You must count, the trick is how and where to.

There are 5 weird bits on this level that will guide you.

You might think there's only 4, but you should pay attention to "thickness".

anagram?

The word here is very common.
There's not any ordering here, so anagram is quite mandatory.
And finally, those aren't 5 squares, but rather 4 "male plugs".

This level was a killer, it is only thanks to Tynka that I survived it!

OK. I give. Do male extensions have a value? We've learned that inward notches=1 and outward extensions are usually negatives. I see male and female "electrical" stuff but how do we know what there values are, if any?A hint would be helpful. Thanks.

5 numbered squares =/= 5 letters in the answer

That seems fair. I guess we'll just have to try for numbers with and without the male items (maybe cancelled out when plugged in?). There just doesn't seem to be any motivation for placing a value on them (+/-, 1/2, etc.). I wonder if squares can be plugged into other squares?

Oops. I misread your equation. I do note that the number of male plugs around the squares is interesting. Will that help? Do we need to move the 4 female receptacles and plug them in around the squares? There seem to be so many things to do and so few reasons for doing them. Its like trying to get outside the box without knowing where the box is.
