I'm glad Metroid is alive, but I'm not fully sold on a Prime 4 quite yet. Series just sort of declined pretty fast for me after the first game. I'm also hearing rumors Rare might not be developing this, but rather a Japan dev.

Well I mean Rare hasn't really developed anything on Nintendo since Starfox Adventures :P .

But yeah, it's interesting that Retro isn't the one handling this. Wonder what the heck they've been up to since Tropical Freeze.

Yeah, what I'm most curious about with this is the developer. It sounds like Nintendo may have made a special team for this? Similar to what they did with Smash Bros? Very curious to learn more.

Regardless, it's great to see Metroid isn't dead.

Oops, messed up there. I wonder why they wouldn't make Retro develop it though? Surely they must have been up to something since Tropical Freeze.

Also it looks like Sakamoto has no involvement in development. Will be interesting to hear who is involved in this.

Wow really? That's crazy, after hearing he was working on Samus Returns I assumed he'd be working on Prime 4 too. Who in the world is working on this then I wonder. And what the heck is Retro doing? :P

Reggie on why they revealed Metroid Prime 4 early

Quote:

Coming from Reggie Fils-Aime...

“You know, for us, we believe that having hands-on opportunity married to an announcement is really the best way to do it, and so let’s take Super Mario Odyssey for example. We could have announced it months ago, but we weren’t yet ready, the team wasn’t ready, to show it and to let the consumer really understand visually how the hat mechanic works, how the capture mechanic comes into play. And so that’s how we think these through.

For certain games, games that will be in development for, let’s call it a decent amount of time, like Metroid Prime 4 -- also, given that it’s a franchise that we know people have been very eager to get some news -- that’s when, fine, we’ll share it. We’ll share it early. Others, we want to hold closer in and reveal it when the gameplay is going to be available. It literally is game by game, title by title, how we make that decision.”

Real reason: We didn't want Metroid fans to go crazy that we announced another 3DS Metroid game instead of Switch :P .

Lolol CJ :P

I like that logic though, can totally understand it. Prime 4 is a game that is a direct sequel that a lot of people wanted, you already have an idea of what it might be from just the title, etc. Mario Odyssey then you wouldn't know what to expect from just the title, so it makes more sense to announce them in separate ways.
