"Ah yes," Antonío started, glad to have the opportunity to progress the conversation onward, "on the issue of trade: Dawinia is the leading nation in terms of its aircraft manufacturing for both the civil/aerospace and military sector. Aeruña, our pride and joy, with its two major divisions (Aeruña Aerospacial and Meinhard-Drugov), makes up a good portion of the global aircraft market, along with our drones, satellites, and numerous other technological innovations; you name it, we probably make it, and to even begin on divulging on what MDI develops would take hours. And for this new opportunity that is presented here in the League of Castratene, we'd be more inclined to provide our equipment with more ease here, removing the fees and other trade barriers that may be present here, as well as provide reduced costs per aircraft."

Antonío quickly looks around the room, then to his open folder, flipping a few pages forward.

"Oh, and as well as our top pharmaceutical company, Grupo Perisal, would be granted priority dealings with the members of this organisation to facilitate a more fluid and easier method of transactions, enabling all of us to benefit from their innovations and developments, for a fairer and lesser price. All in all, our markets will be optimised for the use in the League; truly we aspire for all our nations to prosper from our close economic cooperation, all for the security and favour of our nations' future."

Louis brought out a stack of papers and announced "As I've said before, we have written permission from certain company leaders the Privy Council of Auvernia have selected for our use in this meeting. Like Dawinia, we produce largely passenger airliners, and certain models under contract. In addition, our leading train manufacturer, Durand, produces trains for use in the freight and passenger markets - Auvernian trains have seen success in Dawinia, and in Austiana as well. We also have our leading shipbuilding industry, Cornelissen Industries, produces some ships of the Auvernian Navy, and various cargo ships for our merchant marine. We also Oil fields off the coast of Acadia, and off northern shores of the Kingdom of Wyndemere."

Ambassador Lefkada made notes as the Dawinian and Auvernian delegations discussed what their nations could bring to the League; these notes joined those already made regarding the offers of Valkany and Izalith, and those prepared hours before regarding Achaian Peloponnese’s available resources. The ambassador had to admit that she liked what she saw. “We all seem to have much to offer one another,” she said. “I have already mentioned our own products--common metals, Peloponnesian rubies, diamonds, and of course our labor in manufacturing and shipping--but we are no less interested in your own products.” Lefkada looked to Emperor Antonio of Dawinia. “Your Majesty, Achaian Peloponnese would be especially interested in the products and technology of Aeruña Aerospacial, as well as Meinhard-Drugov Industries; in the latter case, I have little doubt that the Megaron’s corporate partners are already seeking to make purchases for research and development purposes, but I cannot claim to know the likelihood of their success, considering that we had only just broached the possibility of formal talks with the government of Rusnya when their actions brought down the monarchy of Valkany, and caused us to reconsider our relationship with them before it had even begun. I have to believe that we will have better luck dealing with Your Majesty and Aeruña Aerospacial directly, especially after our meeting here today, in order to obtain any possible advantage. As High General Telvan has just reminded us all,” and here Lefkada gave the Izalithian delegation a grudging nod, “technology has advanced well beyond Achaian Peloponnese’s understanding. If there is a means to, for instance, knock a few Gileadan satellites out of the sky, as Izalith suggests we must do to preserve our national security and peace of mind, then the solution to this problem will almost certainly come from Aeruña Aerospacial before any other corporation with whom Achaian Peloponnese is likely to do business.

“And again,” Lefkada added, “Achaian Peloponnese is more than willing to open its factories to produce material for Aeruña Aerospacial. Our own primary aerospace corporations, Iraklis and Vellerofontis, are eager to work with Aeruña designers. I anticipate that our corporate representatives will be interested in joint research with Aeruña in the near future.”

The ambassador shifted uncomfortably. “The Megaron might also be interested in the work of Grupo Perisal. I will have to contact the anax before I can be certain that I am allowed to say more, but it is possible that any direct talks between Dawinia and Achaian Peloponnese will discuss the pharmaceutical industry, and medicines more generally. Among other things, the Achaian military would like to improve its medical capabilities to prepare for the worst-case scenario.”

Turning her attention to Prince Louis of Auvernia, Lefkada said, “The Megaron will likely invest equal attention and energy into Auvernian industry, Your Highness. The cities of the Peloponnese are linked primarily by rail lines and highways; we consider the former to be much more important for our commercial ventures, as they are much better suited to hauling freight. Our trains largely continue to run on coal, as it is a resource the Peloponnesian Mountains provide in abundance, but we are certainly interested in purchasing or developing more modern vehicles in addition. I expect that our mining and shipping corporations, to say nothing of our major manufacturers, will have a great interest in the acquisition of new shipping technology. That extends not just to rail transportation, of course, but also to shipping. I believe I am not too far off the mark to say that our own Aktaion Shipwrights will be most interested in opening its docks and design rooms to officials from Cornelissen Industries. As with Aeruña, Achaian Peloponnese will gladly offer its labor and materials in constructing Cornelissen products. In the meantime, it is certain that Aktaion, and the Megaron directly, will be interested in purchasing Cornelissen’s products for its own use. And… as unfortunate as it is, I believe Achaian Peloponnese will also need to look into purchasing Auvernian oil. While the Megaron seeks to remain as self-sufficient as possible, it is clear that our military’s energy needs cannot be met by the means that are currently available to us.”

The ambassador turned back to the Izalithian delegation. “To that end, I would also like to express the Megaron’s interest in Izalith’s battery development,” she said. “Achaian Peloponnese is largely powered by hydroelectricity, but while we are capable of transferring that power as far as we desire, we are not yet capable of storing it in sufficient quantities for our needs. I can only assume that Izalith’s research and development on this matter far exceeds our own, and Achaian Peloponnese would be grateful to Izalith if the products of that development could be made available for purchase.”

