Anax Kerameikos shook his head as he considered the current situation. “This tension is becoming burdensome,” he said aloud. “We have just seen the end of a war, and already the nations of Noverra scramble to find factional friends to defend themselves against the next. We can only be worried that our own actions might have contributed to the current… discomfort.” The other officials in his office—Basileus Kifisia, Basileus Exarcheia, Basileus Kypseli, Minister Peiraias, and Minister Pagkrati—all winced slightly. Kerameikos nodded as he saw it. “It is nothing we could have helped, if we were to maintain our dignity,” he said. “But now we must see if our participation in the League of Castratene will bear fruit. Certainly we have gained friends in the matter—more, I think, than we have ever had before—but we are ill prepared to back up the strong rhetoric of criticism that we offered to those we must now consider our rivals, whose actions drove us into the company of governments even we once considered threats to world peace.” Basileus Exarcheia nodded grimly. “As always, sir, our military is prepared for war,” he said. “But as prepared as it might be, it is not capable of victory against a great power. We will have to depend more than we prefer on the nations surrounding us.” “All the more reason that we should focus our minds on diplomacy and see if we can untangle ourselves from these disagreements,” Basileus Kifisia said in return. “If we cannot survive a war, let us avoid fighting one.” Peiraias shook his head. “War does not follow every disagreement,” he said. “And we should be thankful for that, as otherwise Noverra would long ago have crumbled to dust. Disagreement, after all, is a constant in international diplomacy. We cannot please everyone, and there is more than enough reason to believe that few other nations will ever please us.” The minister glanced at the map. “We cannot expect a superpower to mind its own business, no matter how stridently we demand it,” he pointed out wryly. “At the same time, though, no one can expect us to sit back calmly and accept that fact. And the superpower in question has so far been a reasonable negotiator—” “It has sometimes been a reasonable negotiator,” Kifisia cut in. She flushed as her superior shot her a look, but pressed on to add, “Ambassador Delos reported the actions of Gilead’s crown prince to me personally. Gilead has always… indulged us, for lack of a better word, but now that we stand firmly against their actions in Izalith, there is every chance that their indulgence will come to an end, and Gilead’s ‘reasonability’ will come to an end with it.” Anax Kerameikos nodded. “It is a fair point,” he said. “If nothing else, we can be certain that the nations we are now interacting with are more useful to us than those whose distant influence had once made us wary of causing any kind of upset. At this point, while we hold those distant powers at bay as well as we can through diplomacy and rhetoric, we must nonetheless prepare for a day where that diplomacy might finally fail. We must cultivate our new friends as well as we can, and hope that their strength will see us through that which ours alone cannot.” The anax nodded toward Kifisia. “This will be a matter for your office,” he said, “both in terms of our friends and our rivals. With luck, these friendships will bolster the cause of our diplomacy elsewhere, so that instead of certainly seeing war, we have a greater chance to maintain the peace.” Kerameikos considered the map one more time. “Exarcheia,” he said at length, “you say that you cannot hope to win a war with your current strength. The army, no doubt, suffers from its entrenchment in the southeast.” The basileus nodded. “In that case, our primary concern should be keeping any potential enemy from reaching our shores to engage the enemy in the first place,” the anax declared. Turning to his subordinates, Kerameikos said, “I intend for every one of you to strengthen the naval and air coverage of this nation, to prevent enemy incursions from any direction. The Office of Observation and Communication will increase its reach; we will discuss this matter with our friends in Dawinia, I think. And the navy…” Kerameikos thought for a bit. “Not all of our friends can be found in the League of Castratene,” he said finally. “And there is one friend, at least, whose technological skill has already been bringing dividends to our research centers.” Kerameikos reached for another sheet of his ever-present stationery as he looked directly at Basileus Kifisia. “Give word to Ambassador Patmos that his presence is required once again in Kenso.”

