West African Pirates Hijack Trade Vessel By Pasha Kemal www.PashaKemal@Worker'sTribune.ag Pirates have hijacked the shipping vessel SV City of Tartus, which was destined for Kumania Image Pirates, who are suspected to be part of a West African marauder group, have hijacked the Aghrabian cargo ship the SV City of Tartus, which set off for Kumania on Wednesday, of the coast of Merlinton on Saturday morning. They reportedly wish to stop “the transit of all materials by those nations which wish us and our families harm”. It is currently unknown how they entered the vessel. The ship left Tel Aviv on Wednesday morning, carrying luxury food items destined for Kumania- communications were abruptly cut off on early morning Friday after entering the Atlantic, it wasn’t until Saturday that the group responsible broadcast that they had hijacked the vessel and was holding it and its crew hostage. The Minister of Defence, Husayn El-Hashem, has declared in an interview that, “This is an irrevocable attack on our freedom, we shall respond with all force necessary. The government has announced that it is doing all it is doing all it can to respond to the crisis, which could affect cross-Atlantic trading. The Aghrabian Navy has mobilised small search-and-attack craft to the West African region to hunt for the pirates involved in the raid, the naval commander has responded to questions raised on the safety of other vessels travelling outside of the Mediterranean by saying that, “We have the situation under control and doubt that other vessels will be affected by the circumstances around this outrageous attack.” |
