CIELO SHOCKS THE WORLD! MASSACRES OUR BOYS AT SEA!

RSS Lamberg is sunk by HMS Amphritrite in the Sea of Austiana! War looms as President Powell delivers an almighty condemnation and threatens war!
Posted Image
IMAGE: Obtained by CGNS shows RSS Lamberg sinking

PORT FORTSBURG, AU
HUNDREDS of brave Austianese sailors could be DEAD after an unprovoked and cowardly Cieloan attack sunk RSS Lamberg. A relatively new frigate, the Lamberg was on routine patrol in the Sea of Austiana when it came within 14 nautical miles of the AMS Amphritrite in international waters. A source within Naval Operations Command suggests that after repeatedly trying to peacefully communicate with the Cieloan ship and without receiving any response or warning, two missiles from the Amphritrite struck Lamberg.

Early reports indicate that RSS Lamberg was unable to return fire after the first strike, due to malfunctions and range issues. The ship was abandoned.

"It is unclear at this stage how many sailors have perished." Press Secretary Ramon Frank told the media, "However, we can confirm there have been casualties."

Immediately after the attack, President Powell released a severe condemnation and declared that Austiana was in a 'State of Defence & Preparedness'.

Posted Image The statement reads:

"Completely unprovoked, a Cieloan Naval ship 'HMS Amphitrite' ruthlessly and barbarically attacked an Austianese Naval Ship, the RSS Lamberg! Not only was this an act of tremendous abhorrence, but it was also an act of sheer cowardice! It was unprovoked and without warning, without appropriate declaration! Nonetheless, we as the people take this aggressive and insidious act as an Act of War! This act further demonstrates Cielo's obscene commitment to violence and a hatred of peace and democracy! While there is no stated motive and there remains no official word from our southern attacker, we predict it is antagonism derived from the Solterran independence campaign.

This incident further exemplifies why the Solterrans crave freedom from their authoritarian overlords in Cielo and seek independence! Austiana now considers itself in a State of Defence & Preparedness. Our military is at the highest state of alert and we have officially summoned all Austianese citizens and diplomats presently in Cielo to return at once! Our military is at the highest state of preparation and is fully prepared to defend Austiana and her interests no matter what the circumstances! In this condemnation, our government falls short of declaring war. We shall make very clear to Cielo what our demands are. If they are not met, we will retaliate without hesitation.

The blood of our sailors are on the hands of the Cieloan leadership! We are prepared for war and we are prepared to crush Cielo if our interests or our people are put at any further risk and our demands are not met!"

Now, it is reported that RSS Powell and RSS Dixon - two large and powerful destroyers - are headed towards the wreckage to save our boys! Along with that, the military is on high alert and war looms!

It is a testing time. Let's rally against Cielo in support of our nation, and our President!

POWELL FLIES TO CIELO IN LAST ATTEMPT FOR PEACE

The President bravely ventures to imperialist Cielo in hopes to negotiate peace, demand an apology for the massacre of Austianese sailors

IMAGE: The President's A330-300 lands in Orteio ahead of talks

ORTEIO, CIELO
President Powell has today landed in Orteio for a diplomatic meeting with the Queen of Cielo. This comes after the shocking sinking of the RSS Lamberg and the retaliatory sinking of the HMS Amphitrite by the brave Austianese Navy. The Austianese Government has made key demands to Cielo in recent hours that have not yet been fulfilled, and as tensions rise in the region, the President is working tirelessly to keep our nation safe and sovereign!

"The President will be discussing ways Cielo can apologise to Austiana." Chief of Communications, Roman Howard, said at the Presidential Palace moments ago, "The President will be seeking a number of concessions, including perhaps another vote on Solterran Independence, return of some Solterran territories to Austiana or financial reparations."

What will happen if these demands are not met? Well, Howard had this to say:

"We have leverage in this dispute. And that leverage is the awesome firepower of the Austianese military."

The Republic summons her allies abroad!
In the fight against the imperialists, who of our international allies will lend a hand?

Yesterday, Austiana sunk the HMS Amphitrite in glorious retaliation for her abhorrent trespasses against our nation. Completely unprovoked, the Cieloan government sunk the RSS Lamberg close to Austianese territorial waters, in the Sea of Austiana. What motivated the imperialists to do this will likely be the subject of the President's visit, though some already have their theories.

