Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows

Story: 7/10 So the story to this one is a bit different. Plague Knight joined the Order of No Quarter, only because he had a hidden agenda. To create a potion that gives him unlimited power. The Story itself is just okay, but it is interesting to see how it intertwines with Shovel Knight's story.

Gameplay: 5/10 You know at first I expected Plague Knight to play "LIKE A BOSS" no pun intended. Actually no, PUN INTENDED. However only in Boss battles is he OP. The rest of the time he is kinda nerfed. He walks slowly, he can't jump very high. So you have to string attacks and potions to get air. Which is both original and annoying. It is nice that they allow you to customize Plague Knight and his weapons. Thus giving you more control over his shoddy controls. Some customs make the game a lot easier.

Level Design: 8/10 Well not much has changed in level design since the original campaign. But the new gameplay mechanics make each level feel like an obstacle course. They did however add Plague Knight exclusive areas. So that's good.

Characters: 9/10 Once again the characters are just so charming. Plague Knight is a womanizer, Mona is secretly in Love with Plague Knight, Percy the horse is just oblivious to everything going on. Good stuff.

Music: 10/10 As far as I know the soundtrack didn't change. It was good then, and it's good now.

Bosses: 8/10 Well Plague Knight is technically a Boss. And he fights like one. His mechanics are so perfect for Boss Battles, I was able to beat most of them Blind folded. A few bosses did cause some problems... but that's because the battles had some platforming elements in them. Also the Vs. ShovelKnight fight was AWESOME! Especially the ending. :D

Abilities: 8/10 Well the Abilities were interesting. First you have your 'Burst' ability that controls your triple jump. You also have your 'Bomb' menu, where you choose between casings, powder, and fuses to customize your fighting style. And finally you have 'Arcana' which is your magic and can work as an item or spell. Finding a balance that works best for you is fun. But certain challenges can be best cleared with specific customs.

Replay Value: While there is a NewGame+ I haven't yet played it. The first run through was difficult enough. But the new Challenge Mode offers plenty of replayability. :D Such as 'Defeat King Knight with one heart under 30 seconds' It may sound easy, but that confetti will get you every time.

Overall: 8/10 If you loved Shovel Knight then you will like Plague of Shadows. The controls makes even the most basic platforming a challenge. So if you want a new challenge then you are right at home. The story was funny, the tidbits of info expanded the world, and the end was charming. But I personally prefer Shovel Knight's controls.
