CONSERVATIVES WIN LANDSLIDE CASTRATENE, Austiana - The Conservative Party have won the Austianese General Elections in a landslide, winning both the Congress and the Presidency with an overwhelming majority. Guido Westerwelle, a long time Conservative opposition leader in the Congress, has won the Presidency with a historic margin of over 10 million votes, defeating the poor performing incumbent, President Katja Kipping after two terms of sluggish economic recovery. Pre-polling suggested that the Conservatives were going to win today's general election, but not to this extent. Many suggest that President Kipping's poor performance in the debates, and a number of gaffes on the campaign trail in recent days, may have contributed to the dramatic decline of the Liberal Democratic Party at today's election. "I am honoured and grateful by the overwhelming support of my fellow Austianese today." President-Elect, Guido Westerwelle said to a large crowd at his victory speech at Heden Stadium in Dunka moments ago, "The people of Austiana have sent a loud and clear message that they're sick of Liberal lies and economic mismanagement. They're sick of this government's pathetic isolationist policy, and they're sick of Izalith appeasement. The people of Austiana want a change, and as President I will deliver that change. Change we need." The emotional incumbent President, Katja Kipping, spoke to a more sombre crowd of Liberal Democrats in Castratene earlier today, and after 8 years in the Presidence, said she would retire from politics. "The last 8 years have been difficult, but I believe like many in Austiana, we made strong choices for the future of this country. However, today I must retire from politics. While Austiana is entering a new phase, so shall I. Thank you all for your support, God bless." President-Elect Guido Westerwelle has promised an overhaul of the welfare system, increase in military expenditure and closer relations with Gilead as top priorities for his first year. A focal point of his campaign has been Izalith's aggressive political and military behaviour towards Victorium and Gilead in the past 8 months. Westerwelle took advantage of angry public sentiment over Izalith and President Kipping's handling of the aggression, and has vowed to 'stand up to Izalith'. "The Empire is only strong because we make them strong!" The President-Elect said at his victory speech, "If we stand in solidarity, and show The Empire that we're a force to be reckoned with, we shall triumph!" Controversially, the Nationalist Party, a Far-Right political organisation with fascist roots, won 7 Congressional seats this election. Many attribute this success to the Nationalist Party's growing grass-roots campaign, and it's strong Anti-Immigration stance. "The Nationalist Party wants to keep Austiana, Austianese." Nationalist Party Leader, Helmut Kohl, chanted at his victory speech in Juler, in Austiana's west. Kohl won a 50.01% majority in the seat of Juler after preferences in a hard fought campaign against the Conservative candidate, "Now we have the ability to work with Congress to secure our borders, and maintain our way of life." The Greens Socialist Party, like the LDP, also saw a dramatic defeat this election. Down from 13 seats, the Greens only maintained the seat of Werner in the country's south. "We will rebound. This backlash against the left is only due to the right's capitalisation on people's fear. We will be back." Greens leader, Sigmar Gabriel, who maintained his seat of Werner and is now the only Green in Congress. It is expected that the President-Elect and the President-Incumbent will both receive calls from global leaders tonight. Guido Westerwelle will be sworn in as President tomorrow by the National Court. Edited by Anglea, Jan 1 2015, 04:09 AM.

Presidential Manor The President of the Union of Gileadan States, Gregory Romulus Austin, leaned back into his brown leather chair with his Vice President and Foreign Affairs Minister standing in front of his mahogany desk. Vice President Anton Alberts was an active one, in spite of his old age. He helped to push through tax reforms and revived nuclear energy. However, at times he proved to be a thorn in the President's side, pushing the boundaries of his office. Nevertheless, his service to the nation was founded in patriotism, an inexorable resource in his case. He aspired to be sitting where the President was at that very moment, but he knew that all he needed was adequate patience to catch the opportunity before it whisked away or he found himself grasping too early. He stood, from the President's perspective, on the left. Foreign Affairs Minister Addison Banks stood on the right. He was a tall, young, brazen man who could seemingly bear any burden and brave any storm. His allegiance to the President was just as strong. For years the Minister had proven again and again that he would do anything for his President. The three of them had all received news of the election results over in Austiana. President Austin broke the ice, "Please, please, you guys take a load off. You act as if there's just been a terrorist attack." "Well excuse me," VP Alberts responded, "However, we have now, in Austiana, the potential to forge a new path on which Victorium might rise up against the strongarm of Izalith's politics and I'd damn well like to hear what it is we plan to do with this opportunity." Minister Banks looked at his Vice President with a mixture of disgust and respect; no one should dare speak the President in such a manner, yet the VP was one among few who ever dared. The President never stopped leaning in his chair, and his eyes communicated that his attention was not fully with the men before him. Nonetheless, he responded to his second-in-command, "Anton, please keep that tone for your grandchildren...if they ever so graciously grant you an audience." "Mr. President," Addison interceded, "Shall we go forward with the plans for a state dinner? I have the invitation letter set and ready." "Hmm," went the President, his eyes now fixed on the painting directly across from him depicting Gileadan soldiers delivering rations to starved children from the Gemmori Isles. "I will personally call the President-elect to congratulate him and invite him over to other side of the pond. But pls do keep all other plans intact. Oh, and Anton, please stop looking so disappointed. If you spent more time attending briefings here than attending minor ceremonies, you'd be in the loop. You are dismissed, both of you." "Yes sir, Mr. President. Thank you." came the reply from both men almost simultaneously. --- President Austin put in the call as soon as he was alone. He straightened his tie as he waited for his secretary to put him through. Even though he wouldn't be meeting the soon to be president of Austiana face to face, it had become a habit of his to tighten his tie before formal communication of any sort. "Hello?" |

