This game had a lot of Hype & Hate leading up to it's release. I will push all of that aside and review it for what it is, not for what I wanted it to be, or for the sake of jumping the Hate train. Mighty No.9 Story: (3/10) In the future, and in the US, Robots are built to make life easier for man, and also for entertainment in robot gladiator fights. When a Computer Virus infects robots, they turn on mankind and start wreaking Havoc. Now it's up to Beck to save the day because... reasons. The story is very cartoonish. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if this game is the pilot for the Anime. There is a lot of Cartoon Logic and dumbed down science. Again the type of thing you would find in a cheap children's Saturday Morning cartoon. The voice acting is so cringy, and often doesn't match the subtitles. Luckily you can set the VA to Japanese, thus easing the cringe a little bit. Gameplay: (6/10) The gameplay is not great, but it's not bad either. Yes it's basic, but it was emulating that NES feel. So there is a lot of jumping and shooting and dashing. And the level of difficulty is very unforgiving. Like super unforgiving. To make things worse each level has a "Kill Screen" of sorts. Trust me, there is one area in each level that is super unforgiving for no real reason whatsoever. They just crank up the difficult and hope you make it out alive. Half the time I was expecting the ghost of Iwata to shine down and give me a White Tanooki suit and Winged Yoshi. Which brings me to my next point: If the game has a casual mode we complain, but if it's too difficult we also complain. So I wont hold the difficult against it. After all, the more I did and the more game overs I got the better I became. I often found myself speed running through most of the levels. Level Design: (5/10) Well despite the GCN era graphics, the levels were decent. Some had a few nice gimmicks to differentiate them from the others. But on average they were about the same. One stage in particular ended up being very fun and original. Maybe inafune should have spent less time on Mario Maker and more time on making good MN9 levels. Overall it seems to me that the difficulty is meant to replace Originality in Design. Characters: (7/10) Well this game has enough characters to make a decent Saturday Morning Cartoon. Yes I went there, AGAIN. Essentially you have two generic villains, two generic Nice guys, the Hero, the token female, and supporting characters/villains. Yup. You could squeeze out a good 15 episodes out of this. Music: (3/10) Eh.... I mean it's not terrible. Well I mean the Mighty Rap during the credits was terrible. But everything else is just okay. I wont praise it but i'm not gonna hate on it either. Bosses: (9/10) The boss Battles were way too difficult. And I know that there is supposed to be a Rock Paper Scissors effect. But I could rarely figure out which weapon to use. Not that it matters, as they all have a "Super Move" that they start using when they are at less than %50 health. FYI, the super move does more than %50 damage to you. So unless you are at full health, consider it a one hit kill. Oh and that Ice Boss... It seriosly made me cry like an anime fan on prom night. And no it's not cause of my lack of skills. It was just broken... Abilities: (7/10) You can jump, shoot, slide, and use powers of your defeated enemies. It is what it is. Basic Megaman mechanics. Nothing flashy, but they work. Replay Value: (5/10) Honestly this game is just too difficult for me to enjoy it. But ignoring the difficulty, the game has a lot of side content. Such as Online missions, break the targers, DLC Campaign, Racing, etc. So in theory, I might go back to this, if I ever get bored or something. Overall: (7.5/10) Despite everything, the game isn't bad. It's just not for me. The gameplay isn't doing anything wrong, it's just being too unforgiving. But if that sells games like 'Dark Souls' then it shouldn't be used as an attack on MN9. For all the flaws it may have, it still did what it claimed it would do. Granted it did so over a year later than promised, and with cheap graphics and lame Voice Acting. But it did so nonetheless. And at the end of the day IT'S BETTER THAN NOTHING. *drops the Mic* Edited by Greymon57, Sep 15 2016, 11:50 AM.

First review of yours I read Grey, just out of curiosity, and I noticed something that is a bit of a pet peeve of mine, is that your overall score does not match what should be your correct overall all score which is 5.625/10 or 5.6 out of 10. 3+6+5+7+3+9+7+5 = 45/8 = 5.625 or 5.6 . This is usually why I ignore people's overall scores, because they never match the ratings the person gives. Also another thing, some of your individual scores do not match up either with what you wrote, you say a boss is broken but still give it a 9 out of 10. as for Might No. 9, I had no invested interest in it, time and other games killed the intrest I had in it, and the surrounding controversy was just something to entertain myself with. clearly I can't rate this game since I haven't played it, but from what I have seen. Might No. Meh! seems to be a good summary of it. |

I understand what you are saying. But to me "Overall" does not mean "Average sum". Instead it means Score for the Complete Overall Experience. As I believe that a game is more than just the sum total of it's parts. But I get what you are saying. So maybe I should begin adding an "Average Score" Before giving my "Overall Score" then comparing both.
Good point. Despite the fact that two bosses are super unfair, and the rest have an OP Super Move, I do believe Bosses should be challenging. So I'm not hating on them too hard. That being said, I believe there should be a balance between Difficulty and Fun. But the bosses weren't so broken to the point I where I believe they did something terribly wrong. Just Difficult enough to make me play through a level several times before succeeding. Haha. Pretty much. Thanks for you input. I'll definitely take it into consideration. And sorry my scoring system annoyed you. I guess that's one of the reasons why many reviewers have opted out of a numbers system. But I still feel the numbers help illustrate a point, even if not the big picture. |

But the numbers don't mean anything if they do not match your overall score, the overall score is the sum of the other scores which were the numbers assigned to demonstrate your experience with the game. the Overall score is the sum of the sums. |
