Year: 1993 Platform: NES (unlicensed) It's thanksgiving. Time to gather around the table and enjoy a cornucopia of food. And what better way to celebrate it than with an Unlicensed NES game. Now yes this is one of Wisdom Tree's Bible games. And yes, it has nothing to do with the Bible. So let's review it for what it is. Bible Buffet: Gameplay: 5/10 Honestly the gameplay isn't bad. It's essentially a limited Mario Party game for NES. It's also a sequel of Sorts to Spiritual Warfare. You start by selecting the number of players, then you enter the names of the players. You spin a wheel that tells you how many spaces you move on the board. When you land on a space you have to do a challenge. Unlike Mario Party all these challenges are the same. They are Zelda1-ish maps. Okay it's like a linear spiritual warfare. You even control the same nameless red haired boy. Your job is to reach the end of the map. Along the way you must fight all sorts of foods who attack you. You use the same fighting system from SW, but the weapons had their names changed. Also each challenge has random difficulties. If you die in a challenge, you must try again on your next turn, for up to 3 turns. Story: 0/10 I'm not sure there is a story. Level Design: 6/10 For the record the design is not bad. It's just short challenges. But each land does get it's own theme and enemies. So that's kinda okay. Characters: 0/10 The only real character is our nameless red haired boy. Well that and each other player. Music: 0/10 Well it seems to me they got rid of the music this time around. Bosses: 0/10 There are no bosses that I know of. But the game's difficulty does get harder towards the end. Still I only played thru the game once. So I don't know if there are bosses hidden in the game. Abilities: 4/10 Similar to Spiritual Warfare, your main weapon is throwing fruit. Except this time it's silverware and not fruit. And instead of bombs it's and oil drum. So yeah it's essentially the same. You pickup weapon power ups and upgrades randomly. So the more levels you play the stronger you can become. Replay Value: 5/10 Even though one game was enough for me, I feel that this game would have been very fun to play with friends back in the day. In the end it's just a bit outdated for me. Overall: 5/10 For what it was, a MarioParty-esque game on the NES, it was actually very good. Yes it had nothing to do with the bible but so what? It's still somewhat fun. And it's still offers that same Zelda-esque experience. Did it age well? Well the gameplay is still solid. But it's just limited by the NES. So I'll say it kinda aged well. Where Can I play this today? Update: You can play Bible Buffet by going to http://wisdomtreegames.com/store.html and purchasing either the Arkade Plug&Play ($45), or Wisdom Tree NES Collection ($49.99).