"By their very nature, Cieloans are violent aggressive people." An unnamed source from the National Security Committee told CGNS, "So when these abhorrent events happen, it is never unsurprising. Nonetheless, we suspect Cieloan government is trying to lash out against Austiana as they try to cover up their crimes in the Solterran Independence referendum. We have clear and overwhelming evidence that they rigged the referendum, and this attack is most likely a pitiful response from a desperate government trying to cling on to the little power they have remaining."

As we speak, President Powell is on his way to the Cieloan palace with the Queen. No doubt our leader will sort this mess out for us!

MILITARY RAMPS UP PREPAREDNESS
Posted Image
After rising tensions, the combined defence forces have conduct major wargames in the South West
Posted Image
IMAGE: Soldiers of the 10th Infantry Corps conduct strategic war games outside Ridgeton

BAXTON, AU
Locals were woken up to the alarming sound of artillery and gunfire in the early hours of this morning in Ridgeton, south west Austiana near the border with Cielo. Was this the sound of a tyrannical Cieloan invasion? No, of course not! In fact, what residents could hear was the patriotic sound of elite and valiant Austianese soldiers preparing for combat. Today is the first day of a week-long intensive military preparation drill, which brings together land and air divisions from across the country to train heavily in the terrain of the great South West.

"This operation was scheduled to go ahead prior to the rise in tensions and is not an intended provocation." The stoic General Brant of the First Army, stationed in Braxton, told CGNS, "Though our adversaries should be warned, our military has never been as large, efficient or prepared as it is today. These military training exercises will only ensure even greater preparedness."

Involved in the operation is the 10th Infantry Corps, divisions of the First Army, the Ninth Mechanised Corps and the Second Air Force. The town of Ridgeton has historically been involved in military operations. Being a town only a short distance from the Cieloan border, there is a heavy military presence and nearby bases and encampments.

"I woke up 'round 'bout five, and I thought... heck! The damn 'cillies' are headed our way!" Henry Webber told CGNS, a labourer who has lived in Ridgeton all his life, "So I ran out with my double barrel onto the street and spoke to Ron across the road, and aye... he told me it wasn't the bastards. It was our boys preparing! And I thought, bloody good on them. The noise hasn't bothered me, it's made me feel... real safe."

Ridgeton is not the only locality to have war games being conducted near it. Bordstock, Port Fortburg and Newidge are all regions in which the military is preparing and developing upon existing fortifications. Our at sea, Naval wargames have concluded in the North and new ones are likely to be arranged between partner nations, a source in the Defence Department has told CGNS.

It certainly is a very exciting time to be an Austianese!

PEACE DEAL STRUCK WITH CIELO
Posted Image
The President, through expert diplomacy, has successfully avoided war after talks with the Queen of Cielo
Posted Image
IMAGE: RSS Fortburg, Austiana's powerful aircraft carrier, has returned to port

FORTBURG, AU
President Powell has returned victorious after diplomatic talks with Queen Catherine of Cielo. After only a few hours of diplomatic talks, the President negotiated with the Queen a deal that would ensure peace and stability in the region. Not only that, but President Powell has secured a claim to ex-Austianese lands in Cielo, including a number of towns along the border and land even as far south as the town of Cape Saili.

"This is a tremendous win for our nation." Foreign Minister Davis told the press, "We have gained back some of our lands, received a full apology from the Cieloans regarding the RSS Lamberg incident and have ensured no war will take place in the region. This is an important victory for our nation and our people."

Austiana dismisses her 'allies'
In the troubles with Cielo, Austiana could handle it herself. Why have our so-called let allies down the people of our nation?

As a result of the peace deal, the Austianese military has rapidly demobilised. Thousands of troops have returned to barracks, now only on a state of nation-wide amber alert. Meanwhile, at sea, the RSS Fortburg has returned to port (pictured), and the Third Fleet is diverting ships from the south to the north as new military war games take place.

"Turns out... that they're alright people, really." Press Secretary told us, when speaking about the Cieloan government, "They have responded very reasonably to this incident and we are very thankful that we can gradually calm tensions and hopefully normalise relations."

Certainly a fascinating time to be alive. We as a nation are so thankful for the President's diplomatic expertise!

