Minister Peiraias sighed as he entered his office for the first time in several days, having recently returned from his meeting with King Gregorius of Gilead. While the meeting could have been more productive than it was, the minister was certainly glad of the progress that had been made before the king had asked to cut the meeting short in favor of another standing appointment that day. Peiraias had thought nothing of it, but now he was rethinking his earlier optimism, having heard as soon as he returned to Kerkyra that Gilead had been implicated in international espionage at the UN meeting, with Izalith providing evidence that Gilead’s Crown Prince Gregory had not bothered to refute. King Gregorius had already replied to Anax Kerameikos’s complaint about the matter, and officially the matter was over and done with, but Peiraias knew Kerameikos better than that: Achaian Peloponnese would hold a wary eye over Gilead for the foreseeable future.

The minister considered the notes that Basileus Kifisia and Basileus Kypseli had taken for him in his absence, regarding matters both domestic and foreign. Several of these matters were entirely out of Peiraias’s hands anyway, most especially those relating to Ionia; nonetheless, he was pleased to know the extent of the Megaron’s involvement in the southeastern territories, if only to know just how much of the anax’s attention could still be diverted to other matters at need. It was also useful as he considered Achaian Peloponnese’s nonexistent relationships with its eastern neighbors. With the exception of Legantus, which had already attracted Anax Kerameikos’s wary attention for being a close ally to Gilead, no nation on or near the Cathay Ocean had any official relationship with Achaian Peloponnese yet. If that was the case when Ionia was finally pacified in the future, the port of Sardeis would remain underutilized, essentially wasting the expenditure of time, effort, money, and lives that had gone into its capture. Peiraias quickly decided that he would fix that oversight immediately.

Legantus, of course, was a semi-hostile nation; Melzae was still recovering from a devastating civil war and the deaths of thousands of people in self-inflicted genocide. But Kenso… Peiraias considered the far-eastern nation for a long moment. In large measure, Kenso remained a mystery to the rest of Noverra, but economically it promised to be a reliable trade partner. The minister knew for certain that it was almost the only option for Achaian Peloponnese when it came to utilizing the economic potential of Sardeis’s well-guarded port. This would be the business that Anax Kerameikos had envisioned when he ordered the Achaian army into Ionia.

Peiraias turned to the telephone on his desk and dialed the Office of International Political Outreach, as he reached for stationery with his other hand. “Kifisia,” he said into the intercom as soon as the ringing stopped, “get a diplomatic party ready. I have a job for you.”

The papers are everywhere. From the old mahogany desk, to the matching end tables, even scattered across the floor and the various pieces of upholstery that are seemingly randomly placed within the rather cramped office. A sigh escapes from the solitary occupant of the office. Running a hand through his short, blonde tresses, the Heavenly Emperor Aquila Lygatto let's out a sigh as he leans back in his chair, turning to look out the window overlooking the capital city of Granim.

Knock, knock.

Blinking, Aquila turns to glare at his door, no doubt one of the palace's runners bringing more paperwork that the people deemed 'necessary' for him to overview. The situation of Kenso's neighbour's creates more of a headache and a mountain of paperwork than anything else, especially when the complaints seem to be directed towards stemming the flow of refugees in the northern portion of the country. Ironically enough, the portion of the country which is the least populated and is normally the quietest with the exception of the various military reports.

A young man dressed in a pale grey military uniform steps in, holding an envelope. Clearly nervous for being in the presence of the nation's leader, the young man steps up to the desk, bowing and extending the envelope to Aquila. Without a word, he opens the envelope; dismissing the young man with a wave of his hand. Leaning back in his chair, he gazes over the contents; his face morphing into an expression of curiosity.

Placing the now read letter onto his desk, Aquila looks outside once again, gazing upon the sprawling metropolis and bustling people down below. Nodding to himself, he removes a pen and paper from somewhere among the mountains of paper around him and begins to write. Finished with the task, Aquila removes a mobile from his pocket, dialling his assistant and eldest daughter. "Jung, make the necessary preparations for foreign visitors. " Pausing to listen to the other person on the line, he let's out a sigh before looking around him before mumbling out a small "....Please." Hesitating once more, he leans in and cups a hand around his mouth. "...Yes, yes I love you. Now will you do it?"

