The Universe is Convulsing

The Doctor stood staring at the blinking light in front of him, perplexed. He scratched at the back of his head with his long fingers and frowned, then smiled, then frowned again. It didn't seem to matter what facial expression he made...something was wrong. He pursed his lips in consternation, then in amusement. No results from that either. "Hmmhm," he said and tipped his head, putting his goggles back in place. He poked a button he'd never seen before and cried out in surprise as electricity arched out from it and flew toward the wall. He ducked and stood with a swoop of brunette hair and wide green eyes. "Well, that's a surprise!" he said with a grin, pulling the goggles off and tossing them over his shoulder. Useless.

He stood and stared at the column of light, perplexed. "Pear-shaped, that's what it is, plain and simple. Pear-shaped. I'm not sure what that means, but it's rather bad."

Rory stood well behind the Doctor, having decided that distance was best. At least for now. Rory crossed his arms and leaned against the rail, "So it's pear-shaped. And bad," He said, watching the Doctor. He stole a glance at Amy, wondering what she was thinking. His mouth thinned into a line when he looked back to the console. "How bad, exactly?"

Amy had been standing on the other side of the control panel when the electricity arced across the room. She gripped the edge of the console and dropped to a crouch, only peering over from around the buttons and levels when the Doctor spoke again. Her eyes narrowed.

"Doctor? What's wrong?" She asked, standing slowing and stepping around, but not fully, best not to get hit with what ever just happened, should the Tardis decide to repeat the action. She finally moved to stand beside the Doctor. Not that she would understand what he was fiddling with.

"Something is...leaking," he said, as he ran his eyes down from the column of the TARDIS and to Amy's face. He gave her a small, unconvincing smile. "And when I say...leaking...Amy, Rory," he looked to the male Pond and gave that same, weirdly unconvincing smile. His hands were folded in front of him as he rocked up on the balls of his feet a bit. "I mean really...gushing. We are sort of...kind of...well, we're in trouble. Big...trouble." He turned toward the control panel. "When I mean 'we', I mean the Earth, really..."

He stood too hard on the edge of his shoe and tipped over, nearly falling on the control panel. He caught Amy for support before he went completely arse over tea-cup.

Rory straightened up, "Leaking? Well, where is it leaking from?" If the Doctor knew it was leaking, surely he knew where it was leaking from and then they could just go fix it, couldn't they? "Well, let's go patch it then." Surely the solution could be that simple, Rory reassured himself. They'd go and patch it and Earth would no longer be in danger. Even as he was telling it to himself, Rory knew it couldn't possibly be that simple. Things were never simple with the Doctor. But of course, they wouldn't be with the Doctor if all they wanted was 'simple'.

Amy, by now had developed quick-enough reflexes to anticipate the Doctor's lack of a proper relationship with coordination, grabbing the Doctor by his upper arms, holding him steady.

"Try not to break anything else on her Doc'ter." She quipped. At her husband's suggestion she looked over the Doctor's shoulder at him and rolled her eyes. She loved him dearly but sometimes he stated things he knew clearly were ridiculous. No, if something was wrong, really, really wrong, the Doctor would be upset, and she could tell, he was. She looked at her friend, trying to offer a convincing smile. "What can we do to help?"

"Thank you Amy," he said as she helped him stay upright. He brushed her shoulders off as if her helping him stand had left a bit of cosmic space dust on her shoulders. Which, it may well have done. He had no idea, just seemed like the right thing to do. It was then, that Rory's comment snapped into place in his brain like a giant, annoying jig-saw piece. He stalked down the stairs toward his male companion and got right in his face, an amused smirk on his face as he tilted his head.

"Rory...you don't 'patch up' leaks like this," he said with a frown. "We can't pop off to the local market and pick up some pan-dimensional duct-tape," he put the emphasis on the last 't' of 'duct'. "Don't be silly," he smacked Rory on the head gently with the bit of plastic piping he'd acquired from the floor when he'd almost gone down. "No...we need a plan," he said, climbing the stairs again and sitting on the jump seat, his leg at a 90-degree angle to the floor, the pipe balanced on his shoe as he thought. He did this for several moments, then looked between the humans expectantly.

"Well, who has a plan?"

Rory grumbled a bit under his breath, rubbing his head where the Doctor'd hit him. That was a bit out of line. Rory's idea hadn't exactly been brilliant, but sometimes the simple and most obvious solution is best. He didn't really see why they couldn't fix the leak. Granted, Rory didn't really understand where it was leaking or what was leaking out of it. But if something can break or rupture enough to be leaking, there had to be some way to close it.

Rory moved to stand by Amy, looking from her to the Doctor. Rory could then tell just how serious this situation was. He wasn't great at reading the Doctor, but he'd known Amy since they were kids and he could tell that she was tense and that this was a far more dangerous situation than a simple leakage issue.

"What exactly is leaking?" He asked.

Amy was tense, without knowing what exactly was their problem, only that the Doctor was upset, ergo she was upset. Because if her normally aloof friend found something to be a problem then so did she. Well, something that fell under time-and-space or 'Doctor, please help' categories, respectively.

"Pan-Dimensional duct tape?" She inquired, putting the clues together from what she learned from her travels. "The universe is bleeding together?" At least that's what made sense to her. She felt Rory bump shoulders with her and slipped her hand in his, giving it a squeeze of reassurance. "Why do I feel like that's happened before?" She asked, looking over to the Doctor. It probably hadn't. Or it had and the Doctor had fixed everything and it all had been reset, yes, that was always more likely. If that were the case, wouldn't she remember? Being so close to the schism or however the Doctor had explained it before.

"Yes, exactly like it's bleeding. Exactly like that, except not at all," he said waving a finger in her face. "No, no it's more like...when you put a pin to a water-balloon...do you see? No, probably not..." His hands fell back to his side and he pressed a button on the control panel. The TARDIS wheezed and groaned. "But, when life hands you water balloons...poke them with pins, that's what I always say." He paused and furrowed his brow. "No...no that's not how that goes."

He pulled a lever and the control room shook. "When life hands you water balloons, get your feet wet!" He exclaimed happily as the entire TARDIS tipped as if it was falling over. He gripped the panel as his feet flew out from under him. "WOWSA!"
