Lefkada smiled as she considered asking the Office of International Political Outreach for a raise. Combined with what Delos had told her of the Union of Nations meeting, where he had also been called ‘Excellency,’ it was clear that ambassadors meant more to other governments than they did to the Megaron. Often Lefkada had wondered if the anax and Basileus Kifisia considered them all interchangeable. “I was hoping that Your Excellency could pass on Anax Kerameikos’s greetings and good will to King Charles,” the ambassador began. “Achaian Peloponnese has regretfully few international partners, and this is especially true in Victorium. The anax would be especially pleased if Achaian Peloponnese’s first true partnership in Victorium was forged with the Kingdom of Auvernia.” Lefkada considered her next words carefully. “King Bernhard has his worries about the nature of politics in Noverra, of course, and while the anax does not share them entirely, he can only wonder if the good king sees something that is hidden from the eyes of the Megaron. Should there be true cause to be wary, Anax Kerameikos would greatly appreciate the friendship of the Kingdom of Auvernia, and of King Charles.” |

Cathair Ó Mathúin cursed the administration that left him, a high ranking official and newly appointed military advisor to the king en route to some uppity meeting with the world's royals. It was not the fact that there was royalty that bothered him. He has been among such many times coming from a noble clann of great influence and power. What bothered him is that this may very well become his job from now on, nothing more than a diplomat with military experience. He unsheathed his sword, a sign of his office and position. Thinking back on his time as a sailor and his fian as a young man. He only accepted this promotion because he is the heir to his clann's name and to turn down such a promotion would be unacceptable. Snapping out of his thoughts he realized he would probably not need his sword at a diplomatic meeting and put it aside, instead favouring his clann dirk and hung it from the waist-belt of his kilt. Cathair cared little for the trip, he disliked flying and preferred sailing, but time was short. Upon his arrival he judged that most of the attendees must already be here due to the amount of people. With a sigh he straightened himself up and stepped into the hall with the other diplomats. Louis was taken aback by this very straight-forward proposition. But yet this pleased Louis. The Privy Council had sent Louis with high hopes of coming back with alliances, and here was one presenting itself on a platter. "I will most certainly send the greetings to my Cousin. Furthermore, I will consider your offer of an partnership during the course of the meeting. Perhaps we could talk again after the first session is over tonight. I am currently residing at the Auvernian Embassy, and after this first session, I will be having dinner with Auvernia's ambassador to Austiana, Edouard Archambault. If it is possible that you may come, we could talk more about this partnership there." |

Ambassador Lefkada’s smile, which had dimmed while discussing the possible threat posed by democracy, returned in full force. “I would be honored, Your Excellency,” she said. “And I would be most grateful for the opportunity to discuss the matter of partnership in further detail.” |

OOC: 3 notes - Since Dawinia is busy I'll let him chat with Austiana without disturbing him and chat with Itius - My guys will only have pistols - Auvernia and I agreed that my Crown Prince's meeting with the ambassador took place before this meeting and that my CP was granted Asylum and he flew in from Auvernia - Cheers ![]() Cathair Ó Mathúin caught the eye of the Crown Prince. Valkanians were always intrigued by the unique calture of the nearby island and he couldn't help but move to start a conversation with the representative of Itius. Bowing slightly he addressed him; "Your Excellency. Would you mind my joining you in a conversation?" |

Looking first to the approaching man and then to his gaggle of guards, Cathair's first thought was whether the man was incompetent or if he was so paranoid that he would need such a guard at a diplomatic event. Dismissing the thought he responded brusquely with his thick gaelic accent “Save it for the royals and the politicians. My position hardly deserves such a title.” He never liked honeyed greetings used by nobles and politicians back home and it is even worse here. He really wished that he had a strong drink on hand to jump-start his diplomacy skills. With a sigh he continued. “My apologies, the trip here must still be wearing down on me. I assume by your... retinue that you are of royalty from somewhere? I am Cathair of clann Mathúin here on behalf of the High King of Itius.” Reaching out a large hand, offering a handshake. “And you are?” |

The Crown Prince shook the Itius' representative's hand, signing to his guards to disperse noticing the ill feelings they might be causing to the other diplomats. He stayed there with his top advisers and his wife and replied; "Crown Prince Andrew of Valkany. Your nation has always intirgued both me and my compatriots and I thought this was great opportunity to learn more about it. I apologize for being too official. Having grown up as Valkanian Nobility it's all I have ever learned to be frank." |

While Bernhard and Lucille exchanged greetings and pleasantries with the Dawinians, Bernhard eyed the Valkanian delegation, and in particular, the group of armed men following Cathair Ó Mathúin. "Forgive me, I won't be a moment." Bernhard said, moving away from the conversation and leaving Lucille to speak with Antonio and the Crown Prince about the latest developments on the TV soap opera 'O Lord'. The King moved towards his Head of Security, Kurt Vandersan, who stood at the door. "Who let those Valkanian thugs in?" Bernhard asked, in an aggressive manner, "All security entourages were instructed to wait outside the conference, why were these fools exempt?" Kurt, not an overly intelligent man, shrugged shallowly. In fact, he could not identify where the Valkanian guards where, whereas the guards stood out to every single person in the room like a red, sore thumb. He scratched his bald head imprudently, as he scanned the crowd until he found the guards, a group of men in a somewhat dispersed manner following a meter behind Cathair Ó Mathúin. "Uh..." Kurt mumbled, "Shall I, uh, get rid of them?" "Yes, and do it in a subtle manner!" Bernhard snapped, abruptly leaving and returning to conversation with Antonio and the Crown Prince of Dawinia, breaking Lucille's awkward and particularly uninspiring speech about her struggle with haemorrhoids. Kurt, speaking into his radio, instructed three security members to follow him up to the Valkanian delegation. Kurt clumsily stumbled up to the Valkanians, with a distinct lack of authority, finally made it to the group of Valkanian guards followed by two, more competent Austianese guards. After three attempts to gain the Valkanian guard's attention, Kurt finally spoke up. "Um, uh... excuse me..." Kurt hesitated, "I have to ask you to, erm, leave, please." |

