shield back in again. Thats why you should always block AND move. You lucky bastard. You let him have the force post. – Okay. You don’t have to worry about his shield, I could not in clear conscience say that a leather shield survived a haymaker Axe chop dead on. The attack itself is clean. ============================= Final Defense ============================= (19:30:13 ) TyRen |-PRIVATEER-| Probational of Sulport, IC [-Arena-] Is watching a clash of steel or dancing with death upon the golden sands where heroes fall and Legends are born. says to HERZOG of SULPORT: I shoved my shield back to me and downwards to follow your axe coming from high to low towards my right leg, as I pivoted on left foot, removing my right foot from over yours to swing it behind me, the movement assisting my shield to follow the trajectory of your axe blow, feeling it again crash into my lower facing of shield. (Fight concluded) Good fight Herzog! This won’t work. You moved to step on his foot during your reaction and you have to make the immediate conscious decision to reverse that and step back off again. – The retreating step alone would not beat the speed of the axe. Without anything to obstruct the axe – even drawing your leg back would just pull the back of your knee onto his axe edge since he is seeking to tuck it BEHIND the joint. If your shield was in full health then it MAY have stopped it. But Your shield is fucked and would offer you no help in this. So since I ruled it destroyed earlier, we have to rely on your movement to save you, and It just wouldn't, not in time. – I see your leg starting to retreat so the axe does not quite get ‘Behind it’ in time, but I would hack into the Inside of the leg, striking the side of the joint and almost cleaving the leg off completely. ======= RESULTS ======= Winner by Crippling blow to the Knee – HERZOG It was a good fight guys. I definitely think it would have ended sooner had the distances not gone FUBARED. Tyren, You fought well and I thought you had Herzog a couple of times there, You seemed to be posing the most threat in this instance - but the wording just needed a bit of tweaking. My tip for you would be to NEVER attempt to stop an axe blow dead on, Always use your shield to parry it – Even a wooden shield can only take a couple of hits like that from an axe. – If the strike that broke your shield had not being a ‘super’ strike then it MAY have lasted long enough for that final defence. But a Haymaker overhead chop all the way down to your crouched/umbrella shield was too much I believe. I tried to put a bit more detail into my Judgement so that those new to prodigy can read this and learn a bit. Any Questions, you know where I am. |
