Anax Kerameikos glanced at the message in his hand. “If Peiraias returns tomorrow, he’ll need five weeks to determine exactly what he’s missed so far,” he murmured. “How much more will occur in his absence?” Kypseli shrugged. “The minister is capable of learning the basics of every scenario on short notice when the situation demands it,” he said. “This will be no different.” “True enough,” the anax said. “And I suppose there’s nothing particularly worrisome about this message; considering the bureaucracy involved, and the fact that membership of this organization includes nations currently causing the situation that Legantus is so worried about, there’s every chance that this meeting will be nothing but talk and mutual recriminations. Still, I would very much like to see this Union charter. This looks like the opportunity to learn what this fabled ‘Union of Nations’ is really about, both on paper and in reality.” He put the message down and reached for his stationery. “I’ll send an ambassador as an observer,” he decided. “Based on how this meeting goes and what the charter for the Union actually involves, I might be persuaded to sign the document myself.” Kypseli frowned. “I know that we have been moving away from our previous isolation very quickly lately,” he said cautiously, “but isn’t it a little soon to be tying ourselves to any binding international bureaucracy? At the moment, our only serious attempt at organizing at the international level is a neutrality agreement meant specifically to keep us out of other people’s business. This, on the other hand…” Kerameikos shook his head. “As I said, it depends on what the Union really is,” he said. “There could be benefits to joining the organization that outweigh everything else. But there is no way to know whether or not that is true without sending someone to this meeting to discover the truth of the matter.” He shrugged. “I honestly do not believe that this Union of Nations will prove to be anything more than hot air. This is only the first meeting of the organization, after all, and as far as I have been led to believe, the formation of this Union occurred only months before the outbreak of the war; clearly circumstances changed in a hurry for those nations who signed the document only to violate its spirit so soon afterward. The member nations themselves will still be learning exactly what membership means to them, and to Noverra. It will be in our best interests to learn along with them, whether or not we join the Union ourselves, so that we know, just as well as they do, if and how this organization will change the face of international diplomacy.” The anax handed Basileus Kypseli the finished notice and said, “Send it out right away.” “Yes, sir.”

"Irwin, I have an assignment for you," said President Amsel to Secretary of State Oesterle, handing him the message from the Legantians. Secretary Oesterle read it over, then responded, "I'll get on the first flight to Legantus tomorrow, Mr. President. We've been pretty busy with foreign relations lately, but stronger ties couldn't hurt." "Exactly," said Amsel, "I'm sure Victorium will be prominently discussed as well. Be sure to convey our concerns over the situation. Austiana just gives me a really bad feeling for what may happen to us."