Ambassador Patmos nodded as he considered the ‘lovers’ that Princess Jung described. “Certainly there is no firm limit to Achaian Peloponnese’s interest in Kenso’s available products,” he said. “While it sounds as if the Sejong the Great-class will take most of our interest in this matter, the versatility of the Atago has caught my interest as well. And there is no doubt that Achaian Peloponnese would benefit from the stealth capabilities offered by the Zumwalt-class.” Patmos nodded. “I would be interested in negotiating a purchase including all three of these models, with special focus on the Sejong the Great and the Zumwalt; our final purchase decisions will depend on the number of purchases we eventually decide to make here, of course, but I will do my best to include at least some models of these vessels in the final order.” The ambassador glanced over at Neofytos, who jotted down notes on the sheets in front of him. “I don’t believe we have any other notable gaps in our service fleet at the moment…” Neofytos shook his head. “Not that the Office of Military Affairs has reported, at any rate,” he said. “I imagine they’ll have their hands full with whatever new equipment we bring home with us anyway.” Patmos nodded. Turning back to Princess Jung, he said, “Your Highness, as I said earlier, I would very much like to see any vessel that you and your government would recommend for our use. But at the moment it might be quicker to move directly to the specific items we came here to purchase. I would be very grateful if we could turn our attention next to the KIN’s available submarines.” |

Giving a pleasant smile, Jung bows slightly before turning her attention to her datapad. The Princess types rapidly on the screen, most likely sending orders to those directly responsible for overseeing foreign exports/orders. After a few moments, she nods, satisfied with whatever it was she was doing. "Of course. This being in addition to the Admiral Kuznetsov correct? Of course, our shipyards have other ships available to you that are of smaller classes and serve more specific purposes for whenever Achain Peloponnese wishes for more." Giving Michel a look, Jung begins to move back the way they came, the trip once more taking several minutes. " I apologise for the amount of walking, however currently the carts used for passengers are being used.... and I prefer the exercise." Passing the aircraft and helicopter carriers the group have already seen, they come upon two submarines, one black and one grey. "Kenso currently fields and constructs two classes of submarine for military use: the Soryu-class and the Oyashio-class submarine. The Soryu is the newest class, and just recently entered military service. The Oyashio on the other hand has been in use for at least 20 years. Unfortunately, Kenso does not utilise nuclear submarines if that is what you are searching for, so both make use of diesel electricity." |

Patmos nodded. “Achaian Peloponnese currently does not field nuclear-fueled weapons or vessels. It is much easier for us to purchase oil-based fuels than it is to obtain nuclear material. We’re more than happy to consider these vessels.” The ambassador gave the two submarines a long look before saying, “To my untrained eye, these vessels seem very much alike. Does the Soryu-class improve on the design of the Oyashio in any specific way, Your Highness?” |

Jung nods. "Yes the Soryu is essentially an upgraded version of the Oyashio. While having a shorter range, the Soryu has upgraded speed and capabilities related to staying within a certain area. The Soryu also boasts a larger armament of close-medium range missiles and also had the possibility of using long range cruise missiles; if you wishes to utilise them some modifications must be made, but of course any modification is within reason as long as we are compensated accordingly." Michel and Jung both snort, thinking about the rather ridiculous pink submarine outfitted as a pleasure submarine that was recently commissioned for a private buyer. |

Patmos nodded along. “Achaian Peloponnese is interested in stopping any potential threat well before it becomes an actual one,” he said. “We are extremely interested in long-range capabilities, whether that be via missile or ‘in-person,’ as it were.” He considered the princess’s description for a long moment. “Your Highness,” he said finally, “Achaian Peloponnese would be interested in purchasing at least some examples of both of these models.” The ambassador looked over the two submarines one more time before turning his full attention to Princess Jung and her guard once again. “If it is not too much trouble, Your Highness, I would like to request that we be allowed to browse through the vessels that we have not yet discussed if time allows later today. At the moment, though, I ask that we be allowed to move on to aircraft. The Office of Military Affairs and its corporate partners seek to use air power as another means of long-range deterrence against foreign aggression, and we would like to be sure that our forces will be up to the task.” |

