| Okay Gang, here are the Rules for while you are visiting SynapticSim’s Lair. Heretofore referred to as the “Lair.” I would love to be able to say “Hey, the only rule is that there are no rules,” but that would foolish of me. Eventually, at least a portion of these rules will be required because someone will do something to violate some unspoken rule. So in the spirit of being redundant, here are the Rules. Read the Rules. I am certainly not typing them for my health! Drama: The Sims Community as a whole has become so chock full of drama lately that it would appear this should be the primary rule. There is NO ROOM FOR DRAMA in the Lair. Real Life throws us enough curveballs everyday to have to experience it in a forum … that’s about a game … that’s meant for fun. The Sims is an escape for me from a rather hectic personal life. Essentially I’m opening up the Lair to share this experience with you. Don’t disrespect me or the other members by bringing (or starting) drama in the Lair. Respect and Acceptance: Basically we are going to look at a fictional world here and bring it into reality. As you should know by now, the X-Men are my favorite superheroes. I have always regarded the X-Men franchise as having an underlying message of tolerance. No matter what race, sex, national origin, religion, handicap, sexual orientation, etc. that you may have, we are all different, and we shouldn't fear others just because they are not like us. Members and Guests of the Lair will abide by the Golden Rule: Treat everyone like you want to be treated. If we do this, then everything should move along just fine. No member or guest to the Lair shall be discriminated against based on their race, sex, religion, national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, familial status, political affiliation, or any other reason I can’t think of at the moment. The Great Debate: Paysite vs Freesite: I couldn’t care less about how you decide to use your money. You earned it. You can do whatever the heck you want to with it, and I or no one else has the right to tell you that you are wrong for paying for custom content, or wrong for downloading file-shared pay custom content. This is a debate that EA has chosen not to participate in. They made the freakin’ game. If they don’t care … well it doesn’t make much sense for anyone else to care. There are some paysites out there with some amazing content. I have a good bit of it in my game, some I’ve paid for and some I’ve gotten through file-sharing. You will undoubtedly see some of this in my pictures. If I were independently wealthy then I would pay for what I get. But I’m not. And more than likely you aren’t either. That shouldn’t make us bad people. There is a site that is available for people to file-share paysite items. You can find it HERE. This link takes you directly to where you can get the downloads. This site is called Paysites Must Be Destroyed. I will allow you to link to this site to get a download, but only if you first credit the original creator and also provide a link to the original creators download and/or homepage. Furthermore, this should be the last time that the Paysite vs Freesite Debate should be mentioned. Guidelines for Starting a New Discussion Thread: 1 - Make sure that the topic is substantial enough to support it's own thread. What I mean here is that if you only have a few sentences to say about a topic, do not start an entire thread about it. It might be best to post something like this in the General Chatter Thread. 2 - Do NOT make an entirely new thread to state a random opinion about something. Especially when it really has nothing to do with sims, comics, or sci-fi. This is a Sims 2 Comics site after all. 3 - Do NOT make duplicate threads. Search in the forum you are going to post in to make sure that there isn't already a topic on the same subject. Furthermore, if you do find an existing topic, make sure that it is not more than 6 months old. If it has not had a new reply in over 6 months, ONLY reply in that thread if you have something substantial to add. For example, a substantial update on a movie in the Movie Discussion section would be something like a new director or the lead actor dropping out, or production has stopped. If that is what you want to add, then by all means, go for it. But if you want to simply add something like "I agree!" then please don't. Exceptions would be commentary on a new issue of a comic book or a new episode of a television series. Please refrain from starting a new thread if you are going to post your commentary on something like this if a topic already exists, no matter the age. 4 - Please make sure that you have posted your new discussion topic in the correct section. Sims topics go in Sims Discussion. Movie/Television Series topics go in Movie and Television Discussion. Comic topics go in Comics Discussion. Gaming topics go in Gaming Discussions. Anything else will go into General Discussion. Anyone that knows me in real life can tell you that I am incredibly OCD about stuff like this and it drives me insane to see a topic in the wrong section. 