![]() For Fair and Enjoyable Role Play The Consent Party takes its name from the idea that role play can only succeed with the consent of its participants. This is taken both from principle and from fact, and it forms the core tenet of this party: Mutual consent of all parties shall be obtained for all in-character interactions. This tenet is derived from principle. NationStates, and the role play of its regions, forums, and off-site communities, including the Supreme Union, is first and foremost a game. This game is meant to provide enjoyment to all of its players, who are permitted to fulfill a fantasy of their choosing by entering the gaming community and ruling a nation to their specifications. The Consent Party advocates for the mutual consent of all participants when entering into a role play scenario because players who are forced, either in or out of character, to take roles they do not wish to take are players whose fantasies have been broken, and whose enjoyment of the game has ended. This defeats the purpose of the game, which is to enjoy the fantastic diversion that NationStates provides. This tenet is derived from fact. Membership in the Supreme Union, and participation in NationStates, is entirely voluntary. Nothing and no one within the Supreme Union or NationStates can force any player to stay involved with the game and with role play. Players retain interest in the game through their enjoyment of the diversion, and when they enjoy the diversion less than they are frustrated by the actions of their fellow players and bored by the unwanted role they are told to play, they leave. This is not only distressing on a personal level, but it constitutes a danger to the Supreme Union as an organization, which cannot continue to exist without the participation of its members. The Consent Party recognizes reasonable limits to this general policy, relating to the practical realities of the Supreme Union. This region, as advertised and established, is home to realistic modern-technology role play only; this region asks its members to adhere to general rules of behavior in out-of-character discussion and in-character public posts; and this region’s Constitution establishes the existence of a Council whose members are tasked with regulating and moderating all activity in the Supreme Union. Together, these factors often infringe upon the freedom of individual players to enact their fantasies and enjoy the game as much as they otherwise would. The Consent Party believes that reasonable restrictions on individual actions, according to the established boundaries of the region as a whole, act to ensure the enjoyment of players in common. Within these broad parameters, the Consent Party believes that each player is entitled to run his or her national role play as he or she decides, providing that it affects no one else; and the Consent Party firmly advocates the principle of mutual consent in multi-national matters, so as not to infringe on the individual player’s desire to build and maintain a nation and government of his or her own. Overall, the Consent Party advocates cooperation and collaboration in the development of role play, and firmly opposes coercion of any kind. Members of the Consent Party can be expected to stand up for the right of any player to refuse to take part in role play explicitly involving him or her without his or her agreement or consent. Members of the Consent Party can also be expected to protest the use of false pretenses to lure players into agreeing to a role play scenario that ultimately develops contrary to these false assurances. Just as importantly, members of the Consent Party can be expected to differentiate between the unavoidable variations of role play that occur by chance over time, and the deliberate sabotage of any player’s role play experience by another; members of the party can be expected to censure those responsible for the latter scenario, and hold those caught up in the former to be blameless. Under the Council system, only members of the Council can implement policy in the Supreme Union. Thus, while members of the Consent Party can be expected to advocate for mutual consent in all role play interaction, party members must abide by Council rulings. To establish the Consent Party’s central tenet as official policy of the Supreme Union, citizens of this region are asked to vote #1 for members of the Consent Party in every Council election. * * * The Consent Party will accept applications from any citizen of the Supreme Union who stands by the principle of mutual consent and interaction for role play. Citizens of the Supreme Union who are members of other political parties are welcome to apply to the Consent Party, provided that their other party obligations do not contradict the principle of mutual consent in role play. Any citizen interested in joining the Consent Party is asked to post a request to join in this thread. |

A fair party indeed, I should like to join. This comes as a surprise even to me considering my general disagreement towards the formation of political parties. |