"Of course, Ambassador. Michel here will be able to assist you later and show you whichever ships you are interested in. As for viewing aircraft, we must travel to the next....facility over. It's of a different layout than this area, due to the difference in usage." The raven haired princess turns around and begins walking to the exit, Michel gesturing for the foreigners to follow. "Due to the rugged terrain, Kenso mainly utilises helicopters, however the use of fixed wing aircraft is essential not only to remain secure in the region, but to retain interest in Kensoan manufacturing. Besides aircraft is there anything else you are interested in? Simply so that I am able to inform the facilities that there will be visitors." |

Patmos glanced over at Neofytos, who shook his head. Turning back to Princess Jung, the ambassador said, “I believe that our needs will be met with a tour of your available aircraft, Your Highness. It is possible that the Megaron may ask me to return on a later date for additional materials, but my current orders are to purchase aircraft and certain naval vessels. I do not believe there will be any need to alert any additional facilities to prepare for unexpected guests, Your Highness.” |

The Princess gives Patmos a bright smile before nodding her head as the group reaches the car. The black sedan drives for about 30 minutes down the entrance tunnel, passing various military cargo trucks and numbered doors once again. Eventually, the group reaches a door numbered '60' in big red letters. Jung and Michel have a brief conversation in Kensoan, before Michel looks over to the driver, uttering a brief sentence to the man. "I apologise, but to get into the aircraft demo area, there has to be security clearance." Jung taps on her datapad briefly, before handing it up to Michel. The large door opens to show essentially an airstrip along with hangars all along the side. Various aircrafts of varying eras lie inside, similar to the Immersion Tube the group just left. Peculiar enough, there seems to be various, extremely large elevator lifts large enough to fit cargo planes. As the car drives forward, an aircraft taxi's onto on of the lifts, which then rises into the air into the ceiling where another, open door awaits. Essentially, the entire facility acts as a hangar deck for an airfield on the surface. "Ambassador, which would you like to view first? Our technicians and the various flight crews are prepared to show you various fighters, helicopters, and drones if you would like." Michel hands the two foreigners the same datapad from earlier; this time 3D models of the Rafale, the F-2, helicopters, and a drone are displayed on the screen. |

Ambassador Patmos looked at the data in front of him and nodded, impressed. “The Megaron has asked us to pay the most attention to Kenso’s available fighter jets,” he said. “I am most interested in this ‘Rafale’ model, but of course while we are here, I will not refuse to consider the F-2.” “I apologize, Your Highness, Ambassador,” said Neofytos suddenly, “but if I may suggest that we view the fighters later?” The aide pointed toward the drone listed on the datapad. “The Megaron is most interested in combat vehicles, of course, but I believe the anax would at least want to consider acquiring unmanned aircraft such as this. At the moment, the Megaron views them as tools that other nations might use to spy on us, but Achaian Peloponnese does no less surveillance over its own territory and over its territorial waters. It would be wise of us to have some vehicle that would allow us to do that without any risk to a pilot’s life.” Patmos considered Neofytos’s suggestion for a moment before he nodded. Turning back to Princess Jung, the ambassador said, “I believe that my aide’s suggestion has great merit, Your Highness. While I remain extremely interested in Kenso’s combat-capable aircraft, I would be remiss if I failed to consider this unmanned aircraft due to forgetfulness. Could we look at this vehicle first?” |

"Of course. Right this way please." Jung extends her hand to the nearest hangar, before she follows afterwards. Coming into the hangar, dozens of white rather unassuming aircraft of varying sizes and builds lay inside in the hangar, various technicians milling about around the drones. Jung scrolls through her datapad for a moment, before she begins to speak. "Let's start off with the MQ-9. The typical MQ-9 system is composed of multiple aircraft, ground-control stations, satellites, and flight and maintenance crews. The aircraft is powered by a 950 horsepower turboprop, with a maximum speed of about 260 knots and a cruising speed of 150-170 knots . With a 20 m wingspan, and a maximum payload of 1,700 kg, the MQ-9 can be armed with a variety of weaponry, including various missiles and 500-lb laser-guided bomb units. Nicknamed 'The Reaper', the MQ-9 has a range of 1,000 nautical miles and an operational altitude of 15,000 m, which makes it especially useful for long-term loitering operations, both for surveillance and support of ground troops." The Princess pauses for a moment to catch her breath. "Next up is the, MQ-4C Triton, which is our newest drone, is currently still being produced and tested, so the few models you see here are prototypes. The drone is specially designed for maritime surveillance and coastal, and oceanic reconnaissance. In the interest of some secrecy, I will forward you the file on the MQ-4C due to it still being considered a developing technology of Kenso." "Our final drone option is the MQ-1 Predator. Our oldest, and most used UAV in Kenso; it is also our most reliable, although this is due more to the number of missions ran as opposed to the Reaper, which was developed within the last five years. In the interest of time, I can also forward the Predator's file to you at a later point." |

