Somewhere within the large thicket of ancient trees that sits halfway between Sulport and Fina. It acts as a borderline for the two homes and with a shady unstable peace treaty in play; neither side dare cross into the others territory through fear of causing a full blown war.

says to [.Deaths Lady.]V A L I A: -I stood waiting, by that nest of large boulders. The same ones you had once tried to hide from Me upon. I had let you be and stood watch that night, keeping you safe as I always did... My gaze rose towards the brush as I saw you approaching through it. -

”I see you got the missive.”

-I had informed Savitar to discretely break into your office and leave the note for you to meet me out here. The note had informed you to wear something fitting for the woods and hopefully you heeded that information. I stood dressed in black leathers and animal pelts, nothing upon me was shiny, not the buckle of my belt, not the leathers and not even my weapons. The axe head that hung in a sling at my side had been smeared in mud to dull the glint and reflection it may otherwise give. I held a short bow out to you, it was plain, Flexible temwood and already strung.

says to .V O L S T A G G of the : The note had been discovered, under suspicious circumstances, considering the doors had been barred since that first surprise visit of yours that had ended with the sharpness of your blade held against the curve of my throat. And I had not been surprised to find that it was from you. I was still speculating on all of the renovations that had been rendered by your men and this only added further paranoia. Those pale eyes of dappled green leveled upon you, fixed in a stare as I emerged from the line of brush.

"I got the missive, alright."

The lyric of a female voice held sly tones as the words were spoken, a dainty chin pulled upwards silently as I took note of the short bow. The dark forest of hair was weaved into a braid that started at the crown of my head and ended somewhere along the mid of my back. I wore a simple tunic of brown, layered over a fitted long-sleeve garment of the very same shade, both ending high upon my thighs. Black leathers bled into black boots so that it was impossible to tell the cuff of the boots began just below my knees, soft soled and light to maintain a silent step and ease in movement. I drifted lightly over the landscape, accustomed now to the upshot of roots and stones that randomly carpeted the wild acreage of land.

I reached for the bow as you held it out, my gaze sliding over your own tactical way of dressing and I wondered exactly what I was going to be doing. You had never called me for such a purpose and I was...intrigued. The curiosity loomed in the depths of my gaze, the question though remained unspoken.

says to [.Deaths Lady.]V A L I A: What you may have forgotten about the past (because I can't read minds) is that after your office was unfortunately burned badly, I had my own men fix it all back up for You... so perhaps there were ways into your Home that even you did not know of. I would not disclose such a thing to you of course. Only I knew of those passages and I would peel the flesh off any other who sought to stake a claim on what was Mine. Once you took hold of the bow, I turned and started to walk, keeping my own grip on the bow too.-

-I lead us deeper into the woods, straying away from the worn path and instead forcing my way through the thick growth of wilderness that had seen far less traffic. You may notice that even through he stayed in the thick of the woods, it was starting to slope uphill until eventually, I found myself having to let go of the bow in order to dig my fingers into the ground, grasping roots and rocks to pull myself up a near vertical slant. When I finally reached the top, the land evened out again and I turned back to look down towards you, offering a hand down should you require such a thing, if you took it, I would pull you the rest of the way up as though you weighed nothing. If you did not take it, I would move out of the way to let you climb up onto even ground again.

says to .V O L S T A G G of the : I had not forgotten that fact and it was the very reason for speculation. The fire itself, even being called into question given that it was the reason the renovations had been necessary at all. Despite the builders involvement, I could now see that it had happened rather conveniently. The only question left in my mind was the purpose of such things. I was now your kept woman and to my knowledge, there were none to object your claim.

My fingers curled, claiming a grip on the bow as you turned to walk. I followed as you trekked us into denser lands. It took some effort but an adjustment of stride allowed for longer, quicker steps that were more suited to this terrain. As the incline steadily grew, I was careful to watch my footing and yours so that I wasn't -accidentally- kicked by a slip of boot. When you were forced to let go of the bow, I slung it diagonally across my body and pursued you. I was not to proud to accept your hand though when it came. A soft, delicately boned hand found a tight grip upon yours and even as you pulled, I mirrored the effort so that it was a rapid climb to the top wasting no time at all.

"Thank you."

