Is at the market, a large open square of stalls in the heart of Sulport. Vendors flock around you trying to sell the many different and exotic wares on offer.

says to ALL: The morning sun was bright and despite the golden rays that filtered down over the paver stones of the city, the air was brisk. I appreciated more, the cloak that wrapped me in its warm embrace. The hood was drawn, providing a shelter from the breeze that tickled cold fingertips over my face. The sculpted lines of cheeks flushed warm in that frigid embrace.

I sat alone at one of the tables in the cafe at the heart of the market. Bare hands wrapped a ceramic cup, absorbing the warmth as much as possible. As I lifted the cup the heat of the liquid enveloped my lips and I took the smallest sip. For the moment I paid no mind to anyone. Embracing the silence that seemed to cling at such an ahn, I would do nothing to take away from the solace of it. For the moment, my mind too held the white static of nothing. Eyes of palest green stared vacantly across the market, watching a various vendors were beginning to open their boothes.

says to ALL: It was not long until a slave appeared carrying a domed covered platter. She was dressed in a light cloak that drafted the curves of her body. There was a nervousness that setteled over her face as she neared my table. With a single hand she balanced the platter upon her fingertips and the other carefully drew the lapels of her cloak modestly. I could see all of this and more from my periphory as she approached. My eyes remained fixed as I set the cup to the table and motioned with my right hand for the platter to be placed upon the table before me. The girl slid the platter to the tables surface and moved to lift the dome. As she did, my own hand snaked out abruptly to cover the handle, blocking her efforts.

"That is all."

My fingers curled over the handle like a shield and through this all, my gaze remained fixed straight ahead. Never once did I look upon her. Her face fell in that moment, head bowed forward as she backed away from my table. I would wait for that pattern of silence to resume in her absence, only then lifting the domed-covering to reveal the contents of the tray.

says to ALL: A single plate sat upon the tray, centered between a folded napkin of rep and an eating prong. I adjust these accordingly, taking the prong delicately between the thumb and forefinger of my left hand. The rep-cloth was snapped free of its precise folding to skirt my lap, held at the corner by the curled fingers of my right hand. My gaze traveled once to food, noting the small variety. Eggs had been scrambled and lay to one left side of the plate. A fruit medley and piece of bread shared the remaining portion of the right.

A piece of the eggs was forked into my mouth. The eggs were protein, nourishment to fuel my body and nothing more. I would not allow myself to think that I was eating the fetus of an unborn animal. In an effort to distract from such thoughts, my mind began to wander back over the past few days of events. I could hear the humming lyric of the bow and almost feel the recoil of the string and the sight of an arrow in flight. I ate steadily, thinking of the moment of impact and within a few breaths, the eggs were finished.

My attention turned to the fruit. Sweet and delicious, sliced into bite-sized morsels that I picked at one small piece at a time. It seemed to have been sweetened with honey and this I enjoyed silently but the pleasure of it was read in the softening of pretty features.

says to ALL: From plate to mouth went every single piece of fruit. Each bite was chewed slowly and with thought now. Never before, had a meal been taken with such consideration. Not everyone had such a meal and there were some who had nothing. My teeth pierced the fruit with every bite, the sweet flavor slid along my tongue and with it I tasted saddness.

This emotion was not revealed but none the less, it was felt. Perfect was my posture, the fork lifted with such careful precision from the plate to my mouth. Demure bites were taken, timed so that the meal was not rushed. Once there was nothing left of the fruit, I placed the eating prong upon the platter and took the biscuit with both hands. It was small and near flat, but I broke it into several smaller pieces and began to eat it as well. I would not leave the table until it was all gone. Every bite.

says to ALL: I was not impressed by the biscuit. It was neither moist nor hot. Instead, it was hard and fell to crumbles with every touch. In my mouth, it was dry and hard to swallow. And still, I ate it. The broken pieces felt like ash against my tongue, leaving my mouth to feel as though I had eaten sand. The fullness of my lips curved into a grimace, solemn eyes settled upon the cup of tea. Once I'd swallowed the last piece of bread, I claimed the cup of tea quickly to wash away the evidence of it.

The brew was still hot, scalding my lips and tongue as I gulped it down. The burn crawled down my throat with every swallow and yet it was scarcely felt. Only in the last swallow did I realize the tea had been sweetened too, my mouth now tasted faintly of the honey. I stared into the bottom of the empty cup for a moment, before sitting it to the platter and covering it and its contents once more with the domed lid.

I rose from the table slowly. The repcloth was used to wipe my fingers and dab each corner of my mouth before ceremoniously laid to drape over the dome-covered platter. My fingers rested atop it for a moment before I withdrew, turning my back to the table and walked away.