AUSTIANA READJUSTS HER FOREIGN POLICY

Our Chief Counsel has started cleansing Austiana of her treacherous and more dubious foreigners, masquerading as 'allies' and 'friends' of the President and the national cause

IMAGE: Thousands of protesters spontaneously gather out the front of the Gorvikian embassy

CASTRATENE, AU
Shortly after peace was negotiated with the Queen of Cielo, Chief Counsel Whitmore has dismissed the diplomatic delegations from Mastropa, Gorvikia and Saros in a serious development. In a reportedly spicy meeting in Castratene, lengthy diplomatic talks broke down after it became clear that foreign delegates were reluctant to support Austiana in a time of need. The Press Secretary has informed CGNS that after many rude remarks and offences were made against Austiana and her President, the Chief Counsel revoked all diplomatic passports from the men in the room and demanded they leave the country at once.

Almost immediately afterwards, Foreign Secretary Davis announced through the Foreign Department that diplomatic relations with Mastropa, Gorvikia and Saros would immediately be frozen and the closure of those nation's consulates and embassies would immediately begin, with a formal notice of eviction and a detachment of Republican Police sent to each of those locations throughout Castratene.

"If any diplomats who have had their status revoked by the government are found to be anywhere other than en route to the airport or at their respective embassies, the Republican Police have been empowered to make an immediate arrest." Davis told the public in an official statement.

Austiana normalises relations with Cielo
After expert diplomacy, the President has successfully secured a peace deal with our neighbour from the south!

After police arrived at various embassies and consulates across the country, crowds began to gather. Soon, after the news broke from the Foreign Department, patriots began to launch protests out the front of the Gorvikian and Mastropan embassies. It is rumoured, but not known, that delegates from foreign nations may be being held in the Gorvikian embassy in Castratene.

"The embassies have 7 days to leave Austiana." Davis declared, "The safety and transport of foreign officials will be guaranteed in that time frame. However, arrests will be made and protection will cease afterwards."

These developments signal a tremendous shift in Austianese foreign policy. Our nation is grateful for Chief Counsel Whitmore's quick thinking and action to rid our lands of traitorous, foreign scum!

NATION OF ANGLEA REFOUNDED, CONSTITUTION PASSED!
Posted Image
The 'Rapid Reformation' has concluded after the constitution was signed by the nation's top leaders and officials, bringing it into law with immediate effect as election campaigning gets underway
Posted Image
IMAGE: An estimated 2 million people arrived in the parklands of Castratene for the pomp and circumstance

CASTRATENE, ANGLEA
The Republic of Austiana was officially farewelled, along with her 4 decade-old governing system in extraordinary fashion yesterday in the nation's capital. At the same time, the new constitution was assented to by the former President and the Governor's of the nation's provinces, ushering in a new era for the Federated Kingdom of Anglea.

In an extraordinary and unexpected turn of events, former President Powell gave up all of his powers to a legislative assembly and granted Angleans freedoms that have never been enjoyed previously. Most officials, commentators and members of the public were shocked and surprised by this fast moving agenda - referred to as the Rapid Reformation. While potentially lacking a clear mandate or justification for the changes, the President exercised his authority to bring in the reforms.

Much to the pleasure of separatists and indeed most Angleans, freedom of speech, religion, association, marriage and economic interaction has been guaranteed by the country's new constitution. The Parliament, which will be housed in the Old Parliamentary building after restoration work is completed in a week's time, will be elected from 259 seats nationwide. Each seat will represent approximately 350,000 voters and the districting and zoning for that election is being conducted by the newly formed Department of Elections.

EXCLUSIVE: In depth analysis of the signing event!
Detailed analysis of the day's proceedings with exclusive footage and interviews!

Campaigning is already underway for the election that is set to be conducted in a fortnight. Three key parties have formed nationwide and have announced that they have the capacity and the ability to run a candidate in each of the 259 districts. First, the newly formed Conservative Party is under the Leadership of former Chief Counsel Maurice Whitmore. Under the banner of 'maintaining national identity' and 'growing the economy through trade liberalisation', the Conservatives are the favourites duty the establishment support behind Whitmore - including rumours that King Joseph J. Powell is advising Whitmore.

Another key party running in every seat is the Labour Party, under the leadership of the present Governor of Wellington Province, George Calwell. A popular Governor who is favoured heavily in the north, Calwell is running the newly formed Labour Party on a pro-worker, unionist
and largely protectionist platform. The Labour Party has also made it clear in their manifesto released today that they will advocate in favour of joining the Western League, contrasting with the official policy of the Conservative Party which advocates for a widely nationalistic and isolationist policy. It is widely suspected of Calwell and the Labour Party that it is fairly pro-separatist and that is the sort of demographic it has attracted in preselection of candidates and a voting base as a whole.