The words murmured lowly yet genuinely. A smile of appreciation claimed the curve of my lips. Now that we stood on level ground, curious were the eyes that slid away from you to see where we were headed. It brought to mind the trip into the rence and the thalarion, amid other things. I recalled that time happily and this reflected in the quiet softening of expression as I stood beside you.

says to [.Deaths Lady.]V A L I A: Upon your thanks, I merely smiled in silence, holding your hand in mine and turning away to continue. We were almost there, but there was still a little way to go. Darkness would creep in soon, but that was a benefit to us. I had no torch, lantern, or carry sconce with me, but I could see where I needed to go-

-And so Once again we were moving, walking along the edge of that slopes peak until eventually we found ourselves moving across the top of a high rocky ridge deep in the wild tarsk woods. Up ahead you would see the stream before it poured over the edge in a long narrow waterfall. Nearby its verge was a large almost cube shaped boulder and sitting on top of it was a loaded crossbow, A pouch of bolts and a quiver. I moved towards that and settled down in a kneel. My gaze swept over the top and towards the land below where the stream cut through the trees in a gentle swerve. When I spoke, it was quiet. I didn't whisper, for the “S” pronunciations in whispers always tended to travel further than one might expect. Instead I spoke in a low, dull growl.-

”Do you hold skill in a bow?”

says to .V O L S T A G G of the : I was vaguely aware that the skies were growing darker but it wasn't something that concerned me. Perhaps had I been alone, then it might have garnered more attention. As it were, I was with you, therefore I considered myself mostly safe. My fingers curled around yours and held as I half-followed you. You knew the way, after all, and I trusted that you would not lead me astray.

We walked quietly, without the need for words, the only sounds that of nature and the occaisional whisper of our treading over the gravel along the ridge. I could hear the sound of falling water and followed the stream to where it spilled over the edge. It was much cooler here, the currents of moving water adding its chilling kiss to the night air.

I thought the squared shape of the boulder odd and unnatural, making me wonder if it had been strategically placed in its current position. My eyes were swift to take in the crossbow, the bolts and a quiver--I would assume containing arrows for the bow now draped bodily across me. Once you settled into position, my gaze was cast down, overlooking the lands below to follow the curve of the stream.

"I'm not extensively trained if that is your meaning, but I was allowed a certain manner of study in its use."

My tone was pitched low yet not in whisper, the softness of my voice was contained and mellow.

says to [.Deaths Lady.]V A L I A: -I had heard a tale or two that hundred, perhaps thousands of years ago, a small fort bridge had been built upon this very spot by outlaws who inhabited the woods. Now, this 3ft high, 5ft long, 2ft wide “boulder” was all that remained. It was certainly possible that those who told the tale were just full of shit and this rock had been shaped naturally by corrosion of rain and such. But I didn't care enough to investigate its truth. It served its purpose and was one of my favourite vantage points. I nodded at your words and motioned for you to find you knees next to me, the boulder was low enough for you to see over it still.-

“Well its pretty simple. And quicker than this...”

-I picked up the crossbow and for the moment held it by the under-barrel in the crook of my left arm.-

”For example, if this was prodigy, You could fire your bow in Every round … I on the other hand, would be able to fire my crossbow in one round … then I would have to spent the next round loading it since I can't load and shoot in the same post like you could....”

-My gaze watched the stream and the verge on either side, I saw nothing for the moment, but I knew “watering hole” times and expected to see life soon.-

”It's an under rated weapon. People focus too much on comparing to the long bow and so they assume that because its the shorter one, its the weak one... it -is- weaker than the long bow of course … but by no means weak.”

says to .V O L S T A G G of the : The square of the boulder provided some shielding and however it had come to be, it was proving useful at this moment. I eased downwards and the bend of leather-clad knees claimed a spot beside you. I could see over the boulder and watched as I listened. My gaze would turn to watch as you handled the crossbow.

"Because it is lighter and more manuverable...Or is there some other reasoning?

When your gaze lifted from the weapon in hand, my own eyes were quick to follow. It was obvious you were watching for something and by now, I gathered we were hunting game. I gave a silent nod as you explained some people's quick dismissal of the weapon as weak.

"Most are likely quick to dismiss it because even a woman can wield it...and some with great skill...an arrow at close range shot...is no less deadly."

I continued to speak lowly, my gaze surveying the meadow below. I watched for signs of movement in the growing darkness.

says to [.Deaths Lady.]V A L I A: -the darkness loomed in and though is cast -us- into darkness, the moons reflection upon the stream lit up the grassy verges well enough. When you spoke I nodded.-

”That and it can be loaded faster. You can also aim whilst loading... All you have to do is notch an arrow. But I would have to crank back the string, and slot a bolt into the trench before I can aim.”

