Snes Balance Romhack or PS1 (Vanilla); what is better overall?

I have never played an Ogre Battle game before except for MoTBQ but that was a long time ago on an emulator. And it was very brief. There is a romhack which rebalances the game so that all units remain useful. Is this necessary? I heard that some units become worthless toward the end of the game, especially large sized units.

It's not so much that they become worthless, rather it's that you have access to units which are very overpowered and will clean house through the rest of the game if you use them.

I prefer PS1 version because characters retain their palettes when changing classes, but if you want a more challenging experience with a wider variety of effective unit options, then go for SNES balance.