Ambassador Patmos glanced over at the aide that the Office of International Political Outreach had foisted on him, who was currently sitting beside him in the plane’s window seat. “We will likely spend much of our time here discussing the economy,” he said, “and as such I am grateful for your assistance. Nonetheless, if the Kensons want to discuss anything else, you will follow my lead. Understand?”

“Of course, sir,” said the younger man—almost a boy, really, fresh out of his military years. He nodded sharply, as he had learned from his days in service; Patmos nodded in return, and turned his attention back to the papers in front of him. It wouldn’t be long before the diplomatic jet arrived at Granim-Dhirim International Transportation Center, and the ambassador intended to use as much time as he had to study the nation and the government with whom he would be talking. The aide had also apparently learned how to be quiet in the military (Patmos remembered silence being a valued trait among the lower ranks), and thus the ambassador was left in peace for the rest of the flight.

He was disturbed only by the voice of the captain coming over the intercom: “Ambassador, sir, we are about to touch down at Granim-Dhirim.”

Patmos put his papers away in case the landing was bumpy, before leaning back in his seat and waiting for the plane to hit the tarmac. It wasn’t a long wait, thankfully, and soon enough the plane was taxiing toward the terminal, while the ambassador checked his pockets to make sure that he hadn’t forgotten anything and was fully prepared for his upcoming meeting. Eventually the plane stopped moving entirely, and the captain’s voice came over the intercom once again: “Sir, we have arrived. Welcome to Kenso.”

Patmos stood up from his seat and stretched. Turning to his aide, he said, “Let’s see what’s in store, shall we?”

The aide, already standing, nodded again. “Yes, sir,” he said, his diplomatic expression only barely failing to contain a nervous excitement that Patmos almost envied. The ambassador gave the younger man a smile, before turning toward the front of the plane and the exit.

Jung shifts in place, clearly unhappy as the car and it's escort sit off the side of the tarmac in front of a large hangar. Looking over the information present on her remarkably small digital tablet, she let's out a huff at hearing the voice from the car's video feed.

"You shouldn't treat your father that way, especially when he happens to control an entire country." The blonde ruler of Kenso's face is concealed by mounds of paper seemingly endless. "Do you know what to say to the ambassador and his party when they arrive?"

At his question, the mood in the car shifts immediately. Jung clears her throat before nodding her head, her expression blank as she recites the information.

"Yes sir. Be respectful of all times, regardless of his position. A nation has many allies, and we cannot afford to leave a bad impression on one lest it spread to all. Make eye contact and attempt to keep the tone light, but formal. Speak in the diplomat's language so that they may feel at ease." Hesitating for a moment, she looks back at her father as he gives her a motion to continue. Swallowing, she looks down some. "Most important, keep your secrets close to you. Glean whatever you can for one day the ally can become an enemy. Do not let your mask drop."

Aquila nods his head, looking around one of the stacks of papers "That's my girl. You may not become queen, but you will certainly be an asset to our nation." Looking outside of the window, Jung watches as the plane touches down. A group of soldiers led by a middle-aged officer exit the hangar and come to a stop in front of the car door.

"Your Highness, it's time."

A sigh escapes her lips, before she looks at her father. Fixing each other with rather serious looks, Aquila cracks first, his lips twitching into a slight smile. "May the heaven's smile upon you and bring glory upon our nation, daughter." With that, the feed ends. Exiting the car, Jung smooths out her dress before moving forward towards the aircraft's stairs. The soldiers line up in two rows beside her and stand at attention.

As she catches sight of the delegation, Jung bows lowly at the waist, a pleasant smile seemingly etched onto her features.

"Welcome to Kenso, esteemed guests!"

Ambassador Patmos smiled at the young woman’s greeting, mentally reviewing the list of pictures and names he had received and been told to memorize. He barely managed to keep his smile on his face when he realized that this young woman was second in line for the throne of Kenso. “Your Highness,” the ambassador said, bowing his head in return for the bow she had given him, “you honor us. I am humbled to make your acquaintance. I am Ambassador Patmos of Achaian Peloponnese.” Patmos motioned to the young man beside him, who also bowed his head. “My assistant is Neofytos. I speak for both of us when I say that we are more than happy to join Your Highness here in Kenso today.”