-Sure enough there was a slight movement in the shadows, About 100ft away, I watched as a full grown husked tarsk moved towards the stream, dipping its head towards the waters for a much needed drink. I slowly shifted in posture, settling on sitting cross legged against the boulder.-

”Watch how I do this, and how I split it....”

(My shot incoming.)

says to [.Deaths Lady.]V A L I A: -I now held the crossbow with both hands. I had jammed the butt against the ball of my right shoulder and the fingers of my right hand were resting against the trigger. Rather than holding the under-barrel with my left hand, I instead extended my arm across myself to rest my left hand on top of the that wooden butt, further securing it. Your quiver of arrows was in front of Me and I rested the under-barrel on top of that instead, using it like a pivot to angle my shot. It was a calm night with little to no wind. I did not aim above or to the side of the creature, I aimed directly for it. Not the head, but the chest and were I estimated its heart to be resting.....I exhaled... and then slowly began to inhale....

-The moment That inhaling of breath was complete, My fingers squeezed the trigger and there was a sudden snapping sound. The bolt -zipped- from the trench and shot towards the Tarsk at rocket speed. Bolts travelled faster than arrows and by the time the sound of the release reached that beasts ears... I hoped that the bolt would be sinking into its heart and dropping it dead down below on that verge.-

says to [.Deaths Lady.]V A L I A: -I watched the tarsk fall as my bolt struck true and I cast a smirk in your direction.-

”I am glad you are too.......”

-I placed the crossbow down on the boulder and looked towards you-

”I split my post into two portions … I did all my loading and aiming in the top half … and I did the firing in the bottom half …. I noted which hand squeezed the trigger, where I aimed, and the distance … I also noted that I only -hoped- my attack landed, rather than force posting that it did land....”

-I glanced up in time to see a beautiful Deer of the North venture out towards the stream, fortunately for us it was a lot closer and did not see the dead tarsk, or the sight would have spooked it. It was no secret that I stocked these woods with Game from all over Gor and this deer... which was actually a very large stag … had been imported with a herd long away when I last travelled back home...-

”Here You go... now you try... The average range with that bow is about 60ft at most realistically, but with this elevated vantage point, you can practically double that range … You just need to aim a little bit above the spot you are aiming for … notch your arrow, draw back, aim... space … fire...

says to .V O L S T A G G of the : In the distance, I had seen the tarsk fall and already I could envision the smirk that would soon play upon usual scowling features. Already, I knew you to be a dangerous man, it seemed rather fitting that it was true in this venue as well. I watched and proceeded to listen to your further instructions. The knowledge you bestowed upon me was very much worth having and like a sponge, my mind was quick to absorb the lesson. A sage nod was given then as I'd try my hand.

I pulled the bow free, holding it midshaft in the clutch of my right hand. From the quiver a single arrow was drafted with my left hand. I eased up to balance my weight upon my knees. The arrow was notched, the string drawn tight with a two fingered-grip as the bow itself was raised parallel to the line of my body, my gaze followed the stem of the arrow down past the bladed-head and beyond. My focus now was the monstrosity of a deer now walking towards the stream approximately 120 feet or 40 yards out from our current position. I inhaled slowly letting all else fade away. I took into account the elevation and winds as I drew the notched arrow back until it whispered along the delicate curve of my jaw. Waiting for the deer to stop along the waters edge, it was the side of his chest right behind and a little above the shoulder that became my target. Once the deer dropped his attention to the deliciousness of that water, I exhaled and...

with my left hand I loosed that notched arrow, the string hummed softly its release as the arrow was given flight. I had aimed high, hoping for the heart but if I missed I stood a fair chance of possibly skewering the lungs.

says to [.Deaths Lady.]V A L I A: -I watched you, with an intense stare as you prepared yourself, admittedly, I pictured you naked doing this and grinned discretely in the shadows beside you. When that arrow soared, the flights caught the wind and it actually elevated the shot slightly. Then, like a fish leaping from the water, it began to arc back down, declining steadily and then extremely until eventually it -slammed- into the side of that stag and dropped it instantly. A perfect shot. I started to chuckle and glanced across at you again.-

”I am glad I'm on this side of the rock.”

-My chuckle faded in an instant and my head turned back towards the stream. There was nothing. At least – not at first. But I kept watching, staring into the shadows, and sure enough, a figure moved out towards the dead stag. It was a Hunter of Fina. He moved towards the beast and knelt beside the warm body, his hand touched the flight of the area and he peered across the stream, into the trees, looking for whoever murdered the poor animal. It would seem that he had been tracking the bounty and we had stolen the kill... I motioned to the Hunter and spoke in that levelled, quiet tone....-

”See if you can go two for two. Aim for a lung.”