Finally, the Liberal Party - under the leadership of Douglas Fadden - the young Mayor of Castratene. The Liberals advocate for the deregulation of the economy, free trade, the liberalisation of racial segregation laws and the freeing up of Anglea under the new Parliamentary system. The Liberals, however, have reportedly struggled to organise candidates for many seats in the south-west and the north and despite having a popular platform will only contest seats that are likely to swing towards them.

Whitmore, age 73; Calwell, age 68; and Fadden, age 43; are all long-term politicians that are positively perceived nationwide. However, Maurice Whitmore's favourability has dropped in recent days as the free press has been permitted to report on the events of the recent diplomatic conference in Castratene with Gorvikian, Mastropan and Sarosian delegates. The revelation that Whitmore 'cracked' and insulted our former allies has divided public opinion among Angleans, with Labour and Liberal supporters generally viewing the behaviour in a negative light. Conservative voters, however, appear to support Whitmore's abrupt closure of the conference on the basis that 'foreigners out not to be trusted'.

A formal televised debate hosted by CGNS will occur in one week, with the election occurring on the Saturday following.

CALWELL FIRST PM, LABOUR & LIBERAL FORM GOVT.
Posted Image
In the nation's first election, the Labour and Liberal Parties have formed a coalition government with a 57% seat share while Conservatives form the nation's first opposition
Posted Image
IMAGE: Governor George Calwell declares victory at his election night party in front of supporters

WELLINGTON, ANGLEA
In an unexpected election result, the Conservative Party lead by Maurice Whitmore has failed to gain the required 130 seat majority in order to form a government. Instead, the Labour and the Liberal Party - who formed a party coalition five days ago due to the common desire to join the Western League - succeeded in forming a government with their combined party seat share of 147. With a 17 seat majority and a combined 57% nationwide vote share, the Labour/Liberal Coalition is the first government to form in Anglea's new Parliament under her new constitution and has made George Calwell her first Prime Minister.

Speaking to supporters and fans at a victory rally tonight, Calwell declared a new era for Anglea:
"We shall endeavour to protect unions, protect workers, protect families and protect Anglea! We shall ensure health care and education for all, better working conditions for everyone and a government that protects our newly established liberties and freedoms! A new era of prosperity, nationalism and egalitarianism dawns on Anglean society! I won't let you down!"

Meanwhile, the Conservative Party's election evening was subdued - the Conservatives had been expecting a successful majority in the Parliament and that Maurice Whitmore would be elected Prime Minister. However, Whitmore will instead become opposition leader.

Clearly distraught and emotional, Whitmore spoke to the crowds:
"I have no doubt you all angry and upset as I am! But this is merely the beginning of the Conservative movement in this nation. In opposition, we will keep the bastard honest. We made massive victories across the country. Were it not for their deceptive coalition, we would be in government! We shall continue to fight for Powell's legacy and protect the purity of our nation!"

At the Liberal Party HQ, Mayor Douglas Fadden spoke to a smaller but nonetheless enthusiastic crowds. After news broke about the Labour/Liberal coalition, it was believed that support for the party would decrease. Many Liberal voters expressed disdain for Labour Party economic policies and had similar ideological predilections to Conservative voters, but simply disliked Maurice Whitmore and opted for a more libertarian option. However, that did not appear to be the case on election day as the Liberal Party won 70% of the seats it actually ran candidates in. The Liberals were not as successful as Labour or Conservatives in gaining candidates for preselection or funding for election material.

Nonetheless, in winning 20% of the vote it was considered a major success and a significant protest vote against Maurice Whitmore, demonstrating that his popularity is much higher than previously thought.

"We have won this election, and I shall be your Deputy Prime Minister." Fadden told his supporters, "We shall uphold liberal values and ideals. We shall, in cooperation with Labour and Prime Minister Calwell, help guide Anglea into her new era."

Calwell and Fadden's cabinet will be sworn in on Monday (two days from now) by King Joseph J. Powell.

Posted ImageRESULTS:

The Labour did surprisingly well in the North and more rural parts of the country. In traditional 'Anglean' territory, Conservatives won over 60% of the seat share. However, in traditional 'Cambrian' territory to the north, Labour successfully won nearly 80% of all seats. While Conservatives succeeded in winning a plurality, the size of their win was not sufficient enough to gain them a result. Nationwide, everyone over the age of 18 both male and female had voting suffrage - this amounted to approximately 70 million people. Turnout was approximately 82.9%, which translated to around 56 million voters.

