Upon my head was a Y-helm; its interior lined with rolls of leather for cushioning and a sturdy strap secured it in place beneath my chin. In my left hand I grasped the 3ft long slave goad, my right fist held the 32inch wooden round shield baring a 6inch coned boss of steel. I did not appear to carry anything further. I was dressed in simple leathers, sturdy boots and a sleeveless midnight blue tunic that gave my arms the freedom I wished. I set the distance to 10ft and took an half open right leading stance. My shield centred to protect me from thigh to collar bone and the slave goad was raised, parallel to my shoulders with my arm cocked backwards like a loaded piston, the 5inch humming metal tip of the goad was jutting a couple of inches over the top inner rim of my shield towards your mouth. You were a formidable looking opponent. I stood there, 6'2" in height, weighing 220 pounds. I held my 7' Arian war spear in my right hand, held mid shaft. The blade of the spear made from bronze, shaped like a leaf, 18" in length. In my left hand I held the handle grip of my 32" gorean round shield, steel rimmed with layers of hardened leather wound about its face. On my head, my 'Y" slotted helmet, conical designed, my most treasured possession. I slid my left foot forward, creating a left side lead, my legs at a distance of shoulder width a part. The shield covering from the line of my left shoulder, down to just above my left knee. The spear held with my hand six inches outside my right hip, the shaft and blade angled in against the bottom/right portion of the shields rim. The high held point of the slave goad was humming quietly with energy and quite suddenly, I punched my right held shield forward, keeping the face vertical and presented towards you as it extended in hopes of bashing the coned boss against your spear head to try and use it to pin across your shielded body, obstructing your movement whilst my slave goad dropped deceptively behind the cover of the extending shield, only to plunge forward, the steel tip jutting out from beneath the lower rim of my shield in a thrusting strike for your lead left knee, beneath the bottom rim of your own shield.. As you tried to get within 3 feet, I moved back, shuffling to open the distance to 5 feet. The wider distance enabling me to retract my spear and lift it up in an arc to eventually have it end up over my right shoulder, and above the rim of my own shield. With the quick attempted strike of your slave goad, I quickly dropped the shield I held sufficiently to cover the entire mass of my left knee, your goad winding up connecting with the wooden aspect of the lower portion of my shields face.- -With you being somewhat taller, I quickly jabbed upward and forward with my right held spear, attempting to get it over the top rim of your extended shield and directly into the front of your face. Hopefully - now with your spear pressed across the top face of your shield and your striking arm extending, I would sharply turn my left wrist like turning a key in a lock to whip my slave goad around, only to have the shocking pointed tip catching the underneath of your extended right arm, just beneath the elbow joint and dropping you to the ground at my feet. The movement giving my the opportunity to bring my shield across my body from my left to right, while simultaneously drawing my right elbow down and my right arm behind the face of my shield, your goad catching the right side of my shield face. We were now in an awkward position. I quickly pushed down in my right foot, moving my left side away from my right, out to my left. My right forearm then angled down, the blade of my spear angling down with it as I jabbed forward with the spear looking to get under the raised bottom edge of your shield, and slice across the inside of your left thigh. The attack being a jab, the spear would then move back to how it was previously.- (19:21:11 ) .V O L S T A G G of S U L P O R T. R : -Counter attack- You may have retracted your spear arm in time to evade my slave goad, but I never retracted mine and so it just remained there against the inner edge of your shield. And at the moment you started to draw your left side (Your shield side) away from your right side (Your spear arm). I took instant advantage of that opportunity and stepped in to 2ft, thrusting that already extended slave goad towards your right arm pit. It would not have far to go and as already practically around your shield from its initial placement so I hoped that the sizzling tip would skewer deep into the soft tissue and cripple you before you could even begins your strike, if such was not the case however, I hoped that at the very least, my goad haft would become a cross bar, catching the shaft of your spear or arm and denying the drop it would need to get to my thigh. My right arm had already begun its descent. We were four feet away from each other at this point, so at least 3 and a half feet of my spear would be between us. With the slight lowering of my right arm, the angle of my spear changed, not given nearly enough time to go for my previous attempted attack. The spears angle now upward at a 45 degree angle, as you stepped in to close the distance, knowing a counter attack was coming, I changed the direction of the attack, lunging forward with the spear, hoping to catch you as you moved forward, before getting me in the armpit with the goad, to puncture the blade of my spear into left armpit to disable your left arm before it would land with the goad...hence...countering your counter!... Counter- closing to 3 feet- clean Reaction- clean and pretty nasty. nice setup with the shield punch to try and torque his wrist and drive his spear across his body between your shields. - clean (19:02:41 ) . Then it continues up to get it over your right shoulder. This would be an awkward position to have your spear in order to execute this thrust and still utilize the power and leverage of a war spear. From your stance, you are holding it with the point forward and low. Lifting it to get 3 and a half feet of spear over your shoulder would turn your hand outwards and twist your wrist, so the back of your hand is in towards you. I can't see a very secure grip in this position. (19:08:55 ) .V O L S T A G G of S U L P O R T. Counter- Mostly clean, but he jabbed his spear, which is a quick thrust and withdrawal, so while your defense was successful, his spear would probably not be pinned against his shield's face. Given his awkward thrust in his attack though, I can't see a jab being successful and I can see it easily parried. Reaction- Nice attack, but his arm was retracted with his jab. So from a crouch, with your shield turtled, I can't see this thrust finding its target. (19:14:29 ) . D . R . E . G . O . Are you pivoting, or are you stepping to your left? You seem to thrust your spear under his lifted shield, but aim to slice his thigh with a jab... a jab is just a fast thrust. Counterattack- You step in to close the distance to two feet, but you never came out of your crouch. Although, given the size difference, I can see your longer reach making this doable. Even if you are unable to make contact before his strike, His spear jab would carry his arm into the slave goad. Lets see what he does, because I can't see a three foot slave goad being much defense against the better leverage of a spear. (19:26:19 ) . D . R . E . G . O .