War Command – Ministry of Security Hamunaptra HICM Emperor Charles I breaks out into laughter upon reading a hasty given letter. “They suggest we’re illegitimate,” Charles exclaims. Everyone else in the room, the Directors of the Imperial Air Force, Naval Service, Dawinian Army, Dawinian Security Service, and Guarda Real, sat quiet, not really knowing how to proceed. “Your Majesty, can we try to think seriously for once,” questioned Dawinian Army Director, Adrian Andlez. Charles immediately stops laughing, throwing the most hate-filled stare towards Adrian. “If not for the respect and admiration I have for you, Adrian, I would have you killed for your comment.” Charles sighs, returning to his seat, setting the document on the table, as Adrian averts his eyes and stars towards the table. “The Union of Nations; The Sham of The Hedonist Nations sounds more correct.” Charles continues. The room erupts in laughter, dying down when Charles puts his hand up. “Even though I hate everything this “union” stands for, I will allocate an ambassador to make the journey; the last thing we need is to further upset the world right now. We must save that for later.” The room nods with agreement, while Security Service Director Lorenzo Kallán inquires to the Emperor. “Your Majesty, if I may be so bold, but I would like to suggest someone to act as ambassador.” “You may; go ahead.” “I wish to suggest that Amaranta Estévez to attend. I believe you are aware of her credentials, yes?” Charles did know of Amaranta’s occupational jacket. She served as Director of The Royal Archives for two years, moving up to Deputy Minister of The Crown, in a very short time span; people were always suspicious that Charles had a hand in it, so to speak. In fact, he knew a lot of her behind closed doors. When Charles heard the suggestion, he was relieved that someone else did, so that no more connections would be made, or at least slow them down. “Yes, I have seen them.” Charles gives a thoughtful look to the group, pretending that he’s thinking of other candidates. “Very well. It is so ordered that Sra. Estévez will serve as Dawinian Ambassador to the Union of Nations. Let it be known to her and the Foreign Ministry, Lorenzo,” Charles responded. “Right away, Your Majesty,” Lorenzo replied, smiling. Somewhere in Auvernia “Your Majesty. You have a letter,” said one of the Imperial Guards that escaped with Antonio. “Thank you,” Antonio responded, placing the letter next to him. As the guard leaves the room, Antonio continues to read up on current events, on his computer, and intercepted communiqués between Dawinian Ministries; even away, Antonio still had his ways. He finally takes pause and looks at the letter that arrived for him, noticing the Legantian flag on the outside. After reading the invitation to attend the meeting of the Union of Nations, Antonio quickly goes to respond, thinking that he can further his case to the international community and, perhaps, gain assistance from more nations. However, as he begins to write a reply, a highly secure message arrives on his computer. The message, from his most trusted aide Angelina, explained that she was safe and sends her thoughts to Antonio. Although, the main explanation was that she was going to attend the Union of Nations meeting in place of Antonio, “for your safety, as you’re supposed to be dead.” Antonio sighs, relieved. He then starts to compose a reply. To the Legantian State Department; From Emperor Charles I To the Legantian State Department; From C.P. Antonio Edited by Colcintra, May 17 2014, 10:01 AM.

CHANCELLOR'S RESIDENCE, SOUTH CASTRATENE "The premise of the letter is that we are illegitimate, yet they invite us to attend?" Klink shook his head, "And look, they even spelt 'whether' wrong, are you sure this is from the Legantium State Department?" Klink had read through the short communique twice, analyzing it's contents while sipping on his ginger ale. "Yes sir." Klink's youthful secretary said, nodding. Gustav Klink liked to think of himself as a man of reason. Klink wanted so desperately to snub the conference, to leave their petty talks and have no one present to represent Austiana. But he knew too well that the UN conference would speak about Austiana, and that friendly eyes and ears needed to be there. And a voice, also. "Send my Foreign Deputy, Heinrich Swichkoffen." Klink nodded, "Have him be prepared, and also get him to reply to the Legantian communique with one of our own. Give him this copy." Klink handed the adviser the folded communique and continued to sip on his ginger ale, sitting on his leather seat watching his fire burn.

The Valkanian diplomatic plane arrived in Legantium. The Valkanian delegation walked out with a large security staff, receiving formal honours and quickly boarding a heavily armored and guarded limo. The security of the Emperor and Prime Minister was Valkany's first concern. | ||||

The Paceum Complex Legantium, The Republic of Legantus Marcus Policipia stood, fidgeting, in the entryway to the complex. In addition to the nervousness that was to be expected in being the host to the first official meeting of the world’s first truly all-inclusive world organization, he had recently found out the intern who had turned his (Admittedly rather illegible) first draft of the invitation into an actual electronic document had both not actually paid much attention to what he wrote and had written in several incorrect terms, and had forgotten to use the wonderful invention known as “Spellcheck” and consequently had several spelling mistakes. Needless to say, the intern didn’t work at the State Department anymore. However, the majority of the “major players” in the world had agreed to come to this meeting. For better or worse, it was now a waiting game. Who actually showed up would dictate how much could be done. Marcus continued to fidget as he waited. |