CALWELL SWORN IN AS PM
Posted Image
King Joseph has sworn in Anglea's first Prime Minister and Cabinet this morning
Posted Image
IMAGE: The Prime Minister signs the commission given to him by His Majesty the King

CASTRATENE, ANGLEA
George Calwell has officially become the first Prime Minister of Anglea after a swearing in ceremony this morning at the Royal Palace, formerly the Presidential Palace. For the first time in the palace's 40 year history, journalists and members of the public were permitted to enter in order to observe and participate in the official swearing in ceremony in the State Room.

Also sworn in was Douglas Fadden as Deputy Prime Minister and the new Parliamentary cabinet. The nation's first cabinet included: Roger White as Minister for Defence; Robert Davis (formerly the Foreign Secretary), now the Minister for Foreign Relations; Nigel Whittaker, the Minister for Trade and Minister for Commerce; Paul Harding, Minister for Education and Minister for National Development; Joseph Hancock as Treasurer and Minister for Finance; James McIntyre as Minister for Social Services; and lastly, Timothy Lawson as the Minister for Workers, Unions and Industrial Relations.

The swearing in ceremony was televised live and last a little over 30 minutes. It was reported that Calwell and King Joseph barely spoke prior or after the event and that the conversation they did have was limited and tense. There are rumours that the King was disappointed with Calwell's victory.

On his first day in office, Calwell attended to high level talks with the Minister for Defence and chief generals within the Anglean defence force amid rising tensions in the Sarosian Sea. It has also been reported that Calwell spoke briefly with diplomats from Cielo and Gliegen, however has not heard from or communicated with any representative from Mastropa, Gorvikia and Saros.

"The Prime Minister is in the process of judging the situation and determining what response to deliver." The Parliamentary Office told reporters a short time ago, "As he made clear throughout the campaign, the government will be committed to the Western League and strengthening relations with Cielo and Gliegen. He will make a formal statement and declaration shortly with the Minister for Defence."

An exclusive Times+ Poll has revealed that immediately following Calwell's election on Sunday, of a survey of 3200 participants via phone, 68% of Angleans have a positive view of the Prime Minister. However, as Calwell negotiates a difficult first day in office these numbers may very well change quickly.

PM declares war on Saros, Gorvikia and Mastropa; retaliates!

IMAGE: A Sarosian missile strike hit Wellington air base, killing 50

CAMBRIA, ANGLEA
Defence sources are today reporting that 79 military personnel are dead and 114 are wounded after a sudden Sarosian missile attack hit Anglean defence installations at midday. The attack, reportedly launched from a Sarosian battlegroup, struck Wellington AFB, East Douglas AFB, Cambrian RNB and three other confidential locations in Anglea's north and north east. The strikes damaged some key military infrastructure and immediate efforts are being made by the Royal Army's Engineer Corps to repair damaged facilities.

Also lost in the attack were 5 aircraft while a frigate sustained minor damage.

Calwell flies to Orteio!
In a meeting with the Cieloan and Gliegen governments, the PM has vowed to join the Western League.

The attack comes after weeks of rising tensions and occurred on the Prime Minister's first day in office. Yesterday, between 5:16am and 9:42am, formal war declarations were made by Mastropa, Gorvikia and Saros against Anglea and Gliegen. At 9:21am, Prime Minister Calwell was sworn in - reportedly unaware of the war declarations, with the Acting Prime Minister only passing on the official declarations to Port Fortburg. At 11:57am, the Sarosian attack was launched and at 12:15pm the Prime Minister released a formal statement and a reciprocal declaration of war.

According to the Department of Defence, at approximately 1pm Anglea retaliated with a Trident II missile launch at military targets and then at 1:30pm launched Midgetmen rockets at northern Sarosian targets. The Department of Defence or the Sarosian military is yet to comment on the immediate effects of this.

In speaking to the press just after 1pm, the Prime Minister outlined the strategy going forwarded and updated the nation, answering questions.

"We are now in an official state of war." Calwell told the press, "We are presently raising our reserve force, mobilising all divisions of the armed forces and the home guard is reorganising to introduce evacuation and safety methods for all Angleans. Our defence capabilities are very strong and our response to this first strike by the Sarosians has been measured and responsible. Now, more than ever, we ought to stress the importance of the Western League. I shall fly to Orteio tomorrow to solidify military cooperation and strategy."
