All right you guys, I'm going to take you back to the past... of about a month ago. To play a crappy game that sucked big time. I'd rather eat a buffalo wing and down it with root beer, and I really hate root beer. This game sucks so much it blows, it blows so much it sucks. And I hate it. I also hate talking like this so I'll leave that to the nerd.

Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures

Story: 2/10 The story is very cliche. While playing video games with his friends, the nerd gets sucked into a video game world and now has to play thru several gaming tropes of the 80's and 90's in order to get back home. Uninspired yes, but considering what the nerd is known for it's hard to imagine a different story.

Gameplay: 6/10 I wont complain too much about Gameplay. While there is a lot of crashing on the 3DS version, the gameplay itself was fine. I mean it's difficult and unforgiving. And has a few cheap deaths. Well, more than a few. But again, a game based on the nerd has to emulate the things the nerd complains about. Still the impossible feats of the games just give it it's charm. Several gimmicky worlds and 4 playable characters make the gameplay tolerable. Now if they could just patch up that crashing glitch then I'd be happy.

Level Design: 5/10 If we were judging this strictly on it's visuals then I would give it a higher score. But really most of the levels are the same. I mean they added many gimmicks to make it feel different, and I thank them for that. From your slippery controls on Ice levels, and your silver surfing, Even a Zelda II'ish level where you have to gather keys. So they put in the work, however it's precise timing difficulty makes the levels feel the same. Cause in the end, it just seems like you are playing thru the same sections over and over.

Characters: 7.5/10 As much as I would like to give the characters a 10/10 I can't due to one main issue. Certain levels/areas can only be beaten with specific characters. While the nerd can traverse any area, the other 3 characters can't. So some switching is necessary. This turns the whole "switch characters on the go" feature from being a nice touch, to being flat out necessary to complete the game. It's a shame cause I'd like to play thru the game entirely with each of the characters. Instead I'm limited to what I can do. But the other 3 characters have nice abilities that change up the gameplay.

Music: 7/10 The music is okay. It's not a masterpiece, not truly retro, but it's not crap either. It has it's charm, but can also get old after a few minutes.

Bosses: 9/10 The Bosses do pose a challenge. Their patterns are often hard to figure out. So I often found myself going crazy shooting at them. They have a few good attack patterns, so each one feels different. My main concern is that certain bosses do not allow you to switch characters. So if you choose one with a disadvantage, you are stuck with him unless you restart the stage from the beggining.

Abilities: 6/10 Since they are 4 characters, I'm giving the abilities a higher score than each character deserves. Pretty much it boils down to Walk, jump, & shoot. Different stats on each character, plus a special ability. So it's okay.

Replay Value: 1/10 I'm sorry but once it's more than enough for me. That being said there are multiple difficulties and challenges. So you could go back for more... I just don't care much for it.

Overall: 3/10 It pains me to give it such a low score but it just seemed too generic for me. It's not the worst game on the eshop. It just wasn't much fun for me. And the $9.99 price tag is too steep for it's quality. I do like Screwattack and I'm glad to support them, I just wish the game felt more unique.
