Exterior Minister Peiraias entered his office after his latest meeting with Anax Kerameikos and sat down behind his desk. Almost immediately, he glanced up at the map hanging on his wall. He found it almost ironic that the majority of his attention was always drawn to the western side of the map, across the ocean from Achaian Peloponnese; one would think that he and his subordinates would be paying more attention to the territory around them, especially with the messy situation beginning in their own hemisphere. But that same situation was the reason that Peiraias and Kerameikos were putting so much hope in the other side of the world: They could not bring themselves to trust anyone currently living on this side of it.

At the moment, the minister’s attention fell on Nopalia. It was a larger-than-usual nation, making it very prominent on the map, and it had also had a very short history of international discussions; the current problem with pirates in the region proved to be the first time that the Office of Observation and Communication had picked up Nopalian activity at all. Of course, the Office of Observation and Communication was a very new office that was still coming to terms with its designated role, so there was no telling how much it had missed in the past. Nonetheless, Nopalia had only come to Achaian Peloponnese’s attention very recently. And Peiraias was determined to make sure that, if Achaian Peloponnese came to Nopalia’s attention, it would make a good impression.

“We can’t wait for more allies,” he murmured as he pulled out a pen and a sheet of stationery. “But I hope this doesn’t come across as pushy…”

To the Nation of Nopalia:
The Dictatorship of Achaian Peloponnese sends Greetings!

On behalf of Anax Kerameikos, ruler of Achaian Peloponnese, his Minister of the Exterior, Peiraias, invites any representative of the government of Nopalia to join our own diplomats at the Megaron, in Kerkyra, to discuss friendly diplomatic ties in these troubled times. We look forward to the honor of hosting your diplomatic party.

Signed with hope for a future friendship:

Peiraias
Minister of the Exterior
Achaian Peloponnese

Minister of International Peace talks Aaron Kindley and Observation and Communication Minister John Nat shook hands then sat down

K: What is on the agenda
N: Just a letter from the Minister of the Exterior out in Achaian
K: What do they need?
N: They want to become allies
K: I need to let the president know about this right away, allies may be a great thing to have right now. Our developing nation needs support
(Kindley gets up, goes to the phone and talks with the President, then sits back down)
K: Mr. Vakrosh gave the go ahead to become allies, but if they engage in any major wars, we would have to pull out, our country is to young to engage
N: I will send out a letter right away
President Vakrosh of Nopalia

Ambassador Skyros and his assistants watched from the floor-to-ceiling windows of Anax Anafiotika Airport in Kerkyra as the flight from Nopalia touched down. It was early afternoon, and the ambassador was grateful that, despite his job description, he was being offered this chance to negotiate from the comfort of home. The Nopalian delegation would probably have had to leave very early in the morning in order to reach Achaian Peloponnese at the time that they did, while Skyros had the benefit of a good night’s sleep.

Skyros watched as the plane came to a stop and the waiting technicians rushed forward to service it, including the group towing the portable staircase to the plane’s passenger hatch. The ambassador took that as his cue, and turned away from the window. “Time to earn our pay,” he said with a smile at his associates, walking briskly toward the exit in order to greet the Nopalian delegation. Skyros quickly emerged into the afternoon sun and waited for the negotiator from Nopalia to appear from the plane.