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elizabeth Hendricks, landed in Legantus. She was Medai's representative to the Union of Nations. She got out of the plane and into a car, ignoring the reporters that wanted to ask her questions. She then drove to the meeting place. She got out of the car when she arrived. She walked up to the man who was waiting and shook his hand. "Hello, I'm Minister Hendricks of Medai." |

Ambassador Delos jotted down notes as the diplomatic car made its way through Legantium toward the Paceum Complex. Occasionally he would glance up at the passing scenery, taking as much notice of the cityscape as possible as he tried to develop as clear and complete a picture of this nation as he could. Legantus’s republican values had dissuaded Anax Kerameikos from attempting to establish diplomatic ties with this nation; various sources had warned the anax away from even suggesting it. It was Delos’s job to determine if that early determination on the anax’s part had been either unfortunately premature or sadly accurate. Indeed, Delos wondered if this might be the only thing that he could accomplish for Achaian Peloponnese today. He was present only as an outside observer, and regardless of the reports he had heard about the participation of observers in the last summit attended by Achaian representatives, he had already decided that he would speak only if spoken to, or if the gathered diplomats chose to move against the interests of Achaian Peloponnese—something that few, if any, nations represented at the meeting would have any reason to consider. More importantly, though, Delos had already written off the meeting’s intended purpose because, as of the latest update he had received from the Office of Observation and Communication, the war in Victorium was all but over. Dawinia and Austiana had both undergone yet another regime change; both nations had indicated that they were pursuing more moderate policies for the future. That was not to say that this meeting would be completely superfluous, of course. Despite the changes that were soon to come, the fighting had not yet technically stopped; moreover, the gathered representatives would no doubt have a number of concerns about the post-war social and political situation in Victorium that the entire international community would be expected to discuss. Delos looked forward to watching the representatives debate these various issues, especially since this gathering was expected to include representatives from the very nations that were largely blamed for beginning the war in the first place. With the downfall of the hard-line fascist leaders in these recent weeks, would the rest of the world look more kindly toward these representatives, or would Noverra continue to hold a grudge? Achaian Peloponnese’s diplomatic strategy might change radically depending on the answer to that question. As the car turned onto a private drive, the ambassador put his notebook away and turned his attention fully onto the Paceum Complex looming above him. It was a grand complex, representative of a grand nation, and the ambassador found himself hoping that Legantus might be much more receptive toward diplomatic ties with Achaian Peloponnese than the Megaron had been led to believe. Delos allowed himself a faint smile of anticipation as the car pulled to a stop within sight of two officials already making small talk at the door. There was only one way to find out. |

A long vehicle that looked like a mix between a limousine and an armored transport, little Izalithian flags fluttering from the bonnet, pulled up behind another car in front of the Paceum Complex. A door on the side opened firmly as two large armored figures stepped out, followed by a feminine figure in a black uniform, Miorill Azu from the OEA, and then by a much shorter female with platinum blonde hair trailing down her back in a braid. The queen was wearing a smart black pencil skirt, smart flat soled shoes and suit jacket. She looked a little odd, evidently they weren't very sure of the dress code for such a meeting. Although instead of a shirt she appeared to have strands of silk and silver twirling across her upper chest under the jacket and up her neck. On her collar bones was a rather large pendant of a silver spider that looked like it was trying to hold onto her throat. Placed in it's thorax was a large red ruby which could have only come from one place. She was followed out by her third and final guard, who's uniform was slightly more elaborate than the other two, he was evidently the captain of the royal guard. The delegation quickly flanked the queen who took a few steps forward and then stopped. "The air... smells a little artificial here." she then turned her head to the car that had stopped before them, looking for any symbols to indicate the owner. Charlotte knew that few world leaders would actually attend the first meeting, sadly that was just the state of affairs with their world. However Izalith needed an opportunity to be represented on a global stage and she knew she couldn't hide away forever if they were ever going to be taken seriously. |
