Game: Burger Time Deluxe Year:1991 For: Game Boy So after a trip to the fair I fell in love with old school arcade games. I really wanted to play the arcade version of Burgertime, but on my 3DS the GB version will have to do. Burger Time Deluxe Gameplay: 5/10 This game is not just a port of the arcade game but a re-imagined version of the Original. The mechanics of the original game are still here. But now there are more power ups, new level designs and a short plot. Still the core gameplay remains the same: Serve giant burgers by walking over the ingredients. Story: 4/10 The plot that was created by this game is simple. A rival Donut shop is jealous of the success that your burger shop is having so the Donut Baker sends Mutant ingredients your way to sabotage your business. That's it. No word on where the mutant ingredients came from. They just are. The story is presented in short animations between the 6 worlds. It's not a great story, but it's a nice nod to the Original Classic. Level Design: 7/10 Considering that the game is trying to stick to it's arcade roots, there really wasn't much they could do for originality. But there are a few Carousel-esque levels that make for interesting gameplay. Still the main challenge comes from the many monster foods trying to off you. Characters: 2/10 They are extremely one dimensional. Peter Pepper = Good, everyone else = bad. But at least they gave him a story. Music: 3/10 I believe there were 4 tracks in the whole game. And two of those tracks are the title & credits theme. Still they were catchy. And this technically was the GB era so I can't complain. Bosses: 0/10 There were no bosses. Unless you count the Giant donut that appears in the final world. But I consider it more of a common enemy. Abilities: 5/10 So what Power does Peter Pepper Pack? Peter Peppers packs a Pinch of Pepper. But said pinch is limited, and a precious resource. While you may want to use it liberally, I say save it til the last world. I mean I played this game on my 3DS VC, even with save states it was a hard game. Yet I managed to save the pepper for the final two levels. Worth the investment. Replay Value: 4/10 For Nostalgia purposes I might pick this up from time to time. But overall this game shall just use up my memory space in vain. Overall: 5/10 Rating this through my nostalgia glasses I can say that the game was just Okay. Nothing great, but not bad either. If you wish to show your support for the BurgerTime franchise, then by all means buy the game. If not, then it's Time Out for Burger Time Deluxe. Did it age well? Unfortunately it did not. I recommend this only for nostalgia. Where Can I play this today? This particular version of the game is available in the 3DS eshop for $2.99. Other versions of Burger Time are available through various other digital formats. Edited by Greymon57, Sep 22 2016, 12:36 PM.