-If you aimed for the heart, and the arrow drifted, it might hit the sternum and that part of the rib cage was pretty tough, I had been stabbed in the sternum before and it had not even slowed me down, So risking a non disabling shot was never wise... Aiming for the lung would make it easier and besides, I liked to see the suffering before the death that came with a punctured lung.

says to .V O L S T A G G of the : I might have laughed when you parroted my words back at me but already I reached for a second arrow having caught the movement out of my periphory. I had assumed it to be another deer, perhaps the mate of the large buck that now lay dead at the lip of the stream. I had the arrow notched and drawn once more with my left hand, my right held the bow at arms length and slowly tracked the movement. The line of my back tightented as I realized it was man, walking towards the downed deer on the waters edge. Dressed as he was and so near to the boundaries, I would guess him to be of Fina. I did not want him to claim my kill, nor place us here. I sniffed at your suggestion to aim for the lung because that was my instinct. I wanted a larger target, fleshy without the armor of bone. I drew back upon the strings with the same two-fingered grip until the gull-feathers ghosted the line of my jaw. The bow was held taunt, aligned with my body and once more I adjusted the bladed-tip upwards in accordance with the elevation and wind. My eyes narrowed as my gaze slid down the shaft of the arrow, beyond the tip to find the hunter leaning over the deer. I drew my breath and waited for him to stand up fully...when he righted himself, my breath whispered his death

there was no hesitation in the quick snap of the fingers of my left hand, the string sprung forward with exertion to send that arrow spiraling into flight with deadly intent, a path hissed towards the central right portion of his abdomen. I held my breath trying to watch its rapid flight....a lung..a kidney...I hoped for both...

says to [.Deaths Lady.]V A L I A: -I watched you take your next shot and just like the first, it was near flawless. You are a natural it seems. In Sulport – as most knew, only seven or so Berserkers were left. I had no doubt that they would be overjoyed to hear about the death of a Fina scout... I watched his body stagger backwards. I saw him writhing on the ground, reaching for the arrow, it sank straight through the slats of his ribs and nailed true, he tried to pull it out, but he could not and within moments, his arms fell limp to his side. He was dead.-

”Very Nice, Valia.”

-A flicker of something sparked in my gaze as I stared at you for a moment. I rose up to my feet and glanced at the three bodies. Way down there below. My gaze cut a side long glance at you as I considered something. But ultimately, I pursed my lips together and let out a long, loud, sharp, whistle... Down below, no less than a hundred Berserkers stepped out from the streets, they flanked either side of the trees. They were not washed and cleaned that those in the town. They were dirty and almost covered from head to toe in animal pelts. Each carried an armoury of weapons and they moved as one, collecting up the tarsk, the stag, and the Fina corpse. Their heads turned towards us for a moment, and then they all turned away, disappearing back into the woods. I glanced back to you and simply said.-

”I'll ensure you get the pelt and antlers.”

-I took up the crossbow and bolts before turning away, it was time to head back....-

says to .V O L S T A G G of the : My eyes never wavered from the man as the arrow sliced into him. He was the target and the arrow bit into him with force enough to break through the cage of ribs. He fell backwards, hands groping for the arrow protruding from his body. I watched him struggle with it a moment, the line of my lips pressed together in silence. The expression upon my face was merely blank. The profile of a pretty face was given to you, notably lacking any signs of remorse. For there were none. There was no right or wrong in that moment just a decision and I made it without need of thought.

Your words would draw me from that quiet place in my mind to the here and now. And slowly my face would turn towards you and vagrant of a smile trepassed upon my lips, the graceful line of jaw elongated as a dainty chin pulled upwards in a short clip. Though it was cosian blood running through my veins, my heart was entirely Sulportian.

"Thank you, Volstagg."

For the lesson, for the compliment, and for so many things that didn't need spoken to be known. I stood as you did, the bow hanging in my right hand along my side. Your whistle sounded and my gaze turned back towards that field questioningly but in that single glance there was the revelation. An entire field of berserkers suddenly stepped from the shadow of the line of trees to haunt the land with their presence. I was surprised to see them but voiced nothing, nor would I ask about them. If I knew one thing about you, it was that there was purpose for everything and time would reveal it...... I turned to follow you back to Sulport and thought on the pelt and antlers...
