A lot of work for the films were done in Weta, they did all the costumes etc there, and did a lot of the armour and such as well..

If you'd like to read a little about Weta Workshops involvements in the films, GO HERE and find out more, there's a little history of the place there too...

Ahhh I did wonder about the special effects. The costumes for the Orc's in particular were amazing. They looked really gruesome!! :O

That chain mail was good as well. Must have been really heavy to wear.

It was all quite well done really.. I seem to remember they first started off in an old house, not very big either, I think around 1200 square feet of space and grew from there.. Some of their computer work is quite well done to apparently...

It must have cost a FORTUNE to make those films. Money well spent though. A lot of hard work was put into them.

I did see a figure somewhere, $280 million was one I saw, but I think that may have been one film.. remember hearing the studio's that backed Jackson invested every penny they had to make the first three films, and relied on profits from one to get through the next..

They had some really good costumes in the movie, I bet it took a lot of time to create them.

I think they were amazing and whoever did design them is very clever. The costumes and makeup for that film were outstanding.

I do remember hearing how much time and money it took to do all the computer stuff, I don't remember the numbers offhand, but there was several thousand hours getting all the stuff done..

All the scenery was as it is in the films, but bits like when Frodo finally got rid of the ring would've taken hours to get right...

As I've mentioned, Weta Workshops started off in a house and originally only had about 3 or 4 staff.. They're still based in the same area they started in, but with getting a number of films over the years, the staff has grown considerably and instead of being in a house, it's more like a factory now..

At last check there was at least a dozen staff just doing the computer animation work, then there's all the costumes and such they've made over the years as well..

From memory there was about 20 people working on the graphics and animation work alone for LOTR and countless staff working on costumes, armor, swords etc etc.. Even all the clothing was made locally, either byWeta staff or sub contractors taken on to help with everything..

That is interesting to learn and it sounds like it was costly.

After seeing the work done in the films, it was money well spent.. I think a lot of the costumes are now on display..