King Bernhard continued to write down important pieces of information discussed by the delegates in his oversized notebook. There was no need, every single word spoken in the meeting was being recorded by Austianese typists and would be accessible by all the leaders at the conference's conclusion, Bernhard's exercise was merely a habit. He also, rather regrettably, deeply admired his beautiful penmanship.

"It's become incredibly clear to me that many of the trade operations discussed today can be made significantly easier if we can develop more universal trade relations between the members here today. I would suggest, that as a matter of LOC policy, we should promote free trade and the steady removal of trade regulations between us. I would hope that we see the establishment of many agreements regarding many different important and export products, and I believe if such agreements are developed correctly our League, both militarily and politically, will prosper."

Bernhard paused, and wiped sweat off of his forehead. Despite the room being at a comfortable temperature, Bernhard frequently perspired when he was speaking about matters of importance. It had nothing to do with anxiety or nerves, rather concentration.

"Now regarding Austiana's economic standing," Bernhard continued, "Our manufacturing industry has seen a minor, while disappointing rebound after the War and the initial crash nearly a year ago. It remains the strongest in Victorium, and has a lot to offer, and we're seeing a gradual recovery, however it is becoming increasingly difficult to compete with Melzae and even Gilead, due to their relatively cheap workforce. It would be hugely beneficial to Austiana if a free trade agreement within the LOC was established where relevant to automobiles and heavy machinery, and additional tariffs were imposed on Melzean and Gileadean manufacturing products. Of course, this would come at a decline of the affordability of many of these products, however it would allow Austiana to increase our own market share and a much larger spread of quality Austianese merchandise throughout the League. It would also put Austianese economic recovery on steroids, and would be a huge help to this country, and ultimately the LOC."

Bernhard couldn't help but feel egotistical.

"And," he added, "Along with dozens of other trade agreements, all of our respective domestic economies would flourish. In return for agreements to such a manufacturing free trade agreement, Austiana would be very eager to enter into agricultural, energy and military trade agreements, along with many others, You scratch my back, I scratch yours, I suppose you could say."

Ambassador Lefkada nodded to King Bernhard and said, “Certainly Achaian Peloponnese would not be averse to a free trade agreement among the nations of the League. Achaian manufacturers will appreciate their products being considered at a fair price; I can assure you all that these products will be more than affordable, assuming that no tariffs make them otherwise.”

Those products, the ambassador carefully did not state, included the aforementioned automobiles and heavy machinery, the latter of which had been developed mainly for the Achaian mining industry. Perhaps Bernhard expected his manufacturers to sell such automobiles and heavy machinery without competition; certainly in some niche markets of the former industry, such as luxury vehicles, he would be right to do so. But for the most part… ‘Let him be surprised,’ Lefkada thought to herself, ‘when Achaian products equal his quality and outmatch his affordability. Let us see just what nation Victorium selects to build its vehicles and machines then. And let us see if the rest of this League rates a single nation’s economy to be the proper key to the entire continent’s prosperity.’

Before any other person could continue onward, Antonío quickly interjects into the conversation at hand.

"Pardorn my interjection, however, I do suggest that we recess these talks till tomorrow. We've all made great strides in the various items that were most pressing to us and this organisation, and to that, I am most pleased with this progress. Let us take respite from our dealings here, so that we come with a fresh mind and, hopefully, eager to continue."

Ambassador Lefkada considered the rest of the table for a moment, looking for a reaction to the Dawinian emperor’s rather sudden request to adjourn. As far as she was concerned, there was no real reason to interrupt the discussion any more than necessary. At the same time, though, there was no pressing reason to continue for the day, either. In terms of trade, it seemed that all participants were in agreement; in terms of international stances, each nation was acting alone. At the very least, Lefkada hoped that a night’s pondering would allow her to regroup and reconsider just what kind of stance the League of Castratene and its members could and should present, both among themselves and to the rest of the world.

“I have no objection to a recess,” the ambassador answered. “Perhaps our conversation will benefit from some restful consideration. It seems that none of us are entirely certain what this organization is meant to accomplish--or at least, we do not currently agree on its goals.” Lefkada kept her expression as she admitted, “Achaian Peloponnese, it seems, has presented more inflexible policies than the general membership of this League is willing or even able to implement. I appreciate the opportunity to contact the Megaron and explain the insurmountable limitations of its current position, relative to the rest of this League; and I hope that I will return to this meeting room with more productive proposals tomorrow morning.”

It galled to admit that failure, but Lefkada could not ask other nations to accept the impossible any more than she could promise it of Achaian Peloponnese. Her earlier anger had been borne of virtual impotence, after all, and it seemed that most of the rest of the nations at the table were in no better situation. As she had just said, hopefully a discussion with the Megaron and a long night’s rest would give Lefkada some better ideas to proceed.

And there was one other thing to look forward to in the coming hours, Lefkada reminded herself, glancing over at the Auvernian delegation beside her. She could at least hope for closer ties between Achaian Peloponnese and the nations of the League, even if the League itself failed to produce the results the Megaron had hoped for.

Cathair looks up from his notes at the talk of recess. “I have no problem with ending talks for the day. Itius is glad for the free trade, and though we have little to offer in luxuries or manufactured goods surely we will find markets among your fine nations.

“We have made deals however with the Sons of Arawn, some of the finest security and soldiers in Itius are willing to extend their services at a discount and perhaps offer their more “specialized” abilities to the friends of Itius.”

“These agreements can be discussed later however. Perhaps when we discuss military issues”

Telvan and Miorill didn't get an opportunity to interject before the recess was called. Following Telvan's lead they only bowed a little and left. They picked up their third member, the Covenant soldier outside the room and made their way out.