Jung nods her head, standing up straight and looking the two men over. She gives a nod to the military officer, who barks an order in Kensoan to his men. Watching as they all return to their transports, two guards remain by the awaiting car including the officer.
"Ambassador, sir. If you will please get into the car we'll have you at the Imperial Palace quickly."
Pausing for a moment, the officer glances at Jung who steps forward once again. "I apologise that my father the Emperor could not meet you in person. He is rather preoccupied at the moment and has entrusted me to take his stead. I hope that is not cause for concern." The guards get into the car first directly followed by Jung, ushering in the foreign diplomats.

Patmos shook his head as he followed the princess’s lead and entered the car. “It is no concern at all, Your Highness,” the ambassador assured her. “Achaian Peloponnese has its share of national issues that require the anax’s undivided attention, as well. I hope that His Majesty’s troubles are brief, of course, but I look forward to discussing matters with Your Highness nonetheless.” The ambassador glanced out the window of the car at the bustling transportation center. “The small glimpse I’ve seen of Kenso already has caught my interest. This port facility is extremely impressive.” Considering the facility for a second longer, Patmos said, “If I may ask, Your Highness, what kind of traffic would this port see on a usual day? Does this facility handle freight as well as people?”

An unladylike snort escapes from Jung, who immediately looks slightly embarrassed at her outburst. "I would like to say they are brief, but as the sole regent the Emperor often finds himself rather overworked." Following the ambassador's look, she smiles proudly. "The Granim-Dhirim Transportation Centre serves as a network between the two largest cities of our nation. You may have noticed in your flight that the area between the two cities is highly developed. Due to the terrain and inhospitable nature of our land, most of our citizens live in this area and the border's between the two cities blends together. Ah, to answer your question it handles freight and passengers. Rail lines, naval vessels, aircraft, buses. It is easier to consolidate them all into one place then have it separated and taking up valuable space." She points around her at the high-rises and skyscrapers around them, many of which feature helicopter pads. "Vertical over horizontal is our motto when building. It has served us well so far."

Patmos gave the skyscrapers an appreciative look as Princess Jung pointed them out. “I see that,” he said, watching the helicopters rise and fall in the sky. “I imagine, as well, that helicopter travel is useful when shuttling across the channel between Granim and Dhirim.” The ambassador turned back to the princess. “But as Your Highness says, this facility has a great capacity to transfer both people and product. No doubt Kenso has very impressive markets abroad, if this transportation center is any gauge of import and export business.” Ambassador Patmos smiled. “My anax is extremely interested in gaining trading partners in the Far East, Your Highness, and Achaian Peloponnese very much desires to be a market for Kensoan products. Likewise, I am here to offer the export of Achaian products to Kenso, as soon as events allow for it. I would be pleased to discuss the details with you when we begin our formal talks.”

The car turns into an extraordinarily but otherwise ordinary park, the dense trees and foliage a stark contrast to the windows and concrete that make up the city. Jung remains silent for a moment, simply looking outside the window. "That would be most desirable, Ambassador Patmos."

There's a sudden break in the trees, and seemingly out of nowhere arises the Palace of White Clouds. Sitting in the middle of a rather large and serene lake, the palace resembles in equal parts a temple and a castle. Separate buildings are strewn throughout the the island, each surrounded by small gardens. Surprisingly, the area is rather busy for being so remote with servants and military officers walking to and fro on errands.

Jung turns to face the ambassador once again. "Welcome to the Palace of White Clouds. Pardon the lack of ceremony and fanfare, but the Palace has been busy of late. We do not wish for this to put a hamper to our proceedings." The officer from before opens Jung's door as she steps out.

Ambassador Patmos looked around as he exited the car, before turning to Princess Jung once more. “We have very little use for ceremony, Your Highness,” he said, as Neofytos slipped out of the car behind him. “May I ask what the palace is preparing for?” Despite Patmos’s original assumption that Emperor Aquila was busy with the usual business of his empire, this view of his residence suggested that something else entirely was monopolizing his attention.

