"Well, that was odd," said one of Emmanuel's deputies. "Indeed," he replied, turning to walk back. What on earth, he thought, as he felt something move in his pocket. He reached in and pulled out a note. This wasn't here before. As he read it, a smile crept across his face. "I see," he said. "What is it," the other men asked. "Nothing," he said, "he was just letting us know they care." Being ever precautious (and paranoid), Emmanuel tore up the note before slipping the pieces back into his pocket, but he made sure to keep an eye on the Valkanian delegation for the rest of the meeting. |

The Queen curtsied toward the Emperor, with a small smile she replied "That is correct, Emperor Antonio, sadly you're easy to recognize in comparison to one such as myself." The Queen silently looked around the room and back toward the door, they really should be entering soon. However a major world player had taken an opportunity to speak with her, it was certainly worth striking up a conversation with the Emperor, even if it was short. After all the Achaian delegation had raced off to chat up the Rusnya delegation, so she didn't really have anything else to do until the UN meeting started. |

Antonio returned her greeting with a bow, then responding. "Well, I hope it's good that you could." Antonio smiles. "And it is nice to finally make your acquaintance, Your Majesty. Your reputation has proceeded you, from many of my dignitaries who have traveled to your nation. And it's all good things, I assure you." |

Oesterle smiled back at Delos, "Ah yes, we could certainly accept gems as a form of payment in trade. We'd just need to have them at the exact trade value, but I don't foresee any issues converting them to cash through sale on the market. "As for your need for a friendship for a nation in Victorium, we would most certainly love to accept your hand in a partnership. You possess a strategic trade route, as do we, and I can foresee a productive partnership because of that. I would also be interested in your relationship with the Izalithans and how they may play a role in our potential partnership? We haven't exactly gotten to know them too well, but the vibe they give off certainly isn't a warm one." |

Delos shrugged. “Izalith is a nation with a great deal of pride,” he said. “I have personally only dealt with them at this meeting, but my superiors in the Megaron have explained the situation more fully to me. Anax Kerameikos decided that it was necessary to forge a relationship with Izalith as soon as he was alerted to their presence, and as Izalith remains our closest neighbor, we have no desire to weaken that relationship by any means. Nonetheless, if there had not been that sense of necessity behind our negotiations, or at least on the Achaian side, it is possible that we would not be in our current alliance.” The ambassador smiled again. “Despite that, Izalith is a strong nation with its own desires and goals. I cannot speak for a nation and a government that is not mine, but I can at least tell you that negotiations with Izalith are not as difficult as they at first appear. After all, Queen Charlotte herself has come to this international meeting; that can only mean that she wants to be noticed. I believe she would not turn any worthwhile negotiation away. “All that said,” Delos continued, “just as I cannot speak for Izalith, Izalith cannot speak for Achaian Peloponnese. Our alliance is determined by proximity and the strong possibility of future trade between ourselves, but it does not preclude either of our nations from entering into relationships with other nations. Of course,” Delos quickly added, “the anax would like to see friendships forming between all of those nations that are friendly with Achaian Peloponnese, and we will encourage it if possible. There are indeed a number of advantages to mutual agreements developed in tandem, as opposed to agreements developed piecemeal over the course of several different individual negotiations.” The ambassador nodded. “I will be happy to introduce you to Queen Charlotte, if you desire. Perhaps at the conclusion of this meeting, once the world has determined the political shape of Victorium, we can speak again to create a more solid plan for our future relationship.” |

Despite the fact that Emmanuel hated almost everyone here, he decided to make his acquaintance. Perhaps I'll be able to con some of these people for future services, he thought. He walked over to the new Dawinian emperor, who was talking to a young girl--whom, by her appearance, he judged was the Queen of Izalith that he had been hearing about. He waited until he thought they were both done speaking and said, "Your Majesties--I hope I'm not interrupting--I'd just like to introduce myself. I'm Emmanuel Kokinos, Speaker of the Chamber-in-exile of the Democratic Socialist Republic of New Vasconia." |

After entering the summit room and taking their his seat, along with his delegation, the Crown Prince marveled around at the many nations being represented. This meeting including more than the founding meeting at the Ministerial House. He decided to go speak to Queen Charlotte to see how she and her nation were faring. Upon approaching her, he slightly bowed in respect, briefly taking her hand in both of his as is the gentlemen's custom in most Gileadan states, "It is an honor to meet you, Your Majesty. I hope I have not interrupted anything." |

