“Thank the supposedly-uninterested audience,” snarled Kifisia, “considering that there was literally no ‘squabbling’ happening at all until the observers started accusing us of it. For those nations actually taking part in this summit, we had a short discussion, came to an agreement, and waited for our fellows to respond. Every single part of this ‘squabble’ has been thrown at us from outsiders who have no interest in joining our pact, who nonetheless believe that they are entitled to dictate what the pact should and should not include, and are apparently determined to sabotage the entire purpose of our meeting for their own political agendas.” Minister Peiraias shook his head. “They declare that our policies are misguided, but then refuse to give us clarification because it isn’t their job? One would think that it would be in their best interests to explain how our policies and theirs could be better reconciled. If they aren’t interested in doing that, then they have no right or reason to complain when we determine our own way.” Basileus Kifisia glared at the door. “Nonetheless, I will be sure to remember that diplomatic ‘politeness,’ according to the Valkanians, involves insulting fellow diplomats who are not even talking to or about them. If the idiot hadn’t noticed, I was specifically responding to the accusations from the representative from Starliza; but apparently Valkany is free to take offense on behalf of half the world—and to offend the other half as it suits them.” [OOC: Post #45, from Gilead: “Patrick McCormick audibly sighed as he noted the current arguments.” At that point, there were literally no “current arguments,” since the last objection had come from the UCSS, who had promptly left the meeting entirely. An observer invented a dispute, the other observers ran with it, and the entire summit was effectively sabotaged by outsiders. It couldn’t have worked better if they’d planned it, honestly.] |

(OOC: Makes sense.) "Well, at least two of us are going to be a part of this. That means that 2/3 of the people I expected to sign are. Therefore, as far as I'm concerned, this has been successful. " |

Minister Peiraias forced himself to smile and nod, while he privately wanted to grimace at the thought of a two-nation ‘alliance’ that had, in effect, already been negotiated between the two nations in question. “If that is the case, we might do well to sign the document now,” he said. “If other nations find this pact to be to their liking, there will be nothing to hinder them from joining us at a later date. But for now, I would like to avoid another unnecessary interruption while we have the opportunity.” The minister picked up his pen. “May I?” Edited by Mastropa, May 20 2014, 08:02 PM.

"You may. Medai will have to have it's Senate approve the document, but I doubt anyone will have any problems with it." The President got a message on his tablet. He pulled it out and read it. "Senate approved it," he said as he pulled out a pen and signed it. |

Minister Peiraias nodded and signed the document in front of him, while beside him Basileus Kifisia began gathering their few possessions in preparation to leave. “Anax Kerameikos has authorized me to act in his name,” the minister explained, “and he has already agreed to any agreement here that will provide for and support Achaian neutrality. With that in mind, my signature in his place is binding.” The minister stood from his seat and extended his hand to President Freeland. “While I cannot claim that this was an enjoyable experience for us, I am at least pleased to have contributed to a document symbolizing our continued cooperation. And I can assure you that we will not simply leave it at this, either,” Peiraias added. “Achaian Peloponnese will promote this agreement in the course of its usual diplomatic discussions with other nations, in the hopes that still more nations can be persuaded to join us in defense of our mutual neutrality.” The minister smiled and did his best to hide his disappointment with the summit’s outcome. ‘At the very least,’ he thought in frustration, ‘it was educational to learn just which nations understand discussion, and which are just going to stick their fingers in their ears.’ |

"Yeah, I was hoping that some of the people who were observing would become interested and return to join. I don't think that'll happen though. Nevertheless, I hope to see it grow too, and I hope this will help make us better friends," said the President. He shook the person's hand. "Oh, and out of curiosity, what does Anax mean? Like, does it have a translation, or is it just a title?" |

The minister’s smile was more genuine now as President Freeland moved to small talk; he agreed that they might as well have some friendly banter to lighten up the mood. “It is a title,” Peiraias answered. “Even we are no longer certain of its original meaning; we lost a great deal of knowledge during our Unification, sadly. However, at least one tribe in the Peloponnese prior to that time was led by an ‘anax,’ and it was one of these leaders, Vyronas, who took the lead in pushing foreign invaders out of the Peloponnese and unifying the rest of the tribes under his leadership. The leader of the Achaians has retained the title ever since.” Peiraias frowned as he considered the current political situation. “The anax is a military leader,” he added. “It would be remiss of me to leave you ignorant of this fact. If, despite all of our efforts, the war were to arrive on Peloponnesian soil, Anax Kerameikos would take to the field in the first rank. His death would be highly likely. I want to assure you that our political process—and our general attitude toward the international community—will survive the death of any one anax, even if that anax dies without heirs, as Kerameikos might well do. Should there be no designated successor, the ministers and basileis will select one upon his death.” The minister smiled grimly. “Achaian Peloponnese does not like crises, but it has survived its share, even if its leaders have not.” Basileus Kifisia stood as well. “President Freeland,” she began, “I would like to reiterate that my nation appreciates and enjoys its current friendship with your own. In the future, there might be many men and women who wear the title of ‘anax,’ but all of them will continue to consider Medai very fondly indeed.” |

