it's here! It's finally here! After months/years of waiting, only to have it delayed like 4 times, Shantae Pirates curse is out. And even though I said I would wait til thanksgiving, well I couldn't resist. So how does the game hold up? Well it's truly the best Shantae game to date. If you loved past installments then this game is a must. Now if you were like me, you expected this game to be the sequel to Risky's Revenge. And yet it's not. It's more like a hybrid of both installments. So it's like a Shantae 1.5. That's not to say it's bad, but I effing loved Risky's Revenge and was somewhat disappointed. But I'll rant on that later. Shantae & the Pirate's Curse Story: 7.5/10 Well No surprise here. An ancient evil is awakening, Risky & Shantae team up to stop it. But there is more than that. It seems that our two protagonists are very sincere and genuine to each other thus revealing things about their past we didn't already know. Other than that it's your average video game story. Graphics: 10/10 While the visuals themselves did not change since the last game, The aspect ratio just shows a lot more. And the 3D is absolutely gorgeous. I actually played with 3D on for more than 15 minutes. Boy did my eyes burn afterward. Music: 10/10 It's Jake Kaufman, need I say anything more? Well I will say more. The music used has a lot of remixed songs from previous installments that was just a great nostalgia trip. Controls: 7/10 The controls are smooth and work quite well. The controls themselves are about the same as Risky's Revenge Items: 4/10 I feel that as far as store bought items go, this game has the worse. The original had tons of items, risky's revenge had the perfect balance, but this game? 12 items, 6 are healing, 2 are offensive, 2 are stat boosting, 1 defensive, and 1 for warping. Plus they got rid of the magic meter, which makes sense cause of the story, but now you have to go back to buying each use. And you can only carry 9 of each. Because of this I rarely used items outside of boss battles. Now you do get to collect Pirate items in dungeons. These grant Shantae new powers/abilities and have unlimited use. Once you get them all, you will wonder how you ever managed without them. Dialogue:15/10 Okay this is where the game truly shines. Practically every line is sooo worthy of Miiverse. I wanted to share each line, yet had to wait 2 minutes to post. -___- But yes, it has tons of references, jokes, not to mention cuteness. Enemies: 6/10 This game had a lot of returning enemies. Which is great if you ask me. They all provided a challenge, so if you got sloppy you would pay for it. The bosses were also original for this series. Well except for that one guy.... Extras: There are many other things that make this game great. Such as the character shipping that Wayforward chose, The "Mid-Boss" Crisis, Alternate endings, The 4 main ladies in their "Fanservice" outfits, the hidden retro dungeon, and a few others. Overall: 10/10 Yes I may be biased. But the game is truly worth the $20.19 I payed. While I do have some minor nitpicks, This game was truly enjoyable and provided a nice balance of difficulty and content. Rant: Okay, now for my rant. My main complaints seem to be stemming from how different this game was to Risky's Revenge. I liked the magic meter and how it automatically refilled itself. This is absent from pirates curse. The magic meter gave Shantae an almost god-mode. I played thru most of Risky's revenge with the twin pike balls. I loved it. But in pirate's curse Shantae just seemed to be lacking something. You could even say she lost her magic, which you know... For this reason, I understand WHY it was necessary to change the feel of the character. And yet it just felt weird. Risky's revenge found the perfect balance, and I loved it. In Pirate's Curse I just felt handicapped. And yet I'm okay with this. Once you beat the game you unlock pirate mode. Which allows you to play again with all pirate gear unlocked. This once again gives Shantae a great advantage that makes gameplay that OP fun that I loved. So even though I didn't like the change, I welcome it. Not all games need to follow the same formula, so I'm glad Wayforward did something new. Edited by Greymon57, Sep 15 2016, 05:52 PM.

GET IN THE BAG NEBBY

I jst got the Wii U version and I've really been enjoying it so far. The original GBC game almost turned me off to the whole series, but I'm glad I gave this one a chance (the sale helped too )
