"David! David!" Miranda called out to the nation's Minister of Justice. Being his deputy, she expected a bit more respect and acknowledgement. The Minister calmly ducked into his car and had the driver take him to his office.

"David fucking Lambert" Miranda muttered under her breath. Well, if he didn't want to know that she had convinced the deciding Justice to rule in their favor, that was his business...or perhaps she should take it straight to President Austin...nah. She'd much rather watch Mr. Lambert squirm under the pressure. Serves him right. She smirked as she too ducked into her car. She told her driver to take her to the Capitol Building, not too far away.

David Lambert was many things, but easily frightened wasn't one of them. That is why his assistant was doubly shocked as they both walked into his office to find Lucinda Bills sitting in his chair, at his desk, drinking his scotch. Needing not a directive, the assistant made her way back out of the office to tend to idle errands in the meantime.

David slowly walked over to his desk to and slowly sat down at the side that so many had their egos shrunken in by his hand. The leather felt cooler than usual and he had a headache already event though it was barely past noon.

"Relax," Lucinda chided, "I'm not here about the case. Your little deputy already insured that Justice Fulton would vote in your favor. You're just lucky the Kanatans won't get justices until next year. I hear they are much more conservative than us good ole Gileadans. Oh wait, they are Gileadans now aren't they? Anyway, your little friend, Addison, will likely be home with his wife and kiddies soon enough. I was quite surprised that Gregory didn't even lift a finger in the man's defense. I suppose loyalty isn't always mutual...I mean, look at Kerkyra. A son usurping his father out of the blue? Oh, forgive me, world events aren't really your forte are they darling? Oh well, trivialities aside, I'm sure you know why I'm here."

David slowly nodded. He preferred to let her do the talking. Usually contributing to what she likes to think is conversation ends in a twisting of words which could end entire careers.

"Good then," she continued, then perused his drawers to find a pen. On a sheet of paper, probably an important document awaiting the Minister's signature, she wrote an address and a memo:

Hold the mayo.

Lucinda abruptly rose from her seat, smirked, then walked out, her heels clacking against the newly restored hard-wood flooring. David let out a very audible sigh, and after a few seconds his assistant walked in. He asked her to make time in his schedule for an early lunch tomorrow at the location Lucinda had given him.

"Hi," Lucinda announced herself as she approached, and surprised, Miranda Briggs, Deputy Minister of Justice. Lucinda chuckled as she noticed the shock and irritation on the other woman's face, then she took a seat beside Miranda on the bench. They were looking out over the Capitol Reflecting Pool towards the Capitol Building, and it was silent, too silent.

"What do you want?" Miranda started, still looking at the building in all its grandeur, "I'm trying to wind down after another hard day's work." At that, Lucinda's brows raised and her mouth emitted a scoff as her head turned towards the other woman, "Well, I knew you were a hard worker, but even I leave the vicinity of my place of work or anywhere relative to it when I want to...wind down." Miranda's gaze snapped around to meet Lucinda's, "Yes, and pray tell where it is that you report back to, and exactly what is your job description other than pestering government officials...and do you ever even wind down. I can't really imagine you taking a spa day.” Her eyes were intent, yet she knew well enough not to push too far.

Lucinda slowly nodded her head as if agreeing to a fantastical political statement by a politician, “Yes, well, we are who we are, aren’t we?” ‘I’d rather put you in a category of what rather than who,’ Miranda thought to herself. “I have a proposition,” Lucinda stated. Miranda lifted her purse and started to leave, but Lucinda told her to sit back down, so she reluctantly did so. “I want you to replace David,” Lucinda said, “Oh don’t look so surprised. As I said, you’re a hardworker, and David’s iron-fisted tendencies are starting to accrue undesirable press. The public peace is my goal, as always. Your work on the Crews v. UGS case was excellent, and I’m sure you’d do even greater work as Justice Minister. You can give me an answer when I run into you tomorrow morning.” Lucinda rose from the bench and started on her way, but Miranda interrupted her. “Wait!” Miranda almost yelled, “I’ll do it. H-.” “That’s enough, the job is yours in 2 weeks, buh-bye now.”

Miranda was left standing by the reflecting pool, mouth agape and hands clasped together. She slowly turned to look into the water, then smiled. It was finally her time. She sighed contentedly, grabbed her purse from the bench, and made her way to her car to go home.

‘Why does it have to be this place. It’s just ridiculous. Why would you ever cross Austianan and Melzaean cuisine? It’s the world’s best recipe for disaster,’ David Lambert thought to himself as he eyed the food coming out of the kitchen. Luckily enough for him they served burgers for the those of simpler tastes. He noticed someone coming up behind him...
