This game was one of the first eshop purchases I made, and it was definitely the first indie title I played. So it's Kinda special to me.

Mutant Mudds

Story: 1/10 Once again we have a very minimal story. Aliens called "mudds" are attacking and a boy named Max must save the day. Cliched I know.

Gameplay: 6/10 This game really has that classic platforming feel. It's challenging yet easy enough for beginners. It's a 2-D platformer and a good one at that.

Level Design: 10/10 Yes this game has amazing levels, and has received a whole lot more via updates. The levels span your cliche grass land, lava dungeon, mountain, Snow, & space. They all change the gameplay slightly to make it feel fresh. We also have bonus levels that mimic the GameBoy and Virtual boy's colors. There are also Granny levels... Those are just plain cruel. Like fan made cruel. You will die tons of time on those.

Characters: 3/10 While we don't know much of their personalities, we are treated to two characters. Max is a boy with basic abilities that can upgrade one of his skills at a time. Granny is an old lady who has all 3 main skills upgraded.

Music: 8/10 The music is well done, and very catchy. Greatly matches the enviroment. I loved it.

Bosses: 0/10 There are no bosses.

Abilities: 5/10 Well besides walking and jumping you also get to shoot your blaster and hover with a jetpack. You can upgrade the length of your blaster's shots, double your hover time, or use a special rocket boost jump. These upgrades don't drastically change your gameplay, but they add a nice variation. They also allow you to reach areas that otherwise would be unreachable.

Replay Value: 6/10 The game does have a lot of replay value... But after a while I did get tired of it. Still you will find yourself playing thru it more than once.

Overall: 9/10 What this game does right is Platforming. The story is okay, and there are no bosses. So if you want some good solid platforming, then mutant mudds is your game. It has plenty of levels to keep you hooked. 20 basic levels, 20 bonus levels, 20 ghost levels, and 20 challenge levels. This game will keep you busy for quite some time. :)

GET IN THE BAG NEBBY
I've seen quite a few remakes/upgrades for this game. I may check it out one day.