Ambassador Patmos considered the information that Princess Jung had provided with a slight frown. How could he make a determination in the current negotiations to purchase this or that product when he could only look forward to information being sent to him--or at least, to Achaian Peloponnese--at a later date? All that said, he did have the MQ-9’s basic information to consider, and he had to admit that an unmanned weapons carrier would be no less useful for the Achaians’ conflicts both within and outside of the Peloponnese than an unmanned surveillance craft; combining the two ideas would be all to the good. “I certainly look forward to receiving that information, Your Highness,” the ambassador said with a smile. “The Megaron will likely take a more serious interest in the purchase of unmanned vehicles with that in mind. Nonetheless, with the information you’ve given me just now, I will be certain to strongly consider the purchase of at least some MQ-9s when we come to that stage.” Patmos considered the data in front of him for another moment before he nodded to himself and said, “If there is nothing else, Your Highness, I would be most grateful to move on to Kenso’s fighter aircraft.” |

Jung bows to Patmos, before leading the group out of the hangar and into the next one. Substantially larger than the other one, various fighters stand side to side inside, each painted a dull gray colour. "Kenso offers three fighters native to our country. The ATD-X Shinshin, our newest fighter and currently being implented in our naval and air forces, the F-2, a tired and true design, and the Rafale, which serves as a multipurpose fighter." Michel moves up next to Patmos to show him the descriptions and scaled models of all the fighters. After a moment, Jung clears her throat and makes eye contact with Michel. Giving her aide a small nod of her head, Michel straightens up before sliding to show a rather.....unique fighter. "...We currently have a fighter that is soon to exit it's testing phase. In an attempt to maintain air superiority, the Emperor asked for the development of a new fighter: the F/A 37 'Talon'. My father has cleared us to show you one of the prototypes if you would like to view it, that is." |

Ambassador Patmos nodded as he considered the designs set before him. Of course the newer designs immediately caught his attention, simply because they would presumably be built with the most highly developed technology available, but considering Princess Jung’s previous assurances of Kensoan modernization policies regarding their older equipment--admittedly in the context of warships as opposed to warplanes, but there was no reason to believe that Kenso would leave itself vulnerable in the air--the ambassador did not immediately turn away from the older models on offer. Indeed, in this case the newer models were almost less interesting, as Patmos looked first at the ATD-X and saw that it was listed as a technology demonstrator rather than a frontline fighter of its own. Certainly the technologies it represented would prove to be impressive--Patmos was especially impressed with the notion of stealth fighter technology--but until they were integrated into an actual warplane design, the most Achaian Peloponnese could expect from purchases of this kind were of a research tool. It would be useful, but it would most certainly not grace the decks of any purchased Admiral Kuznetsov-class carrier. Patmos was much more interested in one of the two designs currently in service, the Rafale. The data in front of the ambassador certainly indicated that this machine was among the best of its kind: a semi-stealthy fighter with extremely impressive armaments, agility, and speed. A variant could be based on carriers, though Patmos assumed that the small Kiev-class fielded by Achaian Peloponnese would not be able to hold them; the two very new Clemenceau-class vessels could be expected to do better. And adding the Kuznetsov-class purchases to that roster would make such a weapon even more useful for the Megaron’s purposes. Certainly with weapons like these, the Cathay approach to Achaian Peloponnese would be much more easily patrolled, and much less easily exploited. Of course, there was the matter of this other prototype plane, as well… “Your Highness,” Ambassador Patmos began, “I believe all of these fighters deserve a great deal of attention. I will say that I believe Achaian Peloponnese will likely find the most use out of your Rafale, especially if we spread our purchase across several variants. I do believe, though, that the research opportunities afforded to Kenso by the Shinshin can be utilized by our forces as well, and we would be happy to purchase a few examples of this plane for testing purposes.” Patmos considered the data again before finishing, “As for Your Highness’s question, we would be most pleased to observe your new F/A-37. We are extremely grateful for the opportunity.” |

