Anax Kerameikos shook his head as he considered the current situation. “This tension is becoming burdensome,” he said aloud. “We have just seen the end of a war, and already the nations of Noverra scramble to find factional friends to defend themselves against the next. We can only be worried that our own actions might have contributed to the current… discomfort.” The other officials in his office—Basileus Kifisia, Basileus Exarcheia, Basileus Kypseli, Minister Peiraias, and Minister Pagkrati—all winced slightly. Kerameikos nodded as he saw it. “It is nothing we could have helped, if we were to maintain our dignity,” he said. “But now we must see if our participation in the League of Castratene will bear fruit. Certainly we have gained friends in the matter—more, I think, than we have ever had before—but we are ill prepared to back up the strong rhetoric of criticism that we offered to those we must now consider our rivals, whose actions drove us into the company of governments even we once considered threats to world peace.” Basileus Exarcheia nodded grimly. “As always, sir, our military is prepared for war,” he said. “But as prepared as it might be, it is not capable of victory against a great power. We will have to depend more than we prefer on the nations surrounding us.” “All the more reason that we should focus our minds on diplomacy and see if we can untangle ourselves from these disagreements,” Basileus Kifisia said in return. “If we cannot survive a war, let us avoid fighting one.” Peiraias shook his head. “War does not follow every disagreement,” he said. “And we should be thankful for that, as otherwise Noverra would long ago have crumbled to dust. Disagreement, after all, is a constant in international diplomacy. We cannot please everyone, and there is more than enough reason to believe that few other nations will ever please us.” The minister glanced at the map. “We cannot expect a superpower to mind its own business, no matter how stridently we demand it,” he pointed out wryly. “At the same time, though, no one can expect us to sit back calmly and accept that fact. And the superpower in question has so far been a reasonable negotiator—” “It has sometimes been a reasonable negotiator,” Kifisia cut in. She flushed as her superior shot her a look, but pressed on to add, “Ambassador Delos reported the actions of Gilead’s crown prince to me personally. Gilead has always… indulged us, for lack of a better word, but now that we stand firmly against their actions in Izalith, there is every chance that their indulgence will come to an end, and Gilead’s ‘reasonability’ will come to an end with it.” Anax Kerameikos nodded. “It is a fair point,” he said. “If nothing else, we can be certain that the nations we are now interacting with are more useful to us than those whose distant influence had once made us wary of causing any kind of upset. At this point, while we hold those distant powers at bay as well as we can through diplomacy and rhetoric, we must nonetheless prepare for a day where that diplomacy might finally fail. We must cultivate our new friends as well as we can, and hope that their strength will see us through that which ours alone cannot.” The anax nodded toward Kifisia. “This will be a matter for your office,” he said, “both in terms of our friends and our rivals. With luck, these friendships will bolster the cause of our diplomacy elsewhere, so that instead of certainly seeing war, we have a greater chance to maintain the peace.” Kerameikos considered the map one more time. “Exarcheia,” he said at length, “you say that you cannot hope to win a war with your current strength. The army, no doubt, suffers from its entrenchment in the southeast.” The basileus nodded. “In that case, our primary concern should be keeping any potential enemy from reaching our shores to engage the enemy in the first place,” the anax declared. Turning to his subordinates, Kerameikos said, “I intend for every one of you to strengthen the naval and air coverage of this nation, to prevent enemy incursions from any direction. The Office of Observation and Communication will increase its reach; we will discuss this matter with our friends in Dawinia, I think. And the navy…” Kerameikos thought for a bit. “Not all of our friends can be found in the League of Castratene,” he said finally. “And there is one friend, at least, whose technological skill has already been bringing dividends to our research centers.” Kerameikos reached for another sheet of his ever-present stationery as he looked directly at Basileus Kifisia. “Give word to Ambassador Patmos that his presence is required once again in Kenso.”

