Disabled transport access; Coach turning area

Simon has done excellent work toward getting awareness of the range into the world of shooters who will need consideration of regarding the facility.

If a party should plan to come they will probably have a large vehicle which will need to access the site to unload and load it will also need space to turn round.

Has a turning are been set aside for large vehicles?

Consider a 40+ seater coach, as a minimum it needs to enter into an area and be able to reverse back to then draw forward to face the other way.

We can not expect it to reverse out of the site onto the road.

Also consider HGVs during the construction phase. the contractor would probably like to lay the road bed at the commencement of construction to aid in maintaining dirt leaving the site to a minimum and hence reduce the cost penalty for making the highway muddy.

This whole subject needs very careful discussion and has certainly already been included in talks with the architect.
My personal view is that to consider a 40-seater coach is going over the top ! I would think it very unlikely that disabled folk would arrive in such a vehicle because of their ancillary equipment, and would be much more likely to come in a smaller adapted coach.
Anyway, all food for thought and inclusion.

Mog I agree a 40+ coach is probably not the preferred choice but plan for such a vehicle and you have the smaller ones covered.

I agree with Mog on this one - wheelchair-bound shooters will not be arriving in large coaches, but smaller, adapted ones to cater for their particular needs . Just a gentle reminder to all members of the Forum looking at this particular thread: not everyone who is disabled is in a wheelchair, nor do they necessarily even look disabled. There is plenty of literature on line about this subject, and I know that it will be studied in depth over the coming months as we begin to plan our new premises in greater detail.

Quite right Curley. We will have to consider so many different aspects.

Please note I did not metion anything about wheelchairs. I sought to make the point that sufficent space to turn larger vehicles on site is required from coaches to HGV's. If one considers the length of a coach then most vehicles will be safely turned and can exit the site in the forward direction on to the highway.
We may host a club that decides to arrive in a coach with no disabled members we may never but if the facility is there from the start we have it covered.

Could a larger coach simply not reverse down the main drive? OK so a coach coming from the Bideford end would need to drive past and turn a little further up the road or even at Hemmings Coaches just a mile further on, but I'm sure any coach driver worth his salt would be able to negotiate this maneuver.

Yes I agree its possible but is it practicable and safe to move onto the wrong side of the road then reverse; all whilst on a bend. We could use a couple of banksmen to aid safety but who covers the insurance and will it require them to be trained for the job.
If the grounds are going to be laid for vehicles from the outset then it is minimum cost to incorporate a turning area within the ground work.
I hope this will not result in us doing nothing and we end up with the same winter mud car parking situation as the current range.