A figure sits in his office looking over the hills sprinkled with homes and lights. He takes a small drag from his cigar and places it on the table beside him. His shadow hangs over his desk, covering a newspaper that reads "Консервативната председател, избран в Austiana" (Conservative President elected in Austiana). Rene turns from the window and takes a seat at the desk. Picking up the paper, he carefully goes over the article, "Новоизбраният президент Гидо Вестервеле обеща преразглеждане на системата за социални грижи , се увеличи през военните разходи и по-тесни връзки с Gilead като основни приоритети за първата си година ." (President-Elect Guido Westerwelle has promised an overhaul of the welfare system, increase in military expenditure and closer relations with Gilead as top priorities for his first year.). His quite reading is interrupted by a knock on his door. Glancing up from his newspaper President Rene pushes a small blue button at the front right edge of his desk, sending a small electrical charge to the hinges on the door, unlocking it. Speaking in Bulgarian, the President's office secretary walks in carrying a small yellow telegram. "President Rene, A telegram has just arrived from the office of the Prime Minister." The secretary hands the telegram to Rene, who takes it, and nods his head with a smile. The secretary smiles back to the President, and returns to her desk in the lobby. President Rene did not talk much to his staff, in fact, he did not talk much at all. He was a reclusive man, enveloped in his own self conscious. He only spoke when it was absolutely necessary, and knew when to hold his tongue. It had become a small honor to receive more than a few words from the President, who only spoke in short sentences with co-workers, or during meetings. The Telegram that the President was holding read: "Г-н президент . Ако сте прочели новините напоследък , ще са видели , че в Austiana нов лидер е бил избран , това е моят съвет , който да достигне до него и го изпратете ни най-скъпа поздравително . Ако трябва да се говори с мен повече за това, аз съм на посещение в мина в Анка . Можете да се свържете с мен 44-91-32 . Благодаря." -------- (Mr. President. If you have read the news lately, you will have seen that in Austiana a new leader has been elected, it is my advice that you reach out to him and send him our dearest welcoming. If you need to talk to me more about this, I am visiting a mine in Anka. You can reach me at 44-91-32. Thank you.) An informal address the President thought to himself. His eyes moved from the pale yellow of the telegram over to the red phone on his desk. Pressing the number for his secretary he picked up the phone and waited... "Hello Mr. President, what can I do for you?" "Transfer me to the Government of Austiana. Tell them it's Rene." "Yessir Mr. President, Please Hold." ----- The Hold music was a familiar Bruvalkian Folk tune that reminded Rene of his summers in Apostol.... |

President-Elect Guido Westerwelle, retiring to his hotel room in Dunka after giving his victory speech, was anticipating a call from various foreign leaders. To his surprise, the first call came from Gilead. Guido was an admirer of Gilead and President Austin's conservative leaning government, and was aware that his predecessor President Kipping had an estranged relationship with President Austin. He wanted to ensure that in his Presidency, no such tension will be present. He was handed the phone by his Congressional (and soon to be Presidential) Chief of Staff. Understanding this would be his first dialogue with President Austin, Guido took a deep breath and answered. "Mr. President, it is an honour." Guido answered, removing all anxiety and fear from his voice, "How are you, sir?" OOC: I will respond to Bruvalkia's President after I've had this conversation with Gilead's President, and Valkany shall receive a communique in response shortly. "I am well, and I assume your victory means that you are more than well. I must congratulate your great accomplishment and extend my fondest of hope for your success in the near and far future." President Austin looked at the painting across from his desk and addressed the president-elect further, "Mr. Westerwelle, I understand that you intend to improve relations between our nations. I couldn't find a better way to begin such a task than to have a state dinner here at the Presidential House to both celebrate your victory and mark the beginning of a new partnership." His eyes fell down to look at his tie, making sure that it was straight while waiting for a response from the other end of the call. |

