Apostolic Palace Salveon, The Papal States Pope Leo IX sits in his private study, analysing various news articles from around the world and letters sent to him. Many of the letters offered him thanks for helping to depose Dawinia’s illegitimate ruler. But, as is expected, some critiqued for involving himself in another country’s affairs. A knock at the door interrupts his thoughts. “Your Holiness, Archbishop Mihail is here to see you,” said a cleric, as he poked his head into the room. “Ah yes, please send him in right away,” responded Pope Leo, as he stands and moves to the front of his desk. The cleric quickly goes to get the Archbishop, leading him into the room, closing the door behind him. Mihail Demetriou, the current Roman Catholic Archbishop of Rotunville, proceeds to the Pope, genuflects, kissing his ring, and rises. “Your Holiness, I thank you for meeting with me, with such short notice,” said Mihail. “Of course,” responds Pope Leo, gesturing for him to sit, returning to his seat. “What brings you all the way to Salveon?” Taking a seat, Mihail starts. “I’ve come to speak of the state of New Vasconia, Your Holiness.” “Please, go on.” “It’s more specifically about our Orthodox brethren. Just earlier this week, I had the most pleasant conversation with His All Holiness, Ecumenical Patriarch Michael. He spoke of your bravery towards Charles, the excommunicatis, and how you helped to liberate the Dawinian people of his most horrid, and illegitimate rule.” “Ah. I did only what anyone else in my position would have done, for it is not to be, for one so evil to rule over such a most faithful nation. But please, do give my regards to His All Holiness.” “I believe he would like to tell you in person, Your Holiness.” Pope Leo manoeuvres in his seat before responding. “Oh really? And why is that?” “Well, in those talks we had, he expressed his vision to see New Vasconia independent once again and the challenge that we all face as native Vasconians to obtain such a feat.” Pope Leo leans back in his chair, thinking. “His, and your, plight is arduous. However, I believe that the cause is righteous and, would like to have a face-to-face meeting with him; perhaps together, we can achieve this feat.” Pope Leo proceeds to open his drawer and retrieve a sheet of paper, embossed with the seal of The Papal States, as well as a pen. “Would you mind taking this letter to His All Holiness himself, when you make your way back to Vasconia?” “Of course not, Your Holiness. It would be of no problem”

"It gives me comfort to hear that people are not actively receiving prosecution," Leo said," however, I am inclined to agree with your view on their laws. One must recognize not all may pray the same way, speak the same language, or eat the same things, and for this, it is the duty of a nation to protect all of its people, foreign or not." Leo falls silent, thinking for a moment. "The Papal State may not have much to offer in artillery and soldiers, but we do hold our historical influence over the nations who remained true to the faith. I will make clear of the wrongdoing that has been done, so that a solution may be sought." Leo touches his crucifix, which hangs from his neck. "And as the temporal problem is sorted, so must be our spiritual. More and more people stray away from faith in alarming numbers, if not for the many issues we, not as the Church but as Christians, face. For centuries, this divide, this schism, only perpetuates the idea that we too, may not even live and commune with unity in the Christian faith. Too long have we lived apart, for essentially, the same purpose." Edited by The Papal States, Jun 30 2014, 12:49 AM.

"I agree, brother," he replied, "for too long have our brothers-in-faith fought amongst one another over centuries-old disagreements." "For, we are all united as One in the blood and body of Christ." |

"Yes, this we are," he responded, "and though we may not completely settle our minor, yet significant, differences, at least from now forward, we may make strides to pave the path to such a goal."

"For so much that must be discussed and debated on, I believe that a future meeting would best serve for this purpose," respond Leo, "Now, I am more worried and determined on the issue of New Vasconia. It's liberation is vital and most needed." Leo thinks for a second before continuing. "Will this be of any issue for you?" |

”Of course,” Leo responded, “I assure you, a most positive outcome with arise from this. I shall have a meeting with the Austianese King and there will this be resolved. For Victorium and the world, this will only be the beginning for the betterment and security of the world, for I do fear the worst for the nations of this great land.” |

"It is of no issue, Your All-Holiness. Though we may have our differences, in the end, we all work for the same boss." Leo laughs, before continuing. "If I had not said before, I am glad that we were able to meet, especially during trying circumstances. I am most hopeful for our next meeting, where we may start to tackle ecclesiastical issues." |

"It is of no issue," he responded. Michael chuckled at the Pope's comment. "As do I," he said, "we have made history here today--and may we forever continue to do so." He began to get up. "May your everyday be as pleasant as your last, my friend," he said as he was about to leave. |

Leo rises with Michael. “And may yours as well. Romans 12:12 tells us to ‘rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and be constant in prayer.’ The day will come soon enough, this is true. Stay positive and faithful for the days to come.” Leo begins to walk towards the room’s door. “Let us make way to the Basilica, where we may observe its wonder, before you take your leave, if that is okay with you.” |

Pope Leo continues on, opening the door of his office to the hallway. The two men continue to talk to one another, as Leo navigates them all through the corridors and passages to reach Saint Peter’s Basilica; aides of both persons followed closely, however at a respectful distance, from Leo and Michael. After reaching and having been led around the building, they, once again, are at the entrance of the Basilica. It looks to Leo as if the crown of people earlier has swelled in numbers. Cheering and waving erupted when the people saw Leo and Michael; the sound of camera shutters was heard, every so softly, washed out by the cheers. Leo extends his hand to Michael, while saying his final words. “Until next time, my friend. We shall prevail.” |

Michael was a bit overwhelmed by the huge fanfare that he was so unused to getting back in New Vasconia, but he tried to put on his best face, for the people, nonetheless. He took Leo's hand, shaking it as he responded, "Indeed. And, thank you, for all of your help." He then made his way back to the car that had brought him here. "To the plane, good sir," he said to his driver as he got in, "our work here is done." "For now," he added. The car then began back toward the plane that had brought him here, where he would begin the journey back home to Rotunville. |
