Our other bronze came from sailing so it's been our strong point too this time.

Our windsurfer was the flag bearer at the opening ceremony, don't think anyone had ever heard of him, but he won gold as if it were nothing. At least we're relatively well-known for getting medals with sailing and swimming and stuff.
We had the glass half full or glass half empty debate come up on television every time someone won silver or bronze, as if anything but gold wasn't good enough, and I was like "there's twenty people over there who would have killed to be in your position and you actually have the audacity to whine on national television?"
Yeah that's pretty stupid. It's not an issue here though since we haven't even been dreaming of gold to begin with...
It shows how spoiled we actually are, getting all those gold medals. :P

One of my countries' BMX athletes actually studied at my high school, a year below me. It's kind of funny to see the guy who was always London this and London that in our school newspaper and one of those young up-and-coming super talents with god knows how many national, european and world titles under his belt go down in the quarter finals. (The other three were 4th and 5th at the guy's run and 3rd at the girl's run, respectively) :P
Granted, the guy had just recovered from a critical injury he got last year, but still...
Oh. I guess it's pretty impressive to compete on that level anyway.

Congrats for 2600 btw :ninja:

Our flag bearer tonight is a girl my age who won 2 gold indiviually and 1 silver with our relay team for swimming and is the top contributor to our medal total.
It's amazing to see our veterans get blown out of the water by her like they aren't even there. :P

Sadly it's just the opposite here, our flag bearer is a swimmer veteran who's been competing at Olympics since 2000, and this time she didn't even advance from the preliminaries.

Yeah, that's painful.
We had ten-somthing Judo athletes and a fencer everyone had really high hopes of and all of them were beaten in the first few rounds, with 2 bronze for some bitter veterans. (one of them actually got a giant media circus after her after she put on twitter that she was standing behind and slapped that guy who threw that beer bottle during some Usain Bolt match)
The highly disappointed bitching from one delusional guy who thought the Judo sport was going downhill and wanted reforms by blaming everything under the sky for the losses on every major national media outlet was something to behold :P