"That is a brilliant proposition, Mr President." Westerwelle said into the phone, trying particularly hard to understand the President thick Gileadean accent, "I'm sure as you are aware, it is my primary goal to get Gileadean-Austianese relations back on track. Unfortunately, my predecessor was not fully accepting of the importance of our alliance, but nonetheless I shall try and right those wrongs. Thank you Mr President, I shall ensure that my secretaries will be in contact with yours to iron out the details of this event." Guido's attention was averted from the phone and to his Chief of Staff, who pointed at his phone and whispered. "... the President of Bruvalkia is on the other line." Guido nodded, but signalled to him to wait. He would wait until President Austin was finished, this he felt, was a much more important call. |

"Indeed. Now, you must tell, how is your nation truly fairing? I'd rather not rely on media reports. With all the bias flying around, it's hard to keep the windows of perspective clear of bugs and debris." The President regretted that metaphor almost as soon as he had said it, but he hoped that Westerwelle had a good enough sense of humor to simply laugh it off. |

Westerwelle, taken aback by the President's ghastly sense of humour, smirked and responded. "Of course, political campaigns often make the truth hazy." Guido answered, "Our debt is soaring, and by the end of this fiscal year will exceed 1.5 trillion. This is primarily due to our predecessor's reckless spending on generous welfare schemes, which we most certainly plan on cutting back quite significantly. Our economic performance is sluggish due to uncertainty surrounding the value of the Austianese dollar ever since a number of troubles with Izalith over oil resources to our south. Unemployment is in decline, thankfully, and should reach below 6% under the first few in months under my Presidency, even without my policy intervention. So, the future looks bright." Westerwelle paused, and proceeded. "A core core hurdle in our economic recovery is dealing with The Empire." Guido said more confidently, getting the nod from his Chief of Staff confirming that the line was indeed secure, "Their aggressive expansionism to our south is affecting our ability to produce oil in thge Southern Gulf, and as such the Austianese dollar is weakened, and that has lead to a resource deficit for our manufacturing industry, holding that back too. We lack the military might to in any means defend ourselves and our assets from Izalith, so in the coming weeks and months I would like to organise a stronger Gileadean presence to our South. Of course, many benefits of such a presence exist for both Austiana and Gilead." |

Knowing his own tendency to forget details, Austin began jotting down notes from Westerwelle about the economy. When the subject of Izalith came up, as he was sure it would, his pen became more sluggish. When Westerwelle was done speaking, the President offered his responses, "Surely we can find some remedy to your economic woes. I can even see about bringing in Middle-Eastern oil to Austiana to lessen your dependence on others. As for an increase in Gileadan presence, what exactly do you propose?" In the President's mind, Austiana could be the opportunity Gilead needed to finally make a grand stand against the progression of the Izalith Empire without direct invasion or border disputes. |

"At this stage, Mr. President, exporting foreign oil would be political suicide." Guid continued, "As I'm sure you're aware, we campaigned very strongly against that. I stand for the support of our own domestic wells, to support our own domestic economy. At this stage, we don't want to inject money into Middle Eastern economies that should be spent at home. If we back down from our 18 our suppliers in the Southern Sea, then not only will we be obliterated by the public, but it well send a message to The Empire that we're weak. Such an action will be at expense of our national security." Guido paused, understanding that he needed to end the dialogue soon so he could continue on with the business of the night. "As you already know, there is currently 1 Gileadean military/naval base in Austiana, on the North East coast. I'm currently in no position to make concrete guarantees, as I'm not even the President yet, but I would like to see at least one or two more Gileadean bases in the South, to protect both Gileadean interests and Austianese interested. I should hope that we can iron out such details at our conference." |

'So he has some sense, this is good,' thought the President to himself. Gregory wasn't giving much attention to Westerwelle's words until he began speaking about Gilead's military presence. He thought about the proposal momentarily, enjoying that Gileadan military aid is being requested rather than simply necessitated. His right hand ran over his red tie when he responded, "Well, I wouldn't dream of causing such trouble for your government or your people. Pardon me for even suggesting it. Of course, I'm open to the idea of increasing our presence there, but there will definitely need to be more thought put into that. If we can work well enough on this particular issue, perhaps a mutual defense treaty can be in the cards as well." |

"Of course." Guido smiled, one of his key election promises was already unravelling and he wasn't even President yet, "Well, unfortunately Mr. President, I'm going to have to cut short our conversation this evening. Duty calls, as I'm sure you understand. I look forward to our meeting in person." |