5 - Television and Comics Discussion: Do not start a new thread for individual issues of a comic book if there is already a thread about the comic book in existence. Do not start a new thread for an individual episode of a television series if there is already a thread about the series in existence. Age: You must be 13 years of age or older to be a member of this forum. Not my rules, but the rules of EA and the age rating on the game. My rule regarding this is that if you are 13 and would like to be a member, you must be a MATURE 13 year-old. I’m not a babysitter. And I’m certainly not going to babysit if I’m not getting paid for it. Flaming: Definition – Flaming is the hostile and insulting interaction between Internet users. Flaming usually occurs in the social context of a discussion board, Internet Relay Chat (IRC) or even through e-mail. An Internet user typically generates a flame response to other posts or users posting on a site, and such a response is usually not constructive, does not clarify a discussion, and does not persuade others. Sometimes, flamers attempt to assert their authority, or establish a position of superiority over other users. Other times, a flamer is simply an individual who believes he or she carries the only valid opinion. This leads him or her to personally attack those who disagree. In some cases, flamers wish to upset and offend other members of the forum, in which case they can be called "trolls". Most often however, flames are angry or insulting messages transmitted by people who have strong feelings about a subject. Read this definition and understand it and then … DON’T DO IT. Forbidden Topics and/or Images: Adult/Pornography – At no time will conversations of an adult nature or sexually explicit have a place in the Lair. At no time will pornographic images be allowed in the Lair. Anything of this nature found on the site will immediately be deleted with no questions asked. However, you might not like what happens to your status as a member when I’m done with you. Profanity – I am not a big stickler for making sure that no one is using profanity. As unbecoming as it is, it seems to be a way of communicating for some people. This isn’t a free pass to throw around an F-Bomb every other word. If you are found to be abusing this, then you will be warned and possibly banned. Use common sense. Illegal Activities – Quite frankly I don’t want to be involved in any kind of lawsuit. So to the point, if something is illegal don’t discuss it here. If you aren’t sure if something is illegal or not, send me a private message and I’d be happy to let you know if you should discuss it in the Lair. Warez – "Warez" refers primarily to copyrighted works traded in violation of copyright law. The term generally refers to illegal releases by organized groups, as opposed to peer-to-peer file sharing between friends or large groups of people with similar interest using a darknet. It usually does not refer to commercial for-profit software counterfeiting. This term was initially coined by members of the various computer underground circles, but has since become commonplace among Internet users and the mass media. DON'T DO IT! DON'T DISCUSS IT! Spam – Don’t post the same topic over and over again within different forums. It’s annoying. Double Posts – Try your best not to “bump” a topic by double posting in a thread. I’ve been known to do this from time to time so I won’t be a huge stickler about this. But three or four times in a row, well that could be annoying to me and the other members. Plus it looks like you are talking to yourself . Use the Edit Button as often as possible.Duplicate Topics – Try your best not to post a topic that already exists on the forum. Skim the forums, and if you don’t see something that fits what you want to post, then please feel free to post it. Again, I’m not going to freak out if this happens. And a note to everyone else, you can’t freak out if this happens either. I don't expect you to read every topic on this site. Abandoned Topics - If you discover a thread that has not had a new reply added in over six months, please do not revive that thread by posting something unneccessary. Only revive the thread if you have something of importance to add to the conversation. If it's a simple agreement or disagreement with the topic, please keep this to yourself, DO NOT reply to the thread to add that. Avatars – The size for avatars is currently set at 150 x 150. This is larger than what most sites allow. If I notice that it causes the site to slow down then I will adjust this size. Signatures – I don’t mind a few lines of text in your signature. I don’t mind a few links in your signature. I don’t even mind ONE picture in you signature. But don’t put like 10 pictures, 37 links, and novella in your signature. That is REALLY annoying. Multiple Accounts – I don’t see the need for people to have more than one account, so that will be the rule. You can only have one account in the Lair. It’s fairly simple for me to change your name should you want to do that. Just send me a PM and I’ll take care of it as soon as possible. The Sims 3: SynapticSim's Lair is for The Sims 2 content ONLY. You may not upload The Sims 3 Custom Content to the lair in any form. Please review the policy located HERE for further details and explanations. In Conclusion: So Gang, that’s it for Rules as of now. I really don’t want to ban anyone. But I will if I have to. Don’t force me to. Should you see any of these rules being broken, please use the “Report” button . But don’t abuse this button or you may find yourself as the one in hot water.Thanx and Enjoy your time at the Lair! ~ Syn |
