says to ALL: The long day had left me feeling depleted and so the evening would find me enjoying a lavish amount of time within my favored bathhouse. A light, gauzy robe of delicate material draped me bodily as I lazed atop one of the cushioned chaise lounges, the shadow of a female body bleeding through. A platter of grapes sat near to me and I toyed at the fruit, plucking a single grape from the vine and pressing it to my lips. It was a distraction of sorts, as one slender leg was drawn from the folds of my robe. A slave kneeling to the side, focused upon what little fine hairs there might be and with tweezers plucked them free. It was annoying, that pinch and plucking but she worked quickly and with great care. I muttered unpleasantries at the ceiling as my teeth sank into the ripe flesh of a grape.

It was uncomfortably warm within that little alcove, extra braziers had been lit for added light and the flicker of flame pronounced itself upon the walls and ceilings in dancing shadow. Porcelain skin glowed softly, moist and supple. I tried to hold still, my teeth clenching as several delicate hairs were pulled free from the skin in rapid succession. My gaze shifted to the slave in silent warning. The meeting of our eyes and her entire body flinched, jerking in reaction. I might have cuffed her across the face but I'd wait until she was finished. Slaves tended to be vain creatures and to instill fear, I'd admonish her threateningly.

"Proceed with caution slave before you find yourself bald."

I whispered through clenched teeth. The irritation in my tone of voice echoed from the stone partitions. The words carried and was overheard by others undergoing the very same treatment. There was the obvious snicker of unseen slaves and of Women, chiding them to silence despite their obvious enjoyment.

says to ALL: It seemed a small eternity had passed before the slave, who's name I had no reason to learn, completed the taxing chore. One that had pained me far more than it had her. Pale eyes of jade cut to the girl momentarily, besides the one instance of becoming overzealous with the tweezers, the experience had been tolerable. I stood, swaying to my feet, to tower over the kneeling slave girl. This simple movement made her lower her forehead to the floor and her body visibly trembled. I could read the fear in her. A cruel smile upturned my lips at this display. But I turned from her, drawing the robe from my shoulders and peeling it from me. I spread the soft material atop the chaise and proceeded to lay down upon my stomach. Borrowing a pillow close, I used it to cushion the bend of my elbows so that I might continue my slow enjoyment of the grapes.

"You may rise, slave. I pray that your skill in massage is better than that with the tweezers."

A laugh filled my throat, low and secretive. But there was the sound of movment as she lifted from her kneel and moved swiftly around the chaise to procur the lightly scented oil I had brought with me. It had been warmed near the braziers and its scent aromatic as she covered her hands liberally. The girls touch was delicate but firm and smoothed across the low of my back. I allowed my head to drop forward and onto the pillow, my hands drawing aside the length of dark hair to expose the entirety of my back to her skill.

says to ALL: I exhaled a long breath as she set to work. The muscles of my back held tension in knots along my spine. Carefully her fingers worked tenderly until I could scarcely lift my head from the pillow. My face was lost in a curtain of dark tendrils. The grapes now sat forgotten. Thoughts tried to form in my mind but they remained just out of reach. There was nothing but blissful silence and slowly, darkness creeped forward to claim me.

A melody came from the darkness. The low, soft whistle played off the stone walls around me. It was a haunting sound but with it came peace. My eyes followed black-feathered birds in flight, like shadows they danced gracefully upwards, riding the currents of the wind with unfathomable grace. As aware of me as I was of them, they circled overhead as if to warn me. The skies around them turned swiftly from blue to dreary grey, rolling clouds spilled across the horizon with flashes of lightning to illuminate the creeping shadows along a maze. The snaking corridors of a long ago abandoned compound flickered in my mind. The spill of crimson petals to flutter across pristine stones of astonishing white.

I jerked away, laughter drawn from my lips as the slaves fingers worked the back of my thigh with force. She'd pulled me from the dream. My face half-turned with the smile still riding my lips, heavy-lidded eyes half closed. I tried not to think about where that dream had been headed. Unaware of how long I'd been there, been sleeping, a yawn was born from my lips. I spoke hastily...

"You are dismissed. Be gone."

In silence, she swiftly departed. Some how sensing she had interupted something. I stood then, my muscles beyond relaxed and found it hard to balance. I drew the robe upon me, belting it tightly. Small feet were then housed within small slippers and I made my return to the privacy of a rented dressing room.

says to ALL: I dressed quickly, my robes beautiful in their simplistic design. The material draped in sweeping lines to hide the lean frame, spilling long and flowing to hide sandled feet beneath the hemline. I fashioned my hair into a single thick braid that hung heavily down my back. And there, hidden beneath the neckline, was the necklace I had been gifted. The weight of the wood pendant rested in very center of my chest. It had been some time since I had thought on her and what she had said to me. And I wondered those words had somehow conjured the dreams I'd been having. I walked at a leisurely pace through the corridor of the bath house and paused at the desk to add additional coin to the plate.

As I stepped onto the walk, my gaze swept quickly in both directions, along the exterior of the building before I drifted out and into the dwindeling crowd.

[-Streets-]
Along one of the many busy Streets where the shops never seem to close and crowds never fade.

says to ALL: A deliberately quick stride carried me along. Those pale eyes surveyed everything within proximity to me. My route was decidedly southern, my destination that of my office. The growing darkness might well be soon black and I had no want to be caught out upon the streets, preferring the safety of being indoors at such an hour. As such, I avoided the alleys as well. They were dangerous enough by day but by night they became the hell-mouth. I knew well enough to stay far, far away.

A shiver danced along my spine as I recalled the severed head of the man, like macabe decor to litter the floor of the alley just behind the office. For a moment, I wondered where his body had been left and if it had yet been discovered.