Jung gives Patmos a smile, before looking at Michel almost smugly at the disappointed and near distressed expression on his face. "I would be honored to show you the prototype. Please excuse Michel here, as a military officer he doesn't necessarily approve of showing Kensoan technology to foreigners, especially new technology." Jung's smile becomes slightly more sinister as she continues to look at Michel. "Even when the Kenso's primary export is technology in the first place, and the Emperor approves of our dealings." The Princess clears her throat, lifting a hand to her mouth. After a moment, her smile returns to it's usual soft, and polite expression. "If you will, please follow me gentleman. We will be moving to the runway, one of the prototypes has already begun being prepped on the runway for our viewing." The two Kensoans move to the entrance of the hangar, directly in front of where an all black fighter with red highlights and a star on each wing. "This is the Kenso Imperial Air Force's variant of the F/A-37. As opposed to the Imperial Navy's version nicknamed the Talon; the Air Force has a tendency to name their equipment after mythical figures from Kenso's past, therefore they call this the 'Black Knight'. The 'Black Knight', and by extension the Talon has stealth capability, along with movable, forward sweep, switchblade wings, an internal cannon for close-in fights, and an internal rotary launcher with a wide variety of ordnance including a M61A2 vulcan cannon, GAU-12 Equalizer, AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles, AGM-88 HARM anti-radiation missiles, AGM-130 air-to-surface missiles, FAEs or fuel air explosives, and Truncheon implosion bombs. While the Talon utilises a pulse detonation engine, the Air Force variant uses a scram jet engine however both are made by Soryu Heavy Industries. With a range of 4,000 nautical miles, and a top speed of Mach 4 (and possibly greater), the F/A-37 and it's variants are a force to be reckoned with." The 'Black Knight' begins to moves it's wing's flaps up and down as various personnel mill about the fighter. The glass cockpit lies open as the pilot runs through various checks, a technician standing on a ladder beside him. "As you can tell, the F/A-37 only requires a single pilot. To assist with this, the fighter is equipped with a Common Integrated Processor, a central "brain" capable of making damage assessments, not just on enemy forces, but on collateral and civilian casualties as well. The CIP can make complex calculations, like estimating nuclear fallout, or projecting odds of survival. Along with this, the HUD of the F/A-37 features a view-screen for each wingman. Controls are streamlined; the computer communicates through voice and projection displays. The Talons have transponders that directly linked with the pilots home base or a carrier's advanced flight center." Jung coughs slightly. "At one point we were considering adding a self destruct mechanism to the fighter in the case of system failure, but realised that would be slightly absurd considering we currently don't intend on keeping the fighter a secret or exclusive to Kenso." "As you know, Kenso also uses the ATD-X primarily as a technology demonstrator. Depending on the results of research from the ATD-X and the subsequent fighter that the ATD-X will be turned into, the F/A-37 will eventually be outfitted with stealth technology." |

Ambassador Patmos nodded sympathetically to the military officer, ‘Michel’ as Princess Jung had named him. “I completely understand the instinct toward secrecy,” he said. “Achaian Peloponnese, as a militarized nation, requires secrecy in order to function. I am extremely conscious of the fact that Kenso is making a sacrifice by revealing its military developments. The Megaron thanks your government and military for making these products available to the international market; rest assured that we do not intend to see you uncompensated for your efforts.” The ambassador returned his attention to Princess Jung. “Your Highness, I am more than impressed with these machines,” he said. “It would be extremely remiss of me to ignore their capabilities. I believe I can say with all certainty that Achaian Peloponnese will be ordering at least a few examples of your F/A-37, as a credit to Soryu Heavy Industries and the nation of Kenso.” Patmos gave another glance to the plane as it powered up its systems, before asking Princess Jung, “Your Highness, how soon will this machine enter mass-production?” |
