What are your guys' strategies for winning? I'm not going to pretend I'm a huge Survivor fan (I've never watched the show), and I admit I joined this game only because I like Lord of the Rings. So basically I'm a LotR diehard and a Survivor newbie. I'm slowly learning how it works but I'd like to get a bit of a jump on things so I won't be eliminated early. And I know it'd be you guys eliminating me, if that happens. But basically I want to be helpful enough to the team that I'm not eliminated early on, and hopefully make some friendships with people I wouldn't otherwise have met on the forum. I would have made this thread in General Discussion (and I suppose perhaps I probably should have, in not-quite-hindsight), but I figure I'll post it here just to see how friendly you all are. Haldir salutes you. |

I'm not saying I am an expert on Survivor or how these specific versions work, but I would call myself a Veteran of the game. Any questions you have you can turn to me. And that goes for anyone, you can feel free to shoot me a PM to ask general questions about gameplay techniques or more specific questions. |

I'm an expert on the real version, never played a forum version. I'm honestly interested in how well I can do without any playing experience just going on my knowledge of Survivor. |

What sort of challenges do you fine folk think might crop up in the future? Advance planning will more likely help us to overcome them. I've also noticed that the entire board has 1870ish posts, 500 of which are in the Battlefield category. And yet the Sapphire Slayers board only has 172 of the remaining posts. I think we all need to be a little bit more active and discuss things a little bit more. If we are to win this, we all need to be running at 100% and in the game without fail. What happened today during Challenge 2 was sloppy. |

Indeed, Challenge 2 was a cluster fuck. Challenges can range from games to "Let's post shit for the next 24 hours" to apssword and more. It all depends. The best way to prepare is to mkae yourself easy to access. |

Probably, we had some good picks, but we only have 1/3 of the answers, so anything is possible. |

Shit two challenge wins in a row. We're too strong guys. Considering we had the ability to also dominate the 1st challenge... |

I don't think we're too strong. I think we're just right. But I want to have a bit of a talk about alliances. And I want to do it in public because of course it's important to have everything on the table and back-door dealing is pretty shady imo. Soliciting opinions in secret I feel is ok, but conspiring (though I realize it's part of the game, obv) seems pretty lame. I am still not exactly clear on how this merge/swap thing will go, but if I'm not wrong, a strong team will be better than a divided team. What I'm gathering is that this isn't quite like a game of mafia where you try to vote out the "worst" for the "team". You try to vote out someone who you think will be detrimental to your OWN personal wincon, which is, sole victory. Which includes tribe merge/swap, etc, on down the line. That's great and all, but I think a better strategy would be to pick and choose two or three people in the game you'd like to win, and further THEIR ends, instead of trying to further your own. Yes, I realize that sounds retarded on face. But hear me out. If you do things that way, you'll form a stronger team overall, and you'll have more chance of doing better in challenges. If everyone is active and decent at the game (and from what I can see, those of us who lack in one area try to make up for it in others, and nobody stands out as a clear detractor at this point) then we stand a greater chance of hitting less Tribal Councils. Which means our team stays relatively intact while others' splinter. This may sound insecure of me (though I'm not at all insecure; I assure you), but I think our decisions should be made as a team in public, and we should give everyone who we're having doubts about, the common courtesy of knowing what our doubts are about them. Whether they have high or low levels of play, activity, etc. That way, they can either work on those attributes, or decide to neglect them. If we see everyone trying to better their activity during challenges, and in doing so they help the team more as a whole, we'll see more victories (or rather, less losses, which is pretty much the only point at this stage) and we'll go to less TCs and our team will become stronger. I realize everyone's going to have the sole desire to win and get the glory and all that jazz, but since there's no actual money at stake here, I see no harm in performing a social experiment where we work instead to further our teammates' ends, rather than our own. It's like we're all serial killers in our own mafia faction, which is against the town at large. All of our PMs state a wincon of sole victory and endgaming every other player in the game. I am proposing a paradigm shift of making this less like that, and more like an actual conventional mafia team. We are against everyone else, but if we die, we try not to drag down our teammates, and when we leave, we do our best to assist our team in still winning after we die. To do this, we'll need to discuss things in public and be unconventionally open with each other. Sure, if it comes down to the last few in the game after merging/etc, and it's really really beneficial to you to bus a partner, then sure, I understand that. But let's try to see how many of us can get to the final four or five in the game. I think our team is strong enough that we can do it. I think the obvious weak links here are green, and then also red to some extent. I think of green as a sports team that's never had a winning record, and so with that mindset, they continue to perform subpar. And I think of red as a team that has some hotshots, but not the team ethos to fight together when the chips are down. I think they'll splinter before long, perhaps even before green. I think we're the only team with a good mix of street smarts, loyalty and discipline to make this happen. This is a challenge to all of you. If you're down for trying this out with me (remember, there's no money at stake, etc) for the good of ALL OF US (the less backdoor dealing, the more team unity we have; the more team unity we have, the more activity; the more activity, the more competence; the more competence, the less TCs; the less TCs, the more members we'll have that will survive longer, etc.), then I'd like you to type the following in your next post: /in I'm /in for this idea, obviously. |

I think we should really stick with our "blue" alliance if our dominance in early challenges continues. Best to stick together if our tribe is separated (which is probably inevitable). I doubt we lose our next challenge considering our lembas advantage unless it is solely based on luck. |

What's wrong with coming in first? Unless there's another challenge like the second, we should be fine, right? Or do you guys expect more challenges like the 2nd one? |