"I would like nothing more, Your Excellency," said Oesterle, as he shook Delos' hand. "I'll remember to approach you again after this whole ordeal is finished." With that, after giving Delos his farewell for now before the meeting, Oesterle reentered the chamber and took his seat once again. Optimistic at the potential partnership with the Achaians, Oesterle wrote down a note to himself to place the Achaians as a priority in Rusnyan foreign policy. |

King Bernhard was irritated. He and his delegation were late for the meeting after a storm prevented their plane from departing Ramadanhir National Airport, their second stop on the way to Legantus. Bernhard smiled politely at the press, waving, as he entered the building with his staff. "Arrange a meeting with Antonio after this summit." Bernhard said to his Chief of Staff, as they walked down the hallway and entered the summit room. Upon entering, Bernhard couldn't shake the feeling that every eye in the room was on him. He acknowledged a number of delegates around him, shaking some of their hands. He instructed his delegation to mingle with other diplomats, but only with those who are of similar political rank. Bernhard's chief bodyguard, Derek von Juriof, insisted he remain with the King. "No," Bernhard responded, "I'm sure dignitaries of our status know how to behave." Derek nodded, and abruptly left with his security team. Bernhard, alone, naturally searched for company. He approached Emperor Antonio, who was standing with the Crown Prince of Gilead, a New Vasconian diplomat and a younger woman, who he assumed to be the Queen of Izalith, given her company. Bernhard smiled and greeted a diplomat from Dawinia, discussing the fine wine Bernhard recently imported from the man's home town in Dawinia's south. Bernhard, while talking to the man, waited patiently for Antonio's attention, wanting to finally talk with the new Emperor of Dawinia. |

Ambassador Delos smiled as Secretary Oesterle walked away, pleased with his first successful bit of politicking for the day, before he also reentered the meeting room and turned back to the Izalithian delegation. His smile immediately froze at the number of delegates from other nations that had apparently swarmed Queen Charlotte in his absence, and the ambassador quickly decided that he was not going to add to the mess simply to say a few more kind words. Instead, he glanced around to determine who had arrived while he had been talking with the Rusnyan diplomat. It seemed that most of those surrounding Queen Charlotte were new arrivals, in fact: Delos recognized a diplomat from the government-in-exile of New Vasconia, the Gileadan prince who had interrupted his discussion with Minister Hendricks of Medai, and—really? Delos took a closer look, but his impression didn’t change. Both King Bernhard of Austiana and Emperor Antonio of Dawinia had arrived at the Union of Nations meeting in person, apparently determining that they would need to personally explain the actions of their nations and their current political aspirations to a critical international community. Delos could hardly fault them for their courage, regardless of the current political issues centering around them. He could hardly expect to speak to either of them anyway; both appeared to have other targets for their interest in mind. Therefore Delos turned away from the mob surrounding the Izalithians and looked around the room once again. There were other delegates scattered here and there throughout the chamber, but the ambassador couldn’t help but notice that one group in particular seemed particularly unwilling to mingle with the rest. When he saw the pins on their lapels, however, their reluctance made sense, and at that point Delos was quick to recognize the man at the head of the party. The ambassador knew immediately that this was an opportunity he could not afford to pass up. Walking swiftly toward the Verskanan delegation, Ambassador Delos approached the man he recognized to be the leader of the most powerful communist nation in Noverra. “National Secretary Ivanov,” he began, “I am Ambassador Delos, representing Anax Kerameikos of Achaian Peloponnese. If it is not too much trouble, sir, I would like to speak with you about the current state of affairs in Eastern Victorium, and the likelihood that the current unpleasantness in that region can be ended peacefully here today.” |

As Antonio was to continue the conversation with Charlotte, a man, who introduces himself as the Vasconian Speak of the Chamber. Antonio kindly introduces himself. “Not at all; I am Emperor Antonio of Dawinia, it is nice to make your acquaintance, Your Excellency.” Antonio proceeds to shake his hand, trying to return back to conversation. However, was again interrupted; this time by the Gileadan Crown Prince. “Once is enough but twice, he thought to himself, getting aggravated from the constant interruptions, as if no one see’s him in conversation with another. At least the Vasconian Speaker had the decency to wait patiently for a break in the conversation. “Pardon me, Your Majesty and Excellency, please excuse me, but if it is alright with you, I would like to speak at a later time, under less trying conditions,” said Antonio, hiding his annoyance behind his smile. He respectfully bows in respect and leaves the three to their own devices. Proceeding more into the throng of diplomats, Antonio spots the Austianese king and makes his way to him, more relieved than anything else. “King Bernhard, it’s about time that we finally met,” said Antonio, slightly bowing to show respect, although not necessary. |