Nodding her head, Jung looks forward again. "The government is quite....paranoid when it comes to our technology. It's our pride and joy." The car pulls up to the end of the long tunnel, where a door labelled with a large red '76' begins to open. The lights inside all begin to turn on, showcasing nearly endless lines of ships of all sorts, archaic to modern, civilian to military. The more modern of the ships seem to be in drydocks, while the older generations seem to be setup like a museum display. Various personnel mill about the ships, some leading groups similar to the one the diplomats find themselves apart of. Clearly Kenso is vain enough to create a tourist attraction simply from their ships. Opening the door, Jung steps out; Michel moving up beside her. The two of them bow, Jung extending her hand towards a line that is clearly the cutting edge. "Welcome to the Immersion Tube." The Princess moves forward, to the first ship in line, an almost pitifully small one that seems unable to hold more than 10 people. "If I may ask, what are you searching for?" Ambassador Patmos considered the small craft currently in front of him and wondered if there might be some use for it on the rivers of the Peloponnese. The current conflict in Ionia had proven the excellent uses of river-capable gunboats to secure major supply routes, and the Peloponnese used its rivers in much the same fashion. Nonetheless, the riverboats in question were built in Achaian shipyards, and several of them had been produced in Ionia itself after the conquest of Sardeis; there was no need in Patmos’s mind to spend money on foreign construction, at least in this case. Instead, Patmos consulted a list that he had drawn up in consultation with the Basileus of Military Affairs, as well as the Basileus of Economics. Exarcheia in particular had been adamant in shoring up any perceived gaps in Achaian naval and aerial capabilities, in the hopes of preventing any possible enemy from even reaching Achaian Peloponnese, thus ensuring that the currently-distracted army would not be needed to push its enemies out. With that in mind… “Your Highness, I have been directed by Basileus Exarcheia of the Office of Military Affairs to request that I be able to observe and inspect Kenso’s available aircraft carriers, submarines, and aircraft. However,” and here the ambassador glanced at Neofytos, who nodded and rustled another paper in his hands, “I have also been asked to sound Kenso out for any other items that Your Highness or your government would recommend for purchase. Achaian Peloponnese looks to improve in any way possible, as long as we are capable of affording it; our corporations, as well as the Megaron, are willing to front whatever expenditure is necessary to develop technology that will keep the Achaian people safe, and to obtain foreign technology that can fulfill that mandate for as long as it takes for our own factories to pick up the slack.” |

Pursing her lips slightly, Jung contemplates the Ambassador's request, before nodding her head. Turning slightly, she removes the datapad in Michel's hands and begins to swipe. After a moment she turns on her heel, muttering to herself as she moves down the line of ships. "I'm afraid that without any more concrete details I can't show you all that we have." She looks at Patmos apologetically. "I'm sure you understand, with today's technology while you can make general purpose ships, many of Kenso's serve specific roles." Jung comes up to a grayish-black boat with a low sitting hull and a high up bridge. "Each ship in a class have different specifications according to their use and our need for them. An example would be our destroyers. The Atago class for has temporary hangers for helicopters, while the Zumwalt is used almost exclusively for stealth. Sejong the Great class however serves almost exclusively as a heavy combat ship, holding an almost obscene amount of weaponry for such a small craft." |

Patmos ignored Neofytos as his aide gave him a disbelieving glance, but he understood the younger man’s surprise. ‘She doesn’t really think we don’t understand the idea of purpose-built equipment, does she?’ he asked himself. More to the point, hadn’t he just explained what he needed to look at first? Regardless, the information relating to Kenso’s available destroyers was interesting and useful to the ambassador, and he nodded as the princess explained how each vessel was best utilized. “I appreciate the explanation, Your Highness,” Patmos said. “Indeed, I am especially interested in the applications of a stealth destroyer, and I would highly enjoy considering your Zumwalt-class when time allows. As I mentioned earlier, however, the Megaron has sent me specifically to look into purchasing aircraft carriers, submarines, and aircraft. Our primary aim is to detect and prevent any enemy from reaching our shores, and we are interested in closing any technological gap that might prevent us from achieving that goal.” |

Jung offers Patmos and Neofytos an apologetic, but businesslike smile, catching Neofytos's look. "Of course. I apologise if I insulted you, but it's merely protocol to give a brief explanation beforehand." Looking back down at her datapad, the Princess purses her lips. After a moment and a small nod to herself, Jung quickly walks down the dry dock aisle, which due to the length of the room takes some time. Finally the group comes upon a massive aircraft carrier. "This is the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier; however the builders called them 'heavy aircraft-carrying missile cruisers' on account of the 12 long range surface to surface long range missiles the ship is capable of holding. The class was named after a former Admiral of the Kenso Imperial Navy during the Heavenly Emperor Cyneric's reign. Currently, it is undergoing a modernisation retrofit in order to fulfill the standards set by the navy in all of it's ships." |

