So this game was created by Megaman Co-Creator Inafune. It clearly has some megaman refferncs. But is it good? Let's find out. Story: 10/10 The story is quite good involving elements of politics, psychology and religion together. Essentially in the future some mega corporation called Sumeragi tries to create super soldiers but the gene gets out into the general population. For this reason many people are born with powers. These people are refered to as "Adepts". The general population fears adepts, so the government decides to round them up and lock them in super prisons. Some of these adepts escape and form QUILL. QUILL is the rebel group organized to fight the goverment and obtain freedom for all Adepts. The game begins when an Adept named Gunvolt is hired to destroy a computer algorythim designed for mass brain control. Gameplay: 10/10 Not only are the controls tight and responsive, but there are many ways to clear thru the same level. You can speed run thru it, take your time racking up the highest score, attempt to do a no damage run, etc. How you play these levels, and replay them, is completely up to you. There are tons of crafting items that you can use for better gear and stats, or if you want gear that cripples you thus making a harder game. Not to mention all the weapons and power ups. ![]() Level Design: 10/10 The levels are classic 2D platforming goodness. Most have a slight gimmick, but it's nothing too big or distracting. The gimmicks serve to illustrate the Adepts power. See in Megaman the Robot Master's all have an element that make them special. Here the adepts have powers yes, but it's their personality and motives that makes them unique. But I'll talk about that in the Character section. Characters: 10/10 Okay so this game has a lot of great and memorable character's with clearly designed motives. Nobody here is 2 dimensional. I mean it's a 2D platformer, but their personality are clearly fleshed out. So the bad guys are modeled after the 7 deadly sins. They are not evil for the sake of being evil. Rather they have a story. One is an addict, and defends the bad guys so he can get his "fix". Another is in charge of televised media and wants to keep the population under control, etc. Perhaps the best character is Copen. A Christian fanatic who believes all adepts are an abomination to God who must be weeded out. I guess you could say he is the Protoman of this game. Even though his soul collection technology is more like megaman's. In any case, Copen's views are very mixed between good and evil. Fighting both quill and sumeragi. Music: 10/10 J-Pop at it's finest. Each song in this game is truly a well done masterpiece. Bosses: 8/10 The bosses are both very difficult and very easy. Hard at first, but memorize their pattern and they are toast. Abilities: 10/10 So Gunvolt is an Adept with Electric based attacks. His main method of attack is a pistol that shoots tags. These tags serve as mini lightning rods for his Static sphere. He can also use his electrip powers to form a mini magnet loop to either dash forward or get a double jump. He can also do wall jumps. Replay Value: 10/10 With tons of items to craft and unlock, challenges to clear, and multiple ways to play thru the game, You will keep going back to this game again and again for more. Overall: 10/10 It may seem that I threw the perfect 10 too many times in this review, but it truly is a great game. My main complaint is that it's a bit short, but even that's not true cause it has plenty of levels. So yeah the game is amazing and I recommend it to all. Worth every penny.