King Bernhard smiled, and bowed politely. He shook Antonio's hand, and the proceeded in a relaxed tone. "It is an honor to finally meet you, Your Majesty." Bernhard smiled, suddenly realizing the presence of his daughter, Princess Margaret, standing beside him, "Your Majesty, I would like to introduce you to my beautiful daughter, Princess Margaret." Princess Margaret, young and slightly timid, curtsied politely, smiling. "I have heard so many great things about you." Margaret said, in a manner that could easily be mistaken for flirtation. |

The Queen smiled warmly back at Emperor Antonio, her indigo eyes looking up into his. "It's wonderful news that the Dawinians that have entered my nation had a pleasurable visit. It saddens me that more of our nation is currently restricted to foreigners." the Queen merely gave a short sigh and shook her head, returning eye contact. "It's for the best though, I'm glad your Empire respects that. Soon enough the NFZ should be greatly lessened, potentially even removed entirely depending on our efforts on ensuring everyone's safety and peace of mind." Charlotte's musings as to what to direct the conversation towards were soon stalled as a representative of New Vasconia approached and greeted both the Dawinian and Izalithian delegations. She had caught a bit of a vibe from how he had been looking around at everyone and was mildly suspicious of neutral tone and stance now. Charlotte assumed it was most likely to do with the ideals he shared with his government. Putting her thoughts aside she politely bowed her head and greeted him. "Well met Speaker, it's a pleasure to finally meet someone from New Vasconia. I would like you to know Izalithian's are offering their prayers that the confusion and turmoil soon comes to an end with an outcome that is best for all of your people. We understand too well the sharp sting of disorder and the harrowing effect it can have." Charlotte made sure to emphasize she wasn't over exaggerating with her body language or tone. Her attention was soon diverted from Kokinos. She was soon bowing in return to the Crown Prince of Gilead. The young lady momentarily turned as she noticed the king of Austiana approaching the Emperor she turned back quickly but was too late to stop the prince taking her hand, the gesture was brief but the air was a little heavier. The Izalithian guards had managed to silently edge in closer in the short time frame and the Corporal Azu couldn't hide her cringe. Queen Charlotte's composure dropped momentarily and she gave an awkward laugh, her cheeks were slightly pink now. "It's an honor to meet you your highness. I was just making the acquaintance of the esteemed individuals you find currently here." she didn't introduce any as introducing someone to someone who probably knows them better than you is considered rude. However this wasn't the taboo she had to explain to the crowned prince. "Izalithians tend to put a lot of weight into physical gestures..." she shook her head as her eyes looked at the ground momentarily, she was avoiding the topic and she knew it. She had to get back into the correct frame of mind. "It's considered taboo for acquaintances to touch me, well, the royal family rather... I'm, well skin contact anyway..." she failed and ended up muttering. At a loss as to what to say. She then received a firm prod from her guard captain from behind, who made great effort to make sure no foreigners saw him do it. Charlotte snapped out of it and looked up at the Gilead Prince. "I'm sorry, I'm just rather embarrassed. It's considered taboo to make skin contact with acquaintances in greeting. It gets more series depending on the Izalithian in question's authority and rank. It also indicates a level of intimacy we simply don't share." the Queen smiled warmly and she raised her hands up quizzically. "When it comes to formal greetings, Izalithians are usually rather prudish. Look on the bright side, at least we got to learn something interesting and different about each other's cultures." The Izalithian guards took a few steps back and returned to their original positions. During the short misunderstanding they'd silently closed the distance. It went without saying that gestures could be embarrassing over shots, but in the case of an intimate gesture being used sarcastically it would have been akin to him walking up and slapping her in the face. Charlotte waited for a reply, she'd regained her regal composure from before and could only hope nobody was paying overt attention. |

”As with you, and please, call me Antonio. There is no need for formalities,” responded Antonio, as he shook Bernard’s hand. Antonio smiles as Princess Margaret was introduced to him, bowing in response. “Are you sure you have the right Antonio? I’ve just been...around.” Antonio proceeds to laugh, trying to break the ice between them. |
