![]() Much has changed in the centuries since the first floating city was used to escape from the mist. As technology advanced and improvements could be made, the city was expanded and remodeled until it adopted it's present form. With nearly a million humans living over the clouds, five cities are needed now, each one constructed atop a giant metallic platform designed to keep them afloat. The platforms are rounded, and many meters high, full with connections and machines that support the city on top. Its exterior is reinforced so that no damage can be done to the insides, and access is completely restricted except to the branch of the Crystalwing Army tasked with maintenance. Surrounding the city is what can only be described as a force field, the top half of a transparent sphere that completely covers the city and keeps the mist away. Made with the latest technology and regularly updated, the dome allows the exchange between air on the interior and exterior and keeps everything else away, including clouds and the mist, so the only thing that can go through it is clean wind. It's equipped with a system that provides different weathers to the cities according to the season, ranging from sunny, to rain, cloudy or even snowy. It's the most resistant structure known to man, and it's able to withstand even the attacks of the most powerful of dragons. Since space is precious, graveyards don't exist; humans and tame dragons that die are cremated, and the family can either keep the ashes or let them be scattered to the world below. There is only way to exit a city; to use the 2-kilometers-long tunnels that interconnect them. There are two types of tunnels: Type 1 (T1) is like the top half of a cylinder, with many floating platforms to carry passengers back and forth that exit and enter every ten minutes; Type 2 (T2) has a full cylindrical shape and can only be accessed by members of the Army. T2 has the largest diameter to allow for any kind of dragon to pass, and usually takes less time to travel since most dragons are faster than the public platforms. Zhey: The biggest one of the formal cities, with 20km of diameter, and also the one located at the center of them. It's used exclusively by the Crystalwing Army, containing all of the facilities pertaining to the military. At the center of the city lies the main and biggest building, the army's headquarters, which is divided into several wings. The central one is only accessible to the higher ranks, containing their offices and several storages for important or confidential documents. The wings to the right are for the middle and lower ranks, with a disposition much like the central one. To the left is the scientific wing, divided into sections depending on the projects currently being worked on. Aside from HQ, there are buildings to accommodate members of the army that decide to live within Zhey, as well as training grounds and facilities for Recruits and Soldiers. Zhey connects to all the other cities, but it only uses T2 tunnels to prevent civilians from entering. The basement of the central building is ample, with several floors, accessible only through the right wing, and acts as the only prison; criminals are incarcerated there so members of the Army can watch over them. The first few floors are for soft crimes like robbery or counterfeit, and the lower ones are for severe crimes like murders. Since both the present and past Crystal Generals don't believe in executions, criminals that have committed severe crimes are incarcerated for life. Heulong: The city every kid hates but loves. With a 12km diameter, this is where work facilities and schools are located. It makes up for it by also having malls and other places to have fun at. Basically, this is where people go when they're not at their houses, be it either for work or for fun. It's located to the north of Zhey, and besides the one tunnel leading to it from the aforementioned city, Heulong has T1 and T2's connecting it with Illyum and Lugvei. Illyum and Lugvei: With 18km diameter each, these are used for living purposes. Everyone aside of the army, and those within it that choose to do so, live within one of these two cities. Both of them are really similar, lined with houses, small shops, and mostly everything one would expect to find within a neighborhood, such as sports facilities, parks, etc. The crime rate in Heulong, Illyum and Lugvei tends to be relatively low, due to the lower and middle ranks of the army (and sometimes some higher ones) patrolling regularly with their dragons. Illyum is located at the northwest of Zhey, and Lugvei at the northeast, and besides the T2 that leads to Zhey, each one has T1 and T2 that leads to Heulong. That means that if a civilian wants to go from Illyum to Lugvei or the other way around, they need to pass through Heulong first. Unatra: Also called "greenhouse" by some. With a 30km diameter, this is the biggest city, although it's not considered a proper one. Here, various huge ecosystems are kept, all separated from one another, with their fauna and flora. All food supplies consumed by the other cities are collected from a special farming sector. Entry isn't allowed into the ecosystem sector, except for the people in charge of monitoring them; the only access is through a T2 tunnel that leads to Zhey. The weather of each sector is regulated separately, so the sectors mimic different ecosystems, from desert to rainforest to tundra. |