((OOC: Hmm, I wanted to have my delegation be a blunder on purpose to work it into my civil war arc but now I'm unsure how to continue as time dilation would dictate that... the civil war might still be going on at this time. Hmm.)) The captain had received quite a colorful recital as he had returned to the car from Anderson, however upon being informed by the driver that he had received a message, he ignored the man and went to read it. With confirmation that the civil war was over, he lent in and nodded at their personal UCSS guard, who quickly pulled Anderson into the limo and pistol whipped him in the head. The captain shut the door and politely asked the driver to wait a while longer and to contact their plane at the airport saying they didn't need to worry anymore. After a short explanation to the guards, captain Khmer was luckily allowed to re-enter. Upon entering the room he bowed "I am extremely sorry for my behavior and that of my now ex-counterpart in these negotiations. With great shame I must inform you that our country has only recently had a switch in government due to absurd amounts of corruption and embezzlement poisoning the government and in turn the country. My 'partner' here was the only lower member of parliament suspected of high corruption who we didn't have proof on, luring him out of the country was a pretext to raid his house..." The captain continued for a short while, running through a short list of events that had happened in the nation. "Maybe it's a positive twist of fate all the observers left before the UCSS was able to stop mucking about with internal affairs." The captain bowed once more. "We beg your forgiveness for making a mockery of your meeting, however the Queen and rightful ruler is very much so interested and hoping for such an alliance as our internationally immature nation takes it's first steps into the world theater. We would be immensely grateful if you overlooked our little sting operation and reconsidered letting us sign. I believe our strength is fair for a nation our size and that our people would be proud to share their strength to protect the innocent's right to peace and to intimidate those who would seek to consume others for material gain." The Captain stood in an attentive pose and the thought came through his head that he might have wanted to pace that out, however his personality fit his nation fairly well. Concerning the safeguarding of the most precious resource of all, the populace, no time should be wasted. Formalities come after. |

Peiraias and Kifisia looked from the returning general to President Freeland, and finally looked at each other. “Perhaps it is a little early for us to be leaving just yet,” Peiraias said finally, retaking his seat. As the basileus took her seat beside him, the minister said to the general of the UCSS, “We, at least, are not about to complain about an additional participant in this agreement. Indeed, we would be very pleased to welcome another friend to the table.”

The President was amused and surprised by what was happening. However, he said, "I'm not sure what to think of that. However, we are glad to see that another nation is interested." He went back to his seat and started by asking "Do you have any questions or concerns about the document we presented you?" |

((I know for a fact that I've responded to this before! I swear this forum's programming hates me!)) Princess Aurora sighed as her hand servant finished closing up the back of her dress. She was late, but her flight had been delayed. She bounded out of her room, eager to not completely miss the summit. She'd already sent a not ahead, so hopefully they weren't worried. Dear Representatives of the Nuetrality Summit: Flight delayed, but not canceled. Expect the representative of Vinland to be a bit late. |

The captain had stepped to the side to answer his phone, he swiftly stepped back in towards the table. "Queen Charlotte Lordran of the UCSS, as the head of state and representitive of all Izalithians has informed me to sign this treaty in her place." he quickly sat down and set to work. He then turned to the Achaians at the table and gave a slight nod. "You may be interested to know that representatives of your country are currently in the UCSS, apparently everything is going well so far." the captain was done with his part in putting the UCSS into the treaty and sat back. "I'm sorry I'm not exactly diplomatic material, but I assure you, if you're talking to someone in uniform from my nation, it means we're taking you seriously. Sadly it doesn't help the etiquette much though." The captain sat and gave a firm nod. "The UCSS will not stand idly by as innocent civilians are put in danger by the whims and desires of the mad, parasitic and greedy. If they will not acknowledge the strength of those desiring peace, then their ambitions and aspirations shall be put to the test against our resolve." It appeared the UCSS wasn't so much signing for protection of the self, but out of desire to maintain global order and protect civilians. As a theocratic iron fisted nation, this was to be expected. At least the captain hoped he got that across. |

Basileus Kifisia smiled and nodded to Captain Khmer. “Achaian Peloponnese is always looking for friends,” she said, “and I am glad to hear that we have found one in the UCSS. I certainly expect our negotiations to move forward smoothly, and I’m sure Minister Peiraias would agree with me.” ‘Well, he would agree with me if he hadn’t mysteriously flown back home while no one was looking,’ she amended silently. “Regarding this treaty specifically, as I am here to make my nation’s circumstances safer, I am grateful for your nation’s determination to add your strength to ours and preserve the peace.” |