"The annual infantry war games up in the Kuah Mountains. It gets like this twice a year: in the summer for the infantry and the winter is for the navy." Pausing for a moment, she moves into the main building, the servants and personnel bowing lowly and mumbling a short mantra before continuing on their way. "If it is not too much of a bother, we shall begin in one of the meeting rooms momentarily so that you may enjoy the rest of your time here as honoured guests." Stopping at a door with two guards posted, she opens the door gesturing for the ambassador to take a seat at the rectangular table in the middle of the room.

Ambassador Patmos nodded to the guards as he passed by, and smiled again as the princess motioned him through the doors and into the room. Taking the seat he had been offered, the ambassador opened his briefcase and retrieved some papers, while Neofytos gathered some sheets of his own and a pen. “We look forward to your nation’s hospitality,” Patmos said. “Thank you again, Your Highness.”

The ambassador glanced at the paper in front of him. “As I mentioned earlier, Achaian Peloponnese is most interested in expanding its trade networks eastward. Prior to this point, we have done relatively little business with nations on the Cathay Ocean, as our ports were all situated on the northern coastline of Suran, separated from the Cathay by the Sundra Canal. Achaian Peloponnese has found it rather impossible to discuss trade and business with its neighbor Ramadanhir, which controls access to the canal; as such, we have simply refrained from directly trading with any nation beyond it. But recently my anax undertook a project to acquire territory south of the canal, where we have been able to establish a port that will be capable of receiving as much sea traffic as our second-largest port at the moment, Pella. Without trading partners, however, such an acquisition is rather superfluous.” Patmos nodded his head toward Princess Jung. “As I mentioned earlier, I am here to determine if Your Highness’s nation would be willing to do business with mine, as soon as our port is operational.”

Patmos raised the paper in his hand slightly. “Achaian Peloponnese has much to offer in terms of mass-production, as well as the raw materials necessary for mass-production. We are willing to export these materials to Kenso as soon as possible; we are similarly willing to begin manufacturing Kensoan goods for your domestic markets, under contract from Kensoan companies. We are similarly interested in purchasing Kensoan products, largely technology. We would like to determine if there is any suitable arrangement that can be made with these terms in mind.”

Waving her hand in the air, the officer hands Jung her electronic tablet, a soft beep emanating from the small device as she takes her place across the table from Patmos and Neofytos. The officer takes a place at the wall behind her, standing at attention ready to assist if need be. Nodding her head at Patmos's thanks, she looks at him intently, occasionally making notes on her tablet.

Remaining silent for a few moments after Patmos finishes speaking, she scans the screen in front of her before clearing her throat. "We have been wishing to expand our trade ventures westward as well, however recent events within our neighbours borders have made the Emperor weary about sending anything that way. If the leader of Melzae is willing to eliminate their own people, what is stopping them from turning to us?" She attempts to fix a serious look at Patmos but ultimately fails, as a resigned sigh escapes her. "However the Emperor believes that the benefits of entering into a trade agreement and if possible a more permanent alliance, will far outweigh the danger that Melzae poses to us."

Jung shifts in place for a moment, glancing behind her at the officer who simply gives her a nod in support. Standing up, she bows at the waist to Patmos and his assistant. "On behalf of the Heavenly Jade Emperor Aquila Cyneric Tenskwatawa Lygatto, Kenso agrees to your trade proposal, Ambassador Patmos. Provided adequate protection is delegated towards the terms listed and to the joint ventures of our two nations."

Patmos nodded with a smile. “Melzae is an unstable risk, it is true,” he allowed. “However, its current instabilities are aimed inward. That nation has only recently undergone a regime change, and it is unlikely that its current government will have the ability to turn its attention outward for a good long time. If it has any aggressions to expend still, it will expend them against its own warring factions. It would come as a great surprise if Melzae is able to exert any international pressure in the near future.” The ambassador frowned as he considered the situation. “But with chaos engulfing the central authority, there is every opportunity for ambitious individuals to threaten international trade in their region of the sea. Achaian Peloponnese is more than willing to share the duties of patrolling the shipping routes between our two nations with the Kensoan navy, as long as there is any danger of economic disruption.”