"Certainly, Certainly!", agreed Louis. "I will send one of my pages to escort you our limousines after the meeting..." His eyes were drawn to the Austianese security guards harassing Andrew. He then focused on the Achaian ambassador, and pointed out Louis's pages, the gaggle of wide-eyed college students gawking at everyone. "I'll send the blonde haired one, her name is Amelie". After that, he bid the ambassador a brief farewell. As both parties peeled off, Louis kept his concentration with the Crown Prince and Cathair. Louis especially wanted to talk to Auvernia's neighbors, Itius and Dawinia. Valkany was dealt with when he presented himself before the King, his vassals, and the Privy Council a few days ago. Louis wanted to catch up with his cousins, Antonio and Fernando, and to introduce himself to the Itusian delegate. "Why did Charles let him leave the country..." |

The guards shruged. "His Majesty knew this was going to happen. But you had to get us in here, for the Crown Prince's Security, right Commander?" said a Private to the Commander. Before entering the Crown Prince asked his guards not to enter but the Commander is quite a paranoid man so he got in there anyway, telling the Crown Prince his security is at stake. Though he wasn't too happy one of his troops pointed it out in front of foreigners. Embarassed he said; "Ah sure. We have full faith you are more than competent of protecting the Crown Prince." the guards moved out of the hall while the Commander slapped his Private for humiliating him. "Don't ever do that again in front of strangers!" "But I was telling the truth!" "That's not the point!" They continued mumbling in low voices all the way to the exit. |

Lefkada watched the Auvernian duke walk away and considered her reasonable success. The greater test would be this evening, she knew, when she met with the duke and the Auvernian ambassador to Austiana for dinner; it could either go very well or very poorly, and that depended largely on her own diplomatic skill. While she was understandably nervous, Lefkada was also looking forward to the event. With luck, Auvernia would become Achaian Peloponnese’s first partner in Victorium, and Anax Kerameikos could begin to rebuild his nation’s international reputation in a territory he had previously shunned. The ambassador’s attention was taken by the departing Valkanian guardsmen, whose presence had evidently been too much for Austiana’s own security forces. Glancing at her own ‘aides,’ Lefkada considered the matter for a moment before telling them, “If you’re questioned, don’t bother to hide your identities. We’re not here to cause trouble, and it doesn’t appear that we will need to spy on Austiana’s military capabilities if we are all coming together here in the first place.” “We’ll do that, then,” Colonel Oileus, the lead ‘aide,’ replied. “Although we have no identification for obvious reasons…” “I will vouch for you,” Lefkada answered. “The anax will vouch for all of us. If Austiana does not believe the words of the anax, we have no business here in the first place.” The colonel nodded. “If we’re questioned, we’ll explain ourselves truthfully,” he confirmed. Lefkada nodded back. “Thank you.” She turned back to the gathering and watched the diplomats mingle for a moment longer. ‘It seems that I missed something while I was speaking to Duke Louis,’ she thought. ‘The room was not this tense when we all arrived.’ |

'Is she really talking about this...so openly?, thought Antonio, as he tried to look interested in the conversation about Lucille's haemorrhoid problem. At this point, Bernhard had returned from his brief interruption a few moments ago, and although Antonio knew it was rude to leave during someone's active company, he was looking for somewhere else to go. Fernando continue to engage Lucille about the details of her ailment and other things, while Antonio quickly scanned the room, spotting out his cousin just finishing with the Achaian Ambassador. "Please, pardon me, if only for a few moments," said Antonio, smiling, "Your Majesties; Fernando." Antonio bows his head as he dismisses himself from the group. Antonio, as he walks away, breaths a sigh of relief. He starts smiling again, thinking about Fernando's reaction to him leaving alone with her. Words will definitely be exchanged later between him and his brother, which only makes him laugh. He maneuvered about the room, smiling and acknowledging the diplomats around the room; finally, he came into the company of the Duke Louis. "Louis! How nice to see you again," said Antonio, taking a final step to reach him. |

"Cousin!" exclaimed Louis as he saw Antonio approach him. Louis felt the impulse to hug his young cousin, but acted against it. "How have you been since I last saw you!". Louis pulled him close, and placed his arm around his back and said quietly "Glad to see that you escaped that demonic wench!" |

"Busy like you wouldn't believe it," responded Antonio, "and my God, she speaks as she looks; you would not fathom what she was just speaking to us both about." Antonio chuckles, returning to face him. "How are things going with you and the Kingdom? How's old Charlie?" |

"It's been fine...", Louis said. " We finished paying the mercenaries just before I left for Austiana. Charles is fairly pleased. Also, we received that young man over there with the armed guards - He's the Crown Prince of Valkany. Charles asked for his father to come over, but he refused. Instead we got Andrew. He came talking about restoring the monarchy; Charles said that he would consider sending aid, but feels that the young man is building a bridge to nowhere."