Ambassador Patmos sent a swift glare to Neofytos as the two followed Princess Jung through the facility; the last thing that the anax, or the ambassador himself, wanted at the present moment was a failure in dialogue between Achaian Peloponnese and Kenso, and any slight against the eldest princess in the nation was not likely to improve relations between the two nations at all. Nonetheless, it seemed that Princess Jung was willing to overlook this particular instance, and by offering an apology for her own behavior, she had left the Achaians with an easy out that Ambassador Patmos would have been a fool to pass off. “We understand completely, Your Highness,” he said. “Achaians also have a great deal of protocol that many might consider unnecessary. There is no need to apologize for that, I believe.” After the long walk, the ambassador looked upon the massive vessel before him and tried to imagine this Admiral Kuznetsov sailing in the Cathay Ocean under an Achaian banner. Patmos was careful not to let his contemplation turn into a fantasy of Achaian naval domination, but it was difficult when he considered how the Achaian navy might utilize a ship of this scale. “It is magnificent,” he said to Princess Jung. “Certainly it is more visually impressive than any ship in the Achaian navy at the moment. How many aircraft can this vessel hold?” |

"41-52 fixed wing and rotary aircraft, depending on the size and capabilities of the aircraft. For an example, one of the ships in the class currently in use by the KIN, utilises approximately 33 fixed wing aircraft and 12 rotary aircraft." Glancing behind her, Jung waves up Michel who clears his throat, glancing nervously to the princess. "As Oujo-hime said, the ship is also capable of utilising missiles. Currently, the standard configuration for the carrier is outfitted with eight Anti-Aircraft guns, eight Close in Weapons Systems mounts, 12 ship-to-ship missles, an anti-submarine system, and 24 vertical launching systems. Of course, all of these may be changed with other systems and the buyer may choose which model they would like to use for each weapon systems." "Currently, the ship can hold a total of 1960 crew members, 626 air group and 40 flag staff and has a overall total of 3857 rooms." Michel coughs lightly, sneaking a peak at the Princess of the Earth, who smiles encouragingly at the young man. "The standard tonnage for the vessel is 43,000 tons, although the maximum load is about 61,000 tons. The Admiral Kuznetsov is conventionally powered by eight gas-fired boilers and four steam turbines, each producing 50,000 hp (37 MW), driving four shafts with fixed-pitch propellers. Her maximum speed is 29 knots (54 km/h), and her range at maximum speed is 3,800 miles (6,100 km). At 18 knots (33 km/h), her maximum range is 8,500 miles (13,700 km)." |

Patmos glanced over at Neofytos, who was flipping through papers as Princess Jung’s guard spoke about the Admiral Kuznetsov’s particulars. The aide glanced up at the ambassador, who nodded to him, before turning to the guard with a smile. “Without a doubt, this vessel compares favorably to our current aircraft carrier. It is a much larger vessel with a much larger complement, of course, and certainly with greatly increased self-defense capabilities.” The aide turned back to Patmos long enough to say, “I seriously recommend purchasing at least one example of this vessel, sir.” Patmos nodded before turning back to Princess Jung and her guard with a smile. “Neofytos has proven to be more organized than most of the rest of our office,” he said. “If he recommends it, I’ll not gainsay him.” The ambassador gave the Admiral Kuznetsov another long look before turning his attention to the rest of the space around him. “If the rest of Kenso’s fleet is as impressive as this vessel, Your Highness, I can anticipate that the Megaron will maintain a high interest in Kensoan products well beyond our visit here today.” |

Jung smiles proudly before nodding her head. "I can assure you ambassador that all of Kenso's ships are top of the line. The older generation are currently undergoing or soon to be undergoing a modernisation retrofit, including the Admiral Kuznetsov here. Of course, our shipyards are willing to customise the ships according to Achaian Peloponnese's specifications." Pausing in he speech, the Princess scrolls through her datapad, for a moment a look of concentration on her face. After a moment, she turns around and begins to stroll to the next ship in line. "Next, I shall take you to see our two other carriers available. Unlike the Admiral Kuznetsov, the Izumo-class and Hyuga-class are both considered helicopter carriers. While they are unable to hold fixed wing aircraft, they are generally swifter and are able to fit more roles than a large aircraft carrier. With the rather rugged and inhospitable terrain in Kenso and the surrounding region, it has become vital to field these types of carriers since rotary aircraft can go places where a fixed wing cannot." The small group comes up to the next two vessels, each larger than the others down the line but no where near the size of the Kuznetsov. Michel hands a second datapad to Jung, who then holds it out to Patmos and Neofytos; a 3D image of the Hyuga and Izumo are side by side on the screen. |

Ambassador Patmos looked over these two vessels with a more critical eye. They were impressive, to be sure, but at the same time… “I mean no disrespect, Your Highness, but Achaian Peloponnese currently fields a vessel designed primarily to field helicopters.” That didn’t prevent the Achaian navy from retrofitting ramps onto the deck and fielding larger jets on those vessels, but the Kiev was nonetheless designed with little to no landing room, mainly for the use of helicopters. Purchases had been made to reinforce these vessels with additional planes that were more useful in these cramped conditions, thankfully. Neofytos, looking over the produced designs alongside the ambassador, glanced at his superior for permission to speak; Patmos nodded, curious about the other man’s concern. “Your Highness, may I ask if the same electronic warfare systems in place on these vessels are present on the Admiral Kuznetsov?” |

"The Admiral Kuznetsov class is currently undergoing a modernisation overhaul to update it's electronic systems. All newly built ships will have all modern electronic warfare systems already present. Are there any more questions regarding the Kuznetsov?" Jung nods to Michel, who stepping forward, swipes to the right on the diplomat's datapad, showing slightly smaller, but clearly better armed ships. |

“No, Your Highness; thank you,” Neofytos said. He was relieved, at least, that any Kiev patrolling in a convoy that included an Admiral Kuznetsov would still benefit from advanced electronic warfare systems; otherwise the Achaian navy might have felt it best to scrap the entire fleet of Kiev-class carriers and replace them with Kensoan Izumo-class ships. Patmos gave his aide a questioning look, but was satisfied by the young man’s smile. Obviously whatever concern had caught his technically-minded aide’s eye had been resolved. The ambassador turned his attention back to the Kensons as Princess Jung’s guard stepped forward to change the image on the datapad in his hands. Patmos nodded as images of smaller, well-armed warships appeared. “As you might imagine, Your Highness, the Megaron is quite in love with guns and missiles. May I ask what lovers you are introducing to us now?” |

Both of the Kensoans give Patmos a bewildered and confused look. The two look at each other for a moment, before finally staring at Patmos, wondering if he will say something just as perplexing. After a moment, Michel whispers into the Princess's ear, who slowly nods and attempts to regain some semblance of a business like expression. "Er...yes? Would you like to see our line of destroyers?" Jung glances at Patmos again before looking at Michel for support, who simply shrugs. "Kenso offers the Sejeong the Great class, the Zumwalt, and the Atago class destroyers. Which would you like to see first?" Edited by Kenso, Oct 8 2014, 03:52 AM.

Ambassador Patmos glanced from Princess Jung to her guard and back, before finally accepting that his compliment had passed right by his hosts. He chose to simply ignore their astonished gazes, and focused instead on the pertinent question. “Achaian Peloponnese’s naval capabilities have, somewhat accidentally, recently been most focused on striking at approaching enemies either through speed or stealth. However, ship-to-ship strength has begun to falter as a result. We would be most interested in viewing whatever vessel Your Highness would recommend to provide a direct defense against warships intending to attack Achaian Peloponnese.” |

Jung nods at Michel, who moves forward to change the pictures in front of the two diplomats."The Zumwalt class is built primarily for stealth, while the Atago serves as a more versatile ship that can fit multiple roles. The Sejong the Great-class on the other hand, would be best suited towards heavy ship-to-ship combat. The Sejong the Great is essentially a scaled up version of the Atago with a much larger armament, more weapon capabilities and a greater speed. Unfortunately, it removes the versatility that makes the Atago so popular and able to fit many roles in the KIN." |
